Caravan sites opening and safety measures feedback

I can only presume that the Club have decided on a maximum number of users in the loo blocks at any one time, and this is being managed by a band system, ie you have to have a band to go in, no bands left, wait your turn. How it’s being managed in practice remains a mystery, as no one has indicated if anyone is checking that no one enters loos without a band. The theory is ok, but like anything else, it relies upon folks doing the right thing, waiting in line, being well behaved and patient. Or having the staff to enforce it. In between usage, the bands are dunked into Milton fluid to ward off any virus germs.

There was a post that mentioned that a warden had found more than the permitted number in a toilet block during his rounds, so some people are ignoring the instructions already. The wardens are obviously not standing at the toilet door checking how many to in or out and are relying on members to do as directed and not enter it there are no bands in the recepticle.

The system just wont work. It relies too much on everybody doing as they are asked and that just doesn't happen these days. Unfortunately I can't think of a better system, other than something which is likely to involve spending money on it, therefore I think the best option would be to close all toilet blocks. Many sites operate quite successfully without them.

I am loving all the “this idea will work” stuff that’s happening at the moment, instils a lovely sense of normality back into life. Best so far has been the revelation that drunks are incapable of social distancing......😂
I am compiling a nice little list of quiet places for us to stay once things have settled down more.

I have read these posts over the years that regularly come up, they suggest LV’ers are generally disruptive, untrustworthy vandals with an infantile streak🤷🏻♂️.

Not to open individual cubicles David. There is usually a small slot in the middle of the disk that shows whether vacant or engaged. In fact at Ferry Meadows last year a less able chap had somehow got into a position where he couldn't access the door mechanism and was effectively stuck. He asked for help as I walked into the block. I think that it was probably a sixpence piece that I used to unlock it for him.

That’s exactly how it should work TDA, number of bands = number of people allowed in at anyone time. I’m sure some don’t ‘obey’ though just like some don’t follow social distancing etc etc but most will.
Site here is almost full with only a couple of empty pitches and have seen very few doing the morning ‘run to the block in your dressing gown’.
Terrible weather so it feels just like normal here and our evening entertainment was watching the guy opposite trying to light his bbq in a gale - it kept blowing over. I didn’t realise how much I missed camping until then.

Before anyone comments, yes I am in the vulnerable group, due to age and health. I suppose it is different for younger people who may be prepared to take more risks, but after seeing our son, 40, very fit and healthy go almost the way of Boris when catching Covid I know they can also suffer. One of the last places I would be is in a steamy shower block, sharing showers, toilets and air with strangers! Especially on a site with kids using those facilities. Do they understand about arm bands when out playing and desperate for the loo? The site where our static van is situated are accepting touring vans but have closed all the facilities, concerned for their cleaners and their guests. They have lowered their fees accordingly. So the CAMC is trying to do this with wrist bands. Why not just close the facilities and look after their wardens? But of course they may have to lower the fees, I doubt anyone at Head Office is having to deal with the problem, or clean the toilet block!

For how long? We have been repeatedly told this is not going to go away anytime soon. Give folks the choice, it's not compulsory to use them. At least having them open might relive pressure on the CDP points. Some sites seem to have very few of those. Possibly because they have facilities blocks.

Concerned for their guests or not interested in attempting to accommodate the guests that have no toilet/shower facilities. I have all I need in mine but I love choice, and if this drags on for many months as it looks like it will then I will visit those sites that give me the choice. I may or may not use them but I can understand where you are coming from with your static and self contained facilities.

For this season at least. If I remember rightly the CAMC were one of the last to close at the beginning of this pandemic, so their track record isn't perfect. If people choose to use the facilities on offer, catch something and then spread it on to the local community where they are visiting, It's not just them that will be affected. Most touring vans have full facilities, at least for the rest of this season IMO it is a selfish business who allows the public to share this type of facility and possibly spread this disease further.

Thank you. I think I understand now. A bit sceptical it will work - not surprised people have forgotton to put band back - which wil then lead to people just using the block any way.
Ah hum! No perfect system I guess. I was just curious - we usually use all our own facilities, even if happen to be on a full facilities Club site (which isnt that often)

You are wrong with closing sites as the majority of other companies close at the same time
Can you also advise how many of the other sites in the South West have not opened their faciltiy blocks? as they outnumber club site by quite a margin

I worked in the Leisure Industry. Tally systems are common for swimming pools, you are only allowed a finite number of swimmers to lifeguard ratio. And of course by changing the colour of tallies used, you can see who shouldn’t be in there once sessions change. It relies upon vigilant staffing of course, and even then isn’t fool proof, Joe Public will invent wonderful ways of circumnavigating systems!😁 It has to be staffed and challenged politely though, otherwise HSE will shut down a whole centre and carry out an investigation if there’s a serious incident.
Hopefully, whatever Club has put in place will work. I suspect most folks will be using their onboard facilities, and those that aren’t/can’t will take their own precautions.

I do have to agree, the competion, C&CC) if that's the right term, are not opening their toilet blocks and having been looking for alternative sites given so many of our sites are fully booked, the majority of the listed sites are not opening toilet and facility blocks. Very few if any carvans/ motor homes do not have adequate showers and toilet facilities and can quite easly be enitrely self sufficient. Club members might be better served by the club moving to all fully serviced pitches with chemical disposal points on a ratio on 1 per six pitches

frabro, the statements below, that I've just cut and pasted from their website, would suggest they are opening facility blocks, at least at some sites. However, with decreased occupancy.
Our pitches have six-metre spacing and we’ll reduce the number of people on our Club Sites with facility blocks, so we can manage demand and queues.
There will be enhanced cleaning throughout our campsites, including high-contact areas. Where facility blocks are open, enhanced cleaning rotas will be in effect. We’re planning two deep cleans a day and four additional cleans. Please look for the signs outside shower and toilet blocks for cleaning times.
On sites where facility blocks are open, please be prepared to wait sensibly and follow guidance on the maximum number of people that should be inside at any one time. Floor markings will indicate the distance between campers and there will be marked spacing between cubicles and washing up spaces.
Please bear in mind that queuing times may be a little longer; we appreciate your patience and understanding.
