Air awning pressure relief valves

Having just bought an Air Awning and surprised it does not have a over pressure relief valve.

The Ventura 3.8m I have is fitted with 4 x Leafield C7 type valves, as used in inflatable boats.

Now I am just testing the water here, I have machine shop CNC lathes available to make a pressure relief valve that would screw into one of the valves. Question is would anyone be interested in purchasing these once I have the working model tested?

Thanks in advance Mike Wroe

Sorry to burst your bubble however, why? I simply do not see the need. There have been very few incidents of exploding air frames such i would need evidence of the benefits to consider such an accessory.

I’m with FC and think if a need existed, the awning manufacturers would  have wasted no time in already having the items on sale alongside their other products.

I know you’re only testing the water so far, y644, but don’t forget you won’t be able to promote them on this forum if you go ahead.

They might catch on for some air awning owners,  .we have seen or  more heard tubes exploding

The camping /caravan  store near us have a whole display of replacement tubes and told us at the time about two years ago  ,,they were one of their best sellers for both tents and awnings

I think you will find that the Outdoor Revolution Air Awnings are already fitted with a relief valve.

So to copy a well known television phrase....” I will not be investing today so I am out.”

    yes, I would

I had the main horizontal tube on a Westfield Quest Omega blow in the south of france in august last year. it was at their recommended 5-6 psi when we put it up several days before. when it went,  we were out for the day and it was 38+ in the shade and the awning was in full sun. came back to find it blown, held up (somewhat) only by the guys.

It blew the tube , the blowout trashed the section of the awning around the area where it blew. westfield were very good and replaced the whole thing under warranty. but it detracted a lot from the rest of the holiday , so would love to protect against it for a few quid.

will only be in the UK this year for obvious reasons so not likely to get such extreme heat (apart from today!) but would like to be able to buy one. It doesn't seem to be made by any of the camping manufacturers as a spare, only as a fitted part in some brands awnings.

    feel free to PM me

If you are still active. I have just bought a vango air tent, and have been looking for a pressure relief valve like you mentioned and there’s nothing out there like it. Did you ever make one and get it to work? If you did I’m really keen to see what you did and how you did it. As I’ve seen and heard stories on blown bladders so wanted to try and prevent it if we plan to stay in Europe in our tent in hotter climates.

    kind regards
