One wonders what the response would be if they were threatened with legal action for unreasonably depriving an individual of their own goods.

I totally agree. Should there be any damage to our motorhome while not being checked on by staff as agreed because they have been furloughed, i will certainly be seeking legal advice..

Well I would say they would probably wheel out the big legal guns paid for of course by our membership fees and leave us to pay our own legal fees.
The interesting thing is I have additional legal protection insurance on my CMHC policy like many others.
I bet there is a clause preventing me taking legal action against the club though. 🤣🤣

The Club is hiding behind some poorly drafted Government legislation.. It is not currently offering accommodation where it has storage facilities because it has furloughed the staff. Therefore, it could easily argue that access to storage is allowed. The question for The Club AGM is: "Why did The Club furlough staff on those sites where there are storage facilities?", with a follow up of: "Having furloughed the staff, why did it not 'unfurlough' them following the PM's announcement on 10 May when the advice changed from Stay at Home to Stay Alert?". Like others, I am annoyed that I am unable to access my outfit in a storage area that generates approx £350,000 per annum.

Bearing in mind any action would involve a small claims action and your their costs would not be recoverable even if they win, which seems unlikely, using a major solicitor would be wildly uneconomical. Any solicitor would charge more per hour than you as a claimant would win assuming this lasts only until 1 July..
The club has deprived you of part of the service they contracted to supply, although as you could not use the unit the loss must be minimal. On the basis of advice given to those with statics and seasonal pitches, something is due back, so if the club delay allowing you in after 1 July they may be setting themselves up for a lot of very minor claims, with the administration problems and costs in addition to the claims. Up to then the figures would not be worth pursuing.
If any units are damaged because of the refusal then things could get difficult for the club.

I am now concerned about not being able to access my caravan on club site storage. I cancelled my planned repair in April, but as my approved repairer has re-opened I have rebooked in for mid July and understand that Club sites will begin re-opening from 1st July, but no info about which ones and when. Caravans will have been unattended and static for at least 6 months - mine since February - that is not good for batteries and tyres. We need access to Club site storage. In spite of sent emails, I have had no response apart from a belated acknowledgement. So far as I can see there are no email addresses on the Club website, to make further enquiries. Club response?

Addressing your concerns directly to Nick Lomas may be the best way but I fear you’ll be wasting your time and just get the standard waffle back, if anything.

As i and others have been unable to gain access to Club storage to check and maintain caravans, will the storage areas be opening before the sites opening date to enable essential safety preparation?
If not, there will be a lot of unsafe caravans on the road on the sites opening date
I also wonder if the Club's insurance will jndemnify me for damage caused by their refusal to allow access to the van

I don't use club storage but a small private site and have been able, had I wanted, to access my van subject to their conditions, and having requested all owners to only visit if necessary and then by appointment only.
I have done this once to allow a Dometic engineer to fit a new fridge light.
I can understand the frustration that some may feel but struggle to see what will lead to all these unsafe vans or damage caused by not accessing vans.
My van has its annual service, tomorrow as it happens, and I do the usual pre towing checks but, other than that, what am I not doing that might lead to all the issues being mentioned?

Apart from the possibility of a flat tyre I too can't see what issues or anything that could make a van unsafe by being in storage. My van sits for eight months in storage and only once in nine years I've had a problem and that was a flat tyre.
We have a van in storage here that hasn't been moved in four years, it's very green!

Our storage has allowed access throughout, so we have been able to check up on our MH and it also has solar panels to keep the batteries topped up, so even in a CAMC pound the tracker and alarm, both required by the insurance, not for discount purposes but to obtain it, would carry on regardless.
For those without solar top up in a club facility, their expensive MH could be technically uninsured. There is no hiding it, there would be a record of the tracker going down due to insufficient battery. The alarm and tracker would also so drain the cab battery that it could result in damage and require replacement.

As far as I know, all sites with storage that are opening this year will have from Monday a staff member to allow access. You just need to give 24 hours notice via a phone call / answer phone message.

Dear Storage Member,
I am delighted to get in touch with you today, to confirm we have now established a process for you to visit and check your outfit in storage (by appointment only).
The Club recently received a response to enquiries our Director General addressed to various Government ministers in May. This response clarified that we can now permit access to storage on caravan site premises, prior to the Club’s planned reopening date of 4th July. This change in access applies only for sites in England at this time - we are waiting on news for sites in Scotland and Wales.
We understand you will be keen to access your unit as quickly as possible. Managing this safely, for both members and staff, is our utmost priority. In order to comply with COVID secure guidelines, we will be offering access on an appointment only basis for the immediate future, with further details outlined below.
Appointments
Please only arrange to visit your outfit if you can undertake the journey to and from site within the same day. It remains Government policy that you must not stay overnight, away from your main residence (except for limited reasons). This is a condition of the Club being able to give access, prior to sites officially re-opening.
Please call the site from Monday 15th June to make your appointment, giving at least 24 hours’ notice of when you would like to visit. Please only call from this date. We know phone lines will be busy for the first few days of this process and we ask for your patience with our staff.
Please do not arrive at site unless you have an appointment - this could compromise safety for others and you will not be given access.
Appointments will be available generally between 9am-6pm, although exact times will vary from site to site
Appointments will be in 1 hour slots
Only 2 people will be able to attend per unit and the 2nd person will need to remain in your car when not working on your outfit.
Appointments will be available to check your outfit, re-charge batteries, carry out basic maintenance and remove your vehicle from site or bring it into the compound. Another appointment will need to be made if wishing to return your outfit prior to 6th July.
You can also arrange for a service engineer to meet you at your appointment time to carry out on site servicing.
Please note that you will have access to the storage compound only - all other facilities on site - including toilet blocks, waste and water service points will remain closed

Green Flag's expert technicians in attendance for the first two weeks after your compound opens, this will be subject to how many appointments there are on the day.
This support will be available to all members – not just Mayday customers – on a ‘non start support’ basis. This will mean support with battery, head light and break light failures.
Please note - in order to allow as many visits as possible in the first two weeks, caravan washes (where available) will remain closed until 6th July. These will then be available on an appointment only basis, made with site staff. No other washing of outfits will be permitted onsite, unless to ensure windows and mirrors are clear for safe driving and towing - you will need to bring a bottle of water with you for this purpose, water service points remain closed.
We would encourage members to arrange any necessary servicing offsite if possible. However, if this is an issue, please discuss when calling to make your appointment, and we may be able to make an area available to you. You will be responsible for meeting the service engineer at the site entrance, taking them to the outfit and escorting them back off site.
Please consider what kit you may need when coming to site; for example, jump leads, battery chargers and tyre pumps. Site Staff will not be able to loan any equipment.
I know this has been long awaited news and I would like to send my sincerest thanks for your patience and understanding during what has been a difficult and unforeseen impact on the Club’s ability to offer its usual high service levels.We thank you for your support with this new procedure and look forward to getting back to normal as soon as possible.

Well after leaving it week for any rush to die down we rang yesterday to make an appt. to go see an check the 'van.
White Water seem very well organised. Disinfected storage keys and plenty of hand sanitiser available.
Van is OK, battery ok, tyres OK. etc, etc.
Looking forward to our first trip on the 6th.!
