New to Club Together and needing advice
Hi all 😊 We are about to start a new journey. COVID-19 has forced us to close our business, but made us realise what is and isn't important, soo we've decided to become house less and travel Europe with what little money we have until it runs out.
Our van is nearly set up, but we've come to the wifi bit, what do we need, can anyone advise on what would be the best for travelling Europe? I've looked at a few options and noticed motorhomewifi, not sure whether one of there set ups would be suitable. Any advice would be truly grateful. There are us two middle agers and our 14 Yr old daughter. We need to be able to stream movies, browse the Internet, Vlogging/blogging, to access learning, through laptops and mobiles.
If there is any other useful info regarding travelling Europe by experienced travellers, I would also be extremely grateful
Thanks, D

Hi, thank you for the advice, any is of great help, I will look into ASCI you mentioned. We are hoping to only use sites occasionally, we've kitted out the motorhome to be more or less self sufficient. But who knows until your travelling really. We're hoping to do at least 6 months around mainland Europe. Thanks again, D

Be careful of the new travel rules that may apply from 2021 after our temporary extension to existing regs finishes with the EU.
Also you'll need to keep an eye on whatever agreement, or not, is reached for health and remember a lot of motor insurers may not cover you for 6 months at a time.
Somebody did mention a website dedicated to yearly travelling in a motorhome but for the life of me I can't remember it. I daresay someone else will be along soon who does.

DebRuth, if Brexit really means Brexit from January 2021 you will be limited to 90 days in the Shengen zone in any period of 180 days unless you are able to obtain visas to stay longer. Consult your MP to ask whether UK government intends any last minute adjustment to this impending rule.

I don’t expect much from public or campsite wifi here or abroad and generally I’m not disappointed. It’s ok for occasional low demand needs. However, for the kind of stuff you’re describing, ideally you need something that connects you directly to the 3G or 4G(5G) network via mobile hotspot or, as David mentions, MiFi which uses a wifi signal to create a local network. Shop around to get the best data deal. I’m currently getting 10GB for £8pm with ID on a monthly rolling contract which suits my need, but you can also get 100GB for £15 or unlimited for £25. Something like Netflix at £5.99 pm is useful. When you’ve got a decent data connection you can download movies, TV series and watch at your leisure. Same is available from iPlayer but you might need a VPN to fool BBC that you’re in the UK otherwise it might block you.
I’ve met quite a few full-timers in various places around Europe, quite a few with young kids and they don’t tend to have any regrets.
+1 for Motorhome Fun forum, you’ll find much more info there than here.

As well as ACSI, download the Campercontact App. It has thousands of motorhome Aires/Stellplatz and Sostas listed. Good luck, I’m sure you will not be disappointed.

We use a Vodafone mobile WIFI unit and get 50GB a month for £25. Have had no issues in Spain, France and UK. You can get Vodafone unlimited data sim for £28 a month. We use it with a Smart TV for Netflix etc. Be aware charges may be different after we leave the EU.

I use giffgaff for my mobile phone - normally just PAYG as I'm a very light user. For trips to France I buy a 10GB goodybag which costs around £10 and use the mobile phone as a wifi hotspot. This works very well and is generally faster than campsite wifi.
As the previous poster said however no-one knows what roaming charges will be after the end of this year.

We have been using this web site for about 15 years now, which covers the whole of Europe has a downloadable POI for most GPS and a App and free. Not used an aires book for ten years so another saving its put together by motorhomers from France.
