    It is not dificult and my OH does not drive ,we always allow more time as not like those with the Cummings outlook we do take a break after about two hours driving and as i have got older am starting to want it,    with the what seems others need to be there yesterday

    Never failed either here or over there. Long journeys over there done on Sundays.  On holiday so time to kill not get killed by time

    The M5 traffic cameras seem to show good traffic flow, Exeter looks busier as it's a junction to various areas A good thing that site arrivals have been staggered. It sounds as though camp sites have had plenty of bookings but not totally overwhelmed but hotels etc aren't doing quite as well.

    Like I say the sat nav s not set up accurately then or it is a very poor one. Mine displays ETA even if I have the vehicle/road speeds set wrongly. I can therefore slow down or pull into a layby to ensure I arrive as required or even speed up to a certain degree. Even without a sat nav I have a very good idea of my average speed on a journey and a quick calculation will give me my ETA as well as miles from destination as indicated on a signpost.

    In this day and age there are no excuses for ariving early.

    Yes, I can usually do the same. I would not like to predict journey times to South Coast today though, and especially with a 12 O'clock arrival time for example. Would anybody? Nor would I be confident of finding a layby etc near the destination

    That's obviously what those who arrived early have done. Provided the ones waiting have the first slots and there is room to park, no problem.

    Yes I know but some poor chap must have a 12 O'Clock arrival. They should hit plenty of traffic and I suspect have problems finding somewhere to wait near their destination. Thay is why I said especially a 12 O'clock arrival as an example

    If a deliberate act I would agree, as regards arriving at club sites, but otherwise I think we can all see that there may be reasons this happens.

    A look at all the posts about getting on an early tunnel crossing, where folks may have allowed for the usual M25 chaos,would suggest its not that rare-it just doesn't seem to happen to me.

    A family from Peterborough that have arrived on a site in Cornwall were interviewed on Sky this morning, the abuse they are getting on-line is beyond belief, an absolute tirade on anti-caravaner bile. I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

    I do agree with you ,it does not matter what time a sat nav "calculates"an arrival time,ours notes holdups on a journey but will then recalculate if any  have cleared or others have occured

    There has been a lot of media hype about holidays which in some respects are earlier than the usual school holidays in the south. I expect they'll be interviewing all and sundry today but I doubt whether the world has gone on holiday just now. many can't go and many are being cautious.

    For someone to arrive 3+ hours early surely has to be more than simple miscalculation. It's deliberate. Anyone getting it wrong by that amount would park up and wait somewhere unless their intention was to be first at the gate. And, yes, there are places to wait this side of the Tamar but a few miles from the site.

    Since I started to keep records just 20 years ago I have towed 110k miles and I am still not as perfect as many posters here who never miscalculate an arrival time
     

    I am usually pretty good in UK. 5 mins early on occasion or more likely 15 mins after earliest arrival.

    I goofed up a couple of years ago travelling west from previous site headed for Tredegar House site. For some reason I put in Tredegar into the satnav and forgot to choose campsites and Tredegar House. Looking at satnav I was running 10 mins early. Not a problem, traffic quiet and 30 miles to loose a little time. Then as I passed the roundabout near Tredegar house I realised my school boy error. 45 mins early. Plenty of room near site if necessary on a wide driveway. Strolled to office and apologised for being so early. I was able to book in and proceed.

    We departed the ferry in Poole at about 7:30am, booked into Cirencester Park (12 noon arrival before the rocks) Its just over a 2 hour journey. So an hour at Sutton Scottney and again at Dobbies outside Cirencester, meant we didn't arrive before time. If we still had the caravan we would have stoped for another hour on a separate Motorway services, rather than Dobbies. It's not that difficult to plan journeys accordingly.

    Most inbuilt sat nav speeds cannot be altered ,so the journey time is calculated on a solo car travelling at road speeds 

    We also have a Garmin LV sat nav that is supposed to give more info ,but is not much better except it keeps to towing speed limits with its calculations,but it relies on regular updates,as it at times will show a speed limit for long term roadworks that have finshed

    A lot of caravan sites look quiet in August too. After this initial rush I'm wondering if holidays are a priority for many this year?

    I cannot adjust my travel speed in our Tom Tom. On normal single carriageway roads not a problem as we will be going with the flow. If we have a fair bit of motorway I just add 20 minutes for every 100 motorway miles. Usually not far off
