Campsite lockdown in Spain

I find it hard to believe Brittany Ferries are continuing to sail to Spain the repatriate Spanish holidaymakers in the UK!
They left thousands of British people with no alternative but to drive through France to get home in March/April. They stopped their passenger services overnight when the lockdown occurred.

There is a travel ban in place for mainland Spain!
No there isn’t. Advice is simply that, not a ban. If you want to go there’s nothing to stop you. Yes, your travel insurance might be invalidated but UK citizens are entitled to medically necessary healthcare in 2020 and that includes chronic and pre-existing conditions which your travel insurance probably wouldn’t cover anyway.
Personal choice, take control and manage your own circumstances or simply follow everything the Government dreams up and then does a U turn a short-time afterwards.

I recall a similar CT thread about overseas travel in general just as Covid was starting to make itself felt. The thread started off on a positive note, all ok, slight risk etc but soon descended into cancellations, people stuck abroad, pleas for help and advice. The situation around Barcelona (for example) is bad, they are in a new lockdown. Our gov. has advised against all but essential travel to Spain.

Never had much time for Simon Calder, exists in the world of package holidays, which I can’t relate to, but one person’s idea of courting problems is another’s idea of adventure.
We can agree to disagree however, my point was that he was giving out information that is incorrect yet, where it suits people to accept it, they will be likely to do so.
The news since this morning has been all about the situation and its potential affects on people who are abroad or considering going.
We have no plans to do so but, if we did think about it then it would be in the knowledge that there are quite a few unknowns and none will likely be risk free.

My point was not so much to do with when we were all locked down but more about people from abroad to be quarantined when coming back into the country from Europe. There was a massive fuss about two plane loads of people from China going into quarantine, with as far as I know, no confirmed cases from either. But we didn't do that for people returning from Europe which was. by then, the centre of infections. Obviously all water under the bridge now but I suspect the Government are using that experience to guide them now. It may all turn out to be unnecessary but at this stage we don't know.

A view from Spain
12 days ago the infection rate in Spain was 1,500 nothing done but fast forward to last Thursday the infection rate was 975 and quarantine rules brought in and the infection rate in the UK was 850. The death rate for the week up to last Thursday Spain 8 UK 425, here in Spain they have a world beating track and trace system called PCR which they have had for 12 weeks now so they know which people are infected where they got it and what place to quarantine in the UK still waiting for their world beating system which was going to be oven ready for June 1st. When you have a decent system you will find the infections if you don't have a decent system you will never know. IMHO jut political posturing five months to late.
At the moment on a six week tour of Spain mainly in the Northern regions of Asturias and Cantabria and yes it is very quiet no French but they have had hardly any infections in fact out of the 17 regions of Spain 9 have fewer infections then the UK also the holiday regions of Valencia and Andalusia also have had fewer then the UK.

I’m struggling here, why Spain has opened up to UK holidaymakers so readily if(as your figures state) Spain has more to worry about from the very folk they are inviting in with said open arms🤷🏻♂️🤔

We have a booking for BF Portsmouth to Caen on 30th August.
Plans were to go down to the Benidorm area as we usually do every September for a month.
Not sure what's going to be happening now, fingers crossed it might resume as normal in Spain. If not I'm not sure I can spend a whole month in the South of France!

Just looked at the updates UK 745 confirmed cases, Spain 6381.
I'm sorry if anyone has planned a trip but I'd feel much the same about visitors coming here if we have a significant rise, it's not a good idea to travel if numbers are rising.
