Cirencester Park access road

This will be my last update as we leave the site tomorrow. We’ve decided to escape a day early and wild camp for a night rather than battle against the tide of incoming campers on Silly Saturday.
The lopped off corners are now all prepared ready for the top layer of tarmac. Three of the lay-bys have been extended in this way while one of them remains in its original form, albeit with the rocks rather more embedded into the earth bank. The rocks either side of this lay-by are still pretty close to the carriageway.
On Saturday, it is planned to have a warden stationed at each end of the access road, armed with walkie-talkies to direct the flow of traffic. There will be 25 vans arriving each hour from 9am. Good luck to all who venture here!

I just wonder what would have happened if it had not been highlighted on here by moulesy and on FB. Hope they at HO have said thanks to you, M.

There is always a lot of "noise" on forums. Whether in this case it was instrumental in getting anything done is difficult to say. Perhaps those people that took the trouble to contact the College may have got them to realise there were difficulties that they didn't appreciate. However the site staff would have been monitoring what was going on and would have, no doubt, alerted their Regional Manager and that may well have set the ball rolling rather anything said on here? I am sure Rowena relayed to the site team the concerns expressed here but by then I would imagine the Club were already engaged in finding a solution?

I think that a number of members saying that they would no longer use the site might have been taken as more than noise,

I would have expected the clubs engineers to have done that at the planning stage with a back up objection to the authority wouldn't you?

You mean there are other caravan/MH forums.....shock horror!
I do wonder why, if that's the case, it wasn't brought to the notice of CT members on the premium Caravan Club forum.

I'm not sure yesterday would have been a fair test if it was marshalled, as stated. I'll be more interested to hear after a normal Friday. However, until the college starts back in September, with the added hazard of parked cars near the entrance, we won't really know.

Further to my previous post I just wanted to update you from the Club on progress to the access road at Cirencester Park.
The work on the road has now been completed and has included removing some boulders and replacing with timber posts, pushing some boulders further back off the road, widening the first bend on the road and lengthening and opening up the passing bays to make access into and egress from the site easier.
HFN Landscapes, the contractor, has done a great job and really pulled out the stops to assist us in making these improvements in time for when the site reopened on Saturday.
We very much hope that the works will significantly improve accessing and exiting the site. I’ve added some further photos so you can see the work that has been carried out.

Content removed by Jill as website terribly slow - thought it wasn't going to display so reposted my comment.

Maybe the posts - which appear to have reflective markers on are to assist drivers in the dark as there's no other street lighting.

We arrived on Saturday. In terms of road width, there are no issues, provided nothing is coming from the opposite direction. The initial chicane provides the perfect blind spot though. There were wardens helping direction, presumably in contact with each other. Not sure how this will be practical in the future? The passing places looked a bit dubious.

From what I’ve seen so far I’m glad I cancelled my booking for September, I’ll reserve judgment on whether I do the same time for next years booking until the road gets back to normal use of the college being open and people going in and out at the same time.
