    @Bikeit

    I'd suspect that the pads are not properly free to move in the caliper as the inner part of the disc is as you'd expect while the outer/pitted part is less worn.

    For info, my Volvo V90 rear pads needed replacing at 35000 miles, at which point the fronts were about 50-60% worn, eventually replaced at 42000. The dealer said that many newer cars wear the rears earlier because of the electronic parking brake.

    I’ve just had the same problem of rusty rear discs on a 18 plate Discovery Sports with less than 16k miles. It went in for its first 2 year service and I had to have the rear pads and discs replaced. I raised this with JLR but they just said it isn’t covered by the warranty. It looks to have been a problem for several years and appears to be hit and miss if the dealer replaces them under warranty. Someone said that you should say the rear brakes are making a noise and then it usually gets done. This is our sixth Land Rover and probably the last as I am disappointed that JLR have not dealt with this problem. Who can afford to have the discs and pads replaced at every 2 year service? I would recommend anyone with a Sports or Evoque (I believe they also have the same problem) to have the discs checked.

    if you were to believe Mercedes you'd be having new discs & pads every time you drove passed. A neighbour took is almost new S Class to the dealer for AN Other reason & was told he needed new discs & pads at the front. He declined to have them replaced as he was sure he'd not driven far enough to have worn them out. He took the car to an independent MB garage who confirmed there was nothing wrong with them. MB make a lot of money by playing the safety card  and I'm sure other dealers play the same game!

    Discs both front & rear rust over night on my MB .... but as above, I'd suggest the rust shown in the photos is due to pads sticking in the caliper.

    £43 for rear discs. Not a huge amount for three years. The biggest problem with rear brakes is they don'y get used enough, meaning you don't brake hard enough to make the brake valve send power to the rear so they rust and the rust wears the pads down. https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/land-rover-discovery/discovery-sport/parts/brakes/

    My Ssangyong Rexton goes through brakes quite a lot but I drive fast and I'm heavy on brakes but that has done 65,000 in just under three years with only an outside temperature sensor needed under warranty. I love this car and I would never have another Land Rover. Sad because I have owned them since I was 18-years-old.

    Too expensive, too unreliable, useless dealers.
