Yes and if I am Honest in the 1970’s I used to drive a 32 ton artic down worse roads and tracks than this.

I dare say if you clipped a rock though, the rock would have come off worse. It wouldn't take much of a contact with the back end of a caravan or MH to do £1000 worth of damage.

I’m guessing the artic was built of stronger stuff than an LV and that it wasn’t your problem to sort out if it sustained damage.

And the bad news, Dave,  is that you can't even buy one of your beloved pasties at the end of this lane!  wink

It would have been classed as bad driving if we hit the rock with our wheels and moved it..

As you are from Notts you might remember the days when they had collieries. We used to pick coal up at those collieries and have to reverse under hoppers above rail track when you reached the steel stanchions holding  the hoppers you had to pull the rear view mirrors in because the gap was that tight. If you hit the stanchions they would make a mess of your wagon, so we learnt to be carefull.

If you damaged the wagon it was your problem. The boss would sack you.

Things are starting to happen. Not only has there been ‘marking out’ but also some excavations!

Some of the lay-bys are being extended, with corners being lopped off to make access to them easier. The blind bend is being made gentler, but will still be pretty blind. A lot of the rocks have been pushed about 6 inches further from the carriageway.

Unfortunately it will end up looking like a botch up. A nice machine laid tarmac roadway with hand laid add-ons.  frown

If the work is being done by the clubs contractor from Pershore it will not be done without the correct equipmentwink

As a retired highway engineer I can state that, if done properly it will be fine. I know how I would do it.

More to the point if they are only lengthening  the laybyes it will still be tight if a caravan and MH have to pass. Road is 3 metres, laybyes supposedly 2 metres. Plus a little wriggle room by moving the rocks back. It should at least be possible though, which wasn't the case before.

There was plenty of space to pass in most areas on the old road especially where the semi derelict building is /was   and as the road surface was poor it also kept the speed down for most drivers   which will not be so on a nice flat surfaced roadsurprised

Thanks for taking the time to take the photos and share on here, that also goes for your previous efforts. Does make the debate a bit more informed.

There is an easy answer to this , when you arrive at one end of the road ,just get your other half to run to the other end of the road and lay down , thus stopping any traffic from driving down , then they could text to say it’s ok to drive down , just remember to stop before running other half over surprised

According to Google it is 0.23 of a mile. OH isn't that good at sprinting, so could take a while.😀

Yes, I was similarly planning to send my own personal traffic signaler to the other end.  Hopefully it won't be needed.

Trouble is it would not work very well if more than one LV turned up. Once the college returns, the initial section of road is used for parking by the students and easily blocked. Therefore anything trying to exit in the 5 minutes it takes your OH to walk down is going to form a blockage.

Hopefully the students won't be allowed to park there, but the college have been trying to stop them for years without success. Then of course at certain times of the year there is the ice cream van, when the students are exiting. All adds to the fun.😂

There is an even simpler answer - just don't go.

We particularly like the site and its position. Hence my annoyance at the complete mess the club have made of this. Sensible negotiation and perhaps an injection of cash from club, tennis and cricket clubs could have improved matters over what was there before. As it is, we are likely to end up with a poor compromise at best.

I wonder if the club will update us during the coming week? Not sure what just flew over the house but it had a curly tail and squealed as it flew over

Steady progress is being made. Further excavations today to lop corners and prepare surfaces for tarmac. Wooden posts have appeared in a couple of the lay-bys - not too sure why.

Thanks again for the photographs. Perhaps the wooden post are there to prevent people going off tarmac, in the same way as the boulders were intended to do, but likely to cause less damage if you caught one with your unit?

The posts appear reasonably level with each other , I suspect that some kind of retaining fence will be installed, as the earth bank does appear steep and not too stable.
