Masks i think are ok in confined spaces, especially at this time of year when people are suffering from hay fever and may sneeze inadvertently. My friend drives with a face mask when he is taking his mum  to doctors etc, she sits in back with mask on, and he wears one also, just as a precautionary measure.

It’s a pity more unfit joggers would wear face masks with all the snot and other liquids emanating from all facial orifices

The trouble is that you never know who has the virus, people can be asymptomatic but still be able to infect others. Had they in early March insisted on facemasks/coverings on public transport, especially in big cities there would have been less transmission and also less deaths. I appreciate hindsight is a wonderful thing and at that stage we had no real idea what was to hit us. Probably wearing a mask outside is somewhat OTT but when you are in close proximity to people there could be an advantage, even if its small. For some of us that is a precaution well worth taking. Others have to make their own decisions.

Talking of masks, we have just ordered some re usable ones from our favourite bike shop. Lots of different designs. I had chosen what I thought was an interesting one, Black with a zip. Then OH explained what a Gimp Mask was......so I changed my mind😲😂😂

I have to say I am really confused I heard in the Downing street briefing last week - a question was asked when could caravan and camp sites open and the answer was that they had not got a provisional date for this yet.
I have looked on the gov website and there is nothing and as far as I can see nothing has been said.

Is the opening of sites on 4th July just speculation? as outdoor areas of  pubs might be able to open from this date? I have heard nothing official - just stuff in the media hoping that they may be able to open as pubs are opening that date?

Can someone give any more concrete advice?

I bit the bullet and visited a well known shopping centre yesterday, I desperately needed some new walking shoes. There were not that many people shopping, several car parks were closed and entry was restricted to a few entrances.

A one way system was in operation and I was asked to sanitize my hands in the only shop I visited where I was the only customer.

About a third of people were wearing masks, I wore mine and was surprised by the number of older people not wearing them, it seems that they are being worn more by the younger generation.

The toilets were open but every other wash hand basin was hot being used, again I was the only person in there, I had been tasked with finding out about the toilets by my OH.

Some seats in the malls were marked not for sitting but others were in use.

I didn't stay longer than necessary, I got what I needed and the car had its first decent run for ages.

I view it like this AD-I think it can’t make me more likely to catch the virus🤷🏻‍♂️,  any nose & mouth covering will give me & others protection to a degree. As I breath out wearing the mask I feel my warm breath on my nose that suggests the mask material is not letting all my exhaled breath out so it is going to keep moisture out for sure👍🏻

We haven’t worn masks yet, at least not until today. OH had to have a scan at hospital, and it was compulsory to wear a mask throughout the visit. I had a text from our GP surgery last week, stating that a mask must be worn for all visits. So we are getting prepared. I bought a pack of 10 disposables, and later today ordered some washable biker type masks, which will be useful when in traffic out on our bikes.

I don’t see it as being something we will need to do with any frequency, as we don’t use public transport, have no intention of going shopping, and are perfectly happy when outdoors in not very busy areas. However, I am putting together a little “what if” emergency pack, of two masks, bottle of sanitiser, filters, PPE gloves into each vehicle. Just in case we break down anywhere.

Mask a must for Mum. A whole lot easier than reminding her every 5 minutes about the virus, don’t touch your face, etc... dementia can be such fun and games.....

Masks are going to be the next must have accessory. Colour co-ordinated, themed, designer related. Trump had the best one yet, a special just for Mr President!😂 Fun and games to be had going through customs at some point👍

We haven't worn masks yet, but they're at the ready - I have to go to our local surgery for a blood test next week and they've sent a very long text explaining exactly what's involved. Other than that we shan't be in any crowded places as far as I can see so we'll keep them handy but not use them unless instructed to.

Same as us M. OHs hospital experience excellent, mask on, turn up, straight in, scan and done. Took 10 minutes. Not allowed to have anyone else with you unless a carer.

OH had to wear a face mask for an appointment at our local surgery, with the rules on public transport etc. it got me thinking about the what if's

what happens in case of a breakdown if out in a vehicle and need recovery or there is an emergency where a train or bus is needed for onward travel, would you be refused the onward transport I wonder.

So we have now put a little pack of washable facemask hand sanitiser and disposable gloves together, small enough to fit in a handbag or pocket so we shouldn't be put in an awkward position should the unexpected happen.

We have masks and gloves in both vehicles just in case and usually have them about my person as well. You never know what might happen.

I hate wearing a mask but have been forced to in medical situations. I found it provided a certain amount of reassurance to find all those around me similarly adorned. I feel sorry for the medical staff having to endure wearing the PPE all the time.

I don’t have a problem wearing a mask if asked , but I read the other day that masks made from cotton were only 50% effective against spreading germs ,but if you used a layer of silk with the cotton it then became 90% effective, and it has to fit properly or germs can sneak out the sides , I think soon we may have to wear them outdoors all the time

I had an emergency operation and two follow up visits at the Liverpool Eye Hospital at the height of the pandemic. Whilst all those in the operating theatre wore the full PPE that was not the case in the waiting areas and especially the corridors. Usage in those areas by patients and NHS staff was probably around 50%.

That was then. Now it’s mandatory for staff, visitors and outpatients to wear them.

But it does seem strange that now the worst appears to be over, that the rules are more stringent

My wife just read on the internet that the Caravan & Motor Club site might not open on the 4th July and that the facilities, showers and toilet block will not be open.  Any news on this from a mod.

Hi, An emotive subject perhaps. We were due to travel to France 260620 in our caravan, along with relatives in their new Motor home.

Obviously this has been cancelled due to travel restrictions.

We had booked a non refundable return journey with Eurotunnel, but do not wish to go between whenever we can and next March when we paid for the tickets.

I have been battling with Eurotunnel for a refund of £412 for us and £204 pounds for our relatives, quoting advise from experts such as Martin Lewis, but they would not budge.

But then I found EU reg 32020H0648, which I quoted and guess what, instant refund in full for both parties.

We wear masks whenever we leave the house. Too many people not respecting 2 metres distance [walking whilst staring at phone, oblivious to surroundings], plus danger from joggers & cyclists. Too late after unexpected contact!

Wearing the mask minimises infection risk for other party, and if everyone uses a mask, the transmission rate should reduce. I read the Guardian report yesterday from the Italian pathologist who said he struggled to recognise the lungs of deceased patients because of the heavily fused material. We're borderline paranoid, but I quite like functioning lungs and other major organs. We follow Prof Devi Sridhar advice [Chair of Global Public Health, University of Edinburgh] to stay safe.

    But each to his own.

Masks on in indoor places, everywhere else is fine as we don't have crowded areas anywhere yet. Bit mean of Mrs WN to make me wear it in the house though.surprised

Ttda, thanks for your reply about hired cottages etc. First time I've had access to the thread for a week. Read an article in the i today solely about potential precautions that hiring companies might have to make to alleviate hirers concerns. Different bodies are recommending such things as deep cleans, duplicate sets of cutlery and crockery, duplicates of soft furnishings, asking customers to strip the bedding off and leave in washing machines when leaving, no welcome food or drink pack etc.

Mrs.WN wants to see recorded video of everything they do before even thinking of it. Either that or spend the first 3 hours scrubbing the place out. Not sure we want to spend a relaxing time decontaminating someone else's property.

OH went for her blood test this morning. She had to complete a short online questionnaire yesterday asking about whether she had high temperature etc and then told to turn up at the appointed time. She was met at inner door to surgery, given a mask and only had a few minutes wait before being seen by a fully decked out nurse who took blood sample and blood pressure. She could not have been in the surgery more than 10 minutes all told.
