Welsh holidays from 6 July - no caravanning...
As the title says, just seen the headline - no details of what conditions will apply to camping and caravan sites or when they can take bookings......seems odd that static caravans/holiday homes can be used but not caravans.... does anyone in power anywhere go caravaning or camping?!

Drakeford has just said caravan parks can open on 6th but then said something about the 13th and only if self contained accommodation, so does that mean sites could open if toilet blocks remain closed ? - what a mess

Not what I read from a few Welsh news agencies.
'on 9 July, the Welsh Government will consider a range of specific options for opening:
Self-contained holiday accommodation;
Personal care services, such as hairdressing and beauty, by appointment.
Discussions will also be held with the hospitality sector about the potential phased reopening of pubs, cafes and restaurants while maintaining strict social distancing.
The First Minister added: “I know the wider tourism industry is keen to reopen and to salvage some of this summer’s season. I am therefore signalling owners of self-contained accommodation should use the next three weeks to prepare to re-open, working with their local communities.'0 -
Wrong. The First Minister has NOT said caravan parks can open on 6th July. He announced the 5 mile restriction will be lifted on the 6th allowing people to visit all areas of Wales including tourist areas, national parks etc. He said certain holiday accommodation including caravan parks can start taking bookings from 13th July. These providers should use The next 3 weeks to prepare to open. Hospitality businesses can not open yet.

I think the interpretation of the news report that EasyT has offered is reasonable. Having seen other reports like WalesOnLine I am not convinced that all the news agencies are reporting in the same way. From the link above, I would assume that consideration for self-contained holiday accommodation will be given at a review on the 9th July. What the strict interpretation of self-contained accommodation will be and when any will be allowed to open is rather dependent on the Welsh assembly's view on the 9th.

Please listen to and respect the points being put forward by us here in Wales. Rest assured tourism including caravanning will restart here as soon as conditions are right. This will be done after proper discussions with provider's and local communities views respected. Having just viewed the BBC 1 o'clock news and the interview with a caravan park owner in the Lake District, who is unsure how to proceed following England's announcement of 4th July, it seems to me that this is another example of making a big statement then work out how to do it. That will not happen in Wales, we plan first then announce.

Motorhomes(not campervans) are,by design 'self contained' with onboard water and waste tanks and toilet/washing facilities, I take it that people aware of the technicalities are advising the Welsh Government ? Would hate to be stopped from getting away on an incorrect assumption.

Not at all. A statement was made by English government in time for businesses to have several weeks to carry out a risk assessment based on government guidelines. Wales have done largely the same.

The Welsh Government was specific in its recommendation. The transcript is given above. You will find that the large majority of us in Wales are happy with the way our Devolved Government has handled the situation. Yes slow, considered and gradual. You only have to see the other headlines of outbreaks now recorded in three food sites to see how fragile the recovery is. You dont have to come to Wales once the restrictions are lifted, wait until it is safe and you will be fully welcomed.

"You don't have to come to Wales once the restrictions are lifted, wait until it is safe and you will be fully welcomed."
It sounds to me Fisherman that you still don't want us to come, even when the restrictions are lifted. I think I might wait until you are happy for me to visit your lovely country again. Would you please post again when you think it's safe for us to visit, so that I will know I will be welcome..

I wonder if by self-contained they actually mean fully plumbed waste as in Blackwater as well, thus removing the need to have a area of shared facilities for the filling and emptying of all tanks-where people could Congregate.
Until there is firm conformation of requirements, we are really in the dark.

I am just being realistic. Until we are SURE this disease is on the wane. When facilities that tourists want ( walking/cycling/fishing/etc) are ready and open. When the Castles/ Heritage Railways etc are open. Then its the time to welcome ALL tourists back. We plan, put in place and open safely here. Some and its the same ones all the time just cant accept logic but try to twist it to something else. Have a nice day.

The welcome is possibly restricted to the hillside if I remember the song lyrics correctly.
