Caravan sites opening and safety measures feedback

For anyone interested here’s our experience of arrival at Burrs Country Park site this afternoon.
Sign up at the barrier asking you to phone to check in and pay by credit card but then we were told to go into the office.
Hand sanitiser on the wall outside office and full height screen at the desk.
I was using vouchers and was asked to hold them up one at a time near the screen so value could be checked then tear in two and drop into a waste paper bin. Was paying the balance (£2.80) in cash and was asked to drop coins into a dish of fluid/disinfectant. Went back to notify pitch number and was handed the key (around the side of the screen because there’s no gap at the bottom) and told it had been disinfected.
Toilets limited to 2 people at a time and there’s a little clear plastic bucket on the wall outside filled with Milton fluid which has 2 rubber bands in (like those used at swimming pools). Wardens said most people were using their own facilities.
They had around 100 arrivals yesterday, was busy but went well but when they checked the toilet block this morning there were more than 2 people in and obviously some had ignored the band system.
Although the web page says the shop is closed it isn’t and they have a limited supply of ‘essentials’. Book exchange and a information rooms closed.
The Brown Cow at the side of the site is open and they have rearranged the picnic tables in the large beer garden and have a very big awning too. Tables in the pub are for pre-booked meals only and no customers allowed for ‘drinks only’ until after food service is over. Pub closes at 9pm..
Not sure what other sanitisers they have as we only arrived 2 hours ago. Will check when we take the dog out this afternoon.10 -
Thank you for this AnneB. Very useful information.

Thanks Ann great to hear it seems to be working as far as the site can do , for those who understand what is needed
As posted it is it seems those who think it does not apply to or effect them that makes it more dangerous for the majority

We've got the cash to walk out and buy a new van today, but at our age we wouldn't get much mileage out of it, nor many showers
I'm in the same position Chas but you cannot take it with you so I am looking at down sizing in the next couple of years if I am still around.
Ooops drifting off topic again! Great post Ann.

Good post. It's interesting to hear from people on site

The Marketing Persons in the chemical depts of the likes of Unilever ,have done a great job of "convincing" the younger generations of us that unless a shower is taken every day they may not be socially accepted ,to the detriment of washing all the body fats and antibodies ,that in the past kept us fitter it seems than today
which is great for their bank balance
With the post from Ann staying at Burrs ,it has made us have a serious rethink on whether we being in the vunerable group ,now maybe not bother with this year risking using our C/van soon As several of our friends will not now be having a meet up with us after that other deleated post we may just not do our tour which included Burrs ,will see we have untill 72hrs before to cancel sites

OH! thought you might have been one of the self appointed marshalls guiding people in, after putting up your "Motor Home Using this pitch" and spread out the EHU
But on a more serious note, i suspect sites are going to have a greater occupancy towards the end of July/August, in our area some of the schools are quite full but they will start hols end of July. I also think that as time goes by people will become more complacent, and that will lead to more people not doing what we expect them to do, especially after a few beers round the BBQ as could be seen last night in some parts of the country, and IMO people need to be more aware not less aware on caravan sites.. Commercial site quite close , no facilities, except EHU, metered at extra cost, was quite empty when i passed yesterday.

I’m ‘vulnerable’ too being over 70 with a heart condition so will be using our facilities where possible and having what my mother called a ‘good wash’. I don’t feel it’s anymore risk than being at home, maybe even less so, but I understand not everyone will feel the same.

Sounds as though the 'band' system isn't working too well. It does sound a bit disgusting, dipping your hand into a bucket of 'nappysan'.
Can I suggest an alternative? Issue each pitch with a numbered plaque; have a row of hooks corresponding to the number allowed in; if there's a vacancy, place your plaque on the unoccupied hook and then enter; retrieve your hook on leaving.
The plaques could be cleaned with a wipe of bleach before reissue.

Thanks for the interesting stuff you have posted Ian.
Please be a tad more understanding of those who have chosen to wait a bit though. I have a Mum who needs care, and if I get out and about more amongst lots of other folks, it heightens the risk for her. I have an OH who is in the shielding group and I am doing all the shopping etc.... to minimise his risk. I also have a best friend who has just commenced lifelong kidney dialysis this last week, so at severe risk. I value my family and friends first at this moment in time, certainly above my own gratification. So your sweeping statement about delicate disposition, tiny chance of catching this, arbitrary age is a touch insensitive and uncalled for. As you say, the choice is mine. I am happy for those that are out there, but mindful of those who have responsibilities to others as well.

Thanks TDA. Both clubs have asked people to use their own facilities if possible so I think the delicate disposition bit might be more to do with the person who made the remarks. It's all an unknown, so avoid spreading the virus in communal facilities if you can and keep others safe as well.

Nicely put brue, much more delicate than my attempt, but the sentiment is the same I feel.

I'd be interested to hear from the club the drop out rate this summer from bookings made and those that are canceled or no shows. I had thought perhaps to spend three weeeks in September starting at a CL in Lochearnhead , then up to Bunreee near Fort William and then up the nortrh east coast at Brora . The Bunree site has no availability in July or Auigust and only two or three odd days in September. It really does show the folly of our current booking system as I suspect many of these bookings will never materialise as they've made on spec and other's like myself are blocked from making rock solid bookings

I thank you for the informative part of your post, Ian.

I wonder what rubber bands Club are using are made from? There are quite a few folks out there with latex allergies, and I know our RA at work saw us move away from wristbands for swimmers because of this. We have a neighbour who goes into anaphylactic shock if she touches anything latex. Found her crawling to our door one morning, after picking up post. It had had a rubber band round it prior to being posted, that’s all it took for her........
Minefield for Club, trying to get things in place....
