Booking Fairness... Time for a Rethink??

Always room left for that and for people with prams and wheel chairs to pass without having to go into the road. If you ever walk past it you will know. If we all park 4 wheels on the road then we can only use one side of the road for parking. There is no mini bus there since furlough.

I see you've changed your tune, CC, as in an earlier post you were denying the fact that there were members who booked pitches with the intention of subsequently cancelling them. You can't have it both ways, either there are or there are not any who do.

sorry but you're completely wrong there, I did not deny any such thing. I'll give you a benefit of doubt and say you didn't remember correctly and I'll repost what I wrote:
What is wrong with making multiple bookings?
Who has bragged they got in first and how do they know?
And again who has said they intend to cancel?
and more on page 8. Up to that point no one had said they booked and intend to cancel which was my reply to who ever said they did. No denying just asking who?
Unless you're talking of another post which I can't remember? I did say I agreed with JK about it being a myth, was that it?

I have no problem with people booking ahead but do feel that the advance booking of weekends only should be allowed perhaps only a month or so in advance. It seems every time I try to book a week even many months ahead site comes up unavailable when i look at occupancy its just friday and saturday that are full. And if nothing has changed since my parents were club wardens they had plenty of no shows every weekend which could have been used for someone wanting more than just friday saturday.

No shows get warnings and their future in the club is put in jeopardy these days, Stuart. It was thought the taking of deposits encouraged no shows as in "I've lost the money anyway so why should I bother ringing to tell them I won’t be there?".
As for your idea about booking weekends, have you considered the scenario of someone booking a 5 night stay on a site and then later amending it to just 2 nights, ie Friday and Saturday, or have you thought about people booking a touring holiday of 1,2, 3 night stays several months ahead but, oh dear, they can’t book a stay of just Friday & Saturday as part of that tour? There’s no answer other than first come, first served.

"What is stopping you from booking a number of 2 week slots a year in advance well before you know your holiday dates? When the dates become known cancel the ones you cannot use. As long as you don't cancel these spare dates 72 hrs before arrival ( still actually just within the rules) I cannot actually see the problem."
Absolutely nothing, that's the issue.
Its within the rules so its OK.
To many this a farcical way to run a leisure booking process, possibly unique.
To answer the question directly, it blocks those dates for others who have limited leisure time and restricts a large number of members from using the club sites when they want to.
I understand it suits a large number of members who act within the rules so thats OK then.

Stuart, an excellent point, well made, although I think nothing has probably changed since you grandparents day.
Just book everything you fancy as soon as the dates are released and cancel what you dont want. Its perfectly acceptable to do this, you then become a member who blocks a large number of available weeks that you do dont intend to use but this is OK if you get the site you want. Its the rules.
Some may consider this a selfish act in what is a club, but it is accepted that you can do this, many do, with a clear conscience.

I disagree and say Stuart's point is far from excellent for the reasons I stated above.
Also, two of us have pointed out that things have indeed changed with regard to no shows.

I think your suggestion would just complicate things. Don't forget some of those weekend booking will be taken by people who have booked a weeks holiday, or 4/5 days which happen to stretch over a weekend. I am not suggesting that a fair proportion of the bookings will not be weekenders but quite a few will be for longer bookings. People often go to a site for a weekend to attend a particular event, country show, air show, wedding etc. I think they would be upset it they had to take their chance so close to the event. Some of course would just book a week and then amend their booking a week before arrival!!!

Here's a radical thought. What about "no advance bookings" at all? Just a phone call to book a pitch the night before.
