I would imagine all that the Club is interested in is how cancellations impact on occupancy. Would it be really relevant to spend time keeping track of people that say book a year ahead but cancel six months later? Even if the same person did it a dozen times in a year it would have little impact on the overall availability of pitches. I can perhaps  see that some record of pitches which are cancelled within a month of site arrival might be interesting. Probably more useful information would be what proportion of cancellations are rebooked?

Thanks for a constructive reply David, unlike some others. If all the Club was interested in was the impact on occupancy then it would be a none starter because as I have already ponted out nearly all cancellations get filled even those made at short notice if the weather is fine. Any further action would have to aimed at steming complaints about the system which in my view only encourage speculative booking.

Over 100 posts on a subject that has been discussed on here in one form or another many, many times. Each time nothing changes and we all go round and round in circles. Whichever form bookings may take there will always be someone who wants to change things to suit themselves. In my opinion the system in place is the best and fairest to all members, you just need to be organised.

I know 2020 as been a really stressful strange year for most of us up to date, what with all the recent problems with the club website &  the forum pages seemingly having a mind of their own.

I stumbled onto this thread & thought the website is playing up again &  the date as reverted back to April the 1st.😁

    +1 fully agree.

And that's the thing the rules/procedures are fair because they apply to everyone.

But of course if anyone doesn't like the rules or procedures then don't join the club or use club sites, they are there clearly written and if one doesn't like them why pay to join? And even more puzzling to me is to complain and keep using them. Find a site, club where your preferences for despoits and giving a month's notice are catered for. There are many out there and as PD says there are always plenty of pitches.

Agree M. We seldom used to book Threeways (Marazion) back in the 1990’s for our annual 21 days down there when we were working, even in mid July you could just roll in and get what you wanted. But late 90’s, early 2000’s, it was fully ehu and it’s popularity increased, so we started to book as soon as we could, usually once my OH knew when his big leave dates were. We never ever had to cancel.

As we have got older, I have had to take on parental caring, so being able to cancel without losing money has been great. Despite this, when we have booked a Site, I have only had to cancel a booking once, my Dad was rushed into hospital with Sepsis. We never cancel due to weather. Nowadays we simply don’t book unless it’s for a special event. We have had more bookings cancelled by Club for various reasons than cancelling for personal reasons. We have also picked up quite a few late cancellations as well.

Its a good, generous system. Works for the majority. 👍😁

Don't do cancelling for the weather, well not unless it would be dangerous to travel. However, the ability to cancel without penalty if we don't feel safe to go away come September, was the reason I booked CAMC sites exclusively. September is a long time away, who knows what might happen re C19.

That is weather! If I posted to to include everything it would be too long, but yes I mean bad, dangerous to travel, snow, high winds, floods, hurricane or tornado. But not meaning the sun ain't shining.

No problem 'peedee', I respect your option not to do that but in all honesty I'm only interested in my own well being after a crap year so far.

Some of us are prepared to show a little more consideration for others. We have all had a crap year sorry if yours has been a little worst than most Metheven but its hardly an excuse to make a post which sounds as though you have made bookings with the deliberate intention of not taking them all up.

I have made the deliberate intention 'peedee', I have made two bookings into Scotland and two bookings quite close to home. If bad as in BAD weather is forecast in Scotland, or the Scotland gov has not opened up then I will take the sites close to home, again if the England gov permits.

I have hedged my bets in consideration to ourselves.

Don’t worry about us being inconsiderate PD, we are so unselfish we are no longer Members. We are quite happy to let anyone have a Club Site pitch anywhere. 😂

Do you really spend time analysing the late bookings pages? I am not sure whether to give respect, or suggest a lifestyle improvement course to be honest😁 (That’s a joke by the way)

We intend living dangerously for the near future. Looking to explore lots of nice small private sites, or those CLs with “small commercial site adjacent” All last minute, no booking in advance. That way we can dodge bad weather, dodge local lockdowns, dodge busy Sites, dodge lots of children, keep ourselves to ourselves.....👍

One’s mental well-being, and that of one’s spouse is absolutely tip top JV. In fact we are thriving, we got our heads around things very very early, pre lockdown, and despite our little family group having two shielders, we are thankfully worrying about nothing. We appreciate how lucky we are, and don’t find it necessary to dwell on trivia that we cannot control, although the odd rant at Governmental ineptitude is wonderfully cathartic.😁

We decided which direct debits and memberships we wanted to retain during this lockdown period, and which we didn’t. Some, such as Cadw, NT contacted us early and automatically extended our memberships. Others are very very short of funds, such as our local Wildlife Park, who have still to feed all their animals, and have dedicated staff actually sleeping in to keep the animals, and their families safe, so we didn’t go begging there to have our annual passes extended. Others are commercial enterprises, and pay decision making staff very very large salaries, and if we didn’t agree with some of the decisions, we walked for a period, rather than worry about not getting what we thought we might be entitled to. A payment break we can control. All stress removed😁

You can do as you want ..... so far it'll have no effect on me whatsoever as I'm not a club member & when/if I am, I try not to use club sites anyway.  We generally book a CL a week or so in advance.
