Booking Fairness... Time for a Rethink??

it had been a fine dry two weeks so certainly wasn't due to weather. Site had not long been open so unlikely to have been pitch repair. As for members leaving early, perhaps but that is really clutching at straws so the odds favour cancellations.

you are changing your goalposts all the time PD, you never mentioned any of that at all. You merely asked for possible reasons for LA other than cancellations, you never gave any parameters to possible reasons. In fact you never gave any indication of actually being on site in this thread when you conducted this 'research' Btw thanks for doing that on what you describe as a fine two week period. ,
I have often left a few days early so hardly clutching at straws at all.
Like TW alluded to, you don't want to consider any other reason than the one you have come to.Personally I'd rather believe JK a serving warden who actually deals with this matter than your speculation.

David you never mentioned being away now before
Shame that you can't or won't entertain touring in the UK.

This has been done to bits for years , I still cant understand , how as a club , members think its ok to book multiple bookings . Even bragging they got in first , with the intention of cancelling some . Is it me , but that is a very selfish way of going on in a club . Derek

What is wrong with making multiple bookings?
Who has bragged they got in first and how do they know?
And again who has said they intend to cancel?
I certainly make a number of booking across a year and a year in advance, I like going away and if I can get a booking for my chosen dates then good for me but how do I know I 'got in first' or got the second to last pitch, or why should I even wonder about that? Even if I have 'got in' before someone else why should that worry me? I have my booking and I fully intend to take it up.

Evening
I've said before, I would love to expel the myth. I could give pages of facts but alas I'm not yet ready for retirement
As long as folk are happy with their theories we can all have a healthy discussion.
It's beer o'clock now, cheers

That may be your opinion, JVB, but it certainly isn't for others who will agree with dc.
CC, as such avid reader of posts on CT as yourself, you must surely have seen that there are some who state that they will book pitches just to ensure that they might go, knowing full well that they can cancel with out penalty, but only as a back up in case the sites that they really want are unavoidable for some reason near to the time of their visit.

And long may it continue

When you consider the very few of the membership, who post on here, and the ones that do, some post just to get a "reaction" to their posts , i would as site will i am sure advise, be more likely to note that the majority of pitches that "appear" on late availability are nothing to do with late cancelations by members , but other reasons that are more site orientated reasons

Morning
I think you may find that this summer the majority of sites be they club or commercial will have all their "facilities" for young folk closed off.

I don't "know" but it seems more probable, I'm sure you would agree. I would imagine that those planning a trip at the literal "last minute" are fairly rare. A few days planning and preparation are more likely the norm.

Would it not be fairer to give each member, 3 or so advanced bookings for the year that could be booked up to a year ahead and then open up the rest of the pitches on a one month in advance rolling basis. This would also stop the very poor, yet common, behavior of blindly booking sites "just in case" then cancelling before the 72 hour deadline.
Limiting bookings for many of us would not work. In February I booked a 30 night trip from mid April and a 50 night trip from 6th June. This involved 16 sites of which 7 where CMC sites. Had I been restricted to 3 bookings the CMC would have lost 20 nights of my bookings. I suppose that this year they will have lost them anyway
