    Don't mention testing! wink

I've heard a bit more about testing straight from someone on the front line and I think I've got the picture now...the programme this morning confirms this!

Brue I'm sure but not certain that even on the day that had the highest testing number given by HMG over the 100,000 they (more or less) reckoned in the 50,000 🤔🤐. Hence my comment about listening to the recent ones.

I thought the expression was 'don't mention the war' but testing is bang up to date and in trend. Should I add a #? No idea where to add it though 🤣

Brue, it was interesting listening to the Welsh FM the other day. He specifically stated that local communities would be consulted before making any decision about relaxing rules/guidelines so at least they will have a voice. Not wishing to make this political but it would seem a sensible way to approach any lifting of travel restrictions.

I monitor it everyday. There has been a couple of new cases here in MK in the last couple of days and yesterday there was unfortunately another death but that was the first one for about ten days.

Agree there has only been an increase of 3 cases in the past week in MK but both Bedford and Luton have seen increase of 7 percent. It would seem the more modern complexes have had far less problems than the older urban areas. Peterborough has also had a very low number of cases.. Telford also seems to have done quite well.

I must admit to being a bit apprehensive about the reopening of shops etc. I fully understand the reasons but there are numerous people who live to shop and you can often see them wandering aimlessly from one shop to another.

Mrs WN, the food shopper, noticed it the other day in Tescos when she inadvisedly popped in for 1 item in an afternoon and shoppers were ignoring the one way system and just picking stuff up and replacing it. Once other non food shops open then the footfall in supermarkets will inevitably increase. A small M&S that we occasionally go to is in a shopping complex that also has cinemas, pubs and restaurants and cafes. At the moment it is very quiet as only M&S and Tesco are open but as soon as all shops open then people will wander into the supermarkets for a sandwich or a look at what's on offer etc. M&S were saying that they intend to open up their small cafe in the shop. It's always packed and I avoid it anyway but more people means more risk. We'll have to rethink our shopping strategy soon.

I actually went in our local Tesco this morning, about 7.45 am as there was hardly any cars in the car park and I hadn't been in for ages. Wanted to acclimatise myself a bit. About 12 people in all told. So it looks like a very early shop in future and avoid weekends.

Because I was locked out of the website partly due to my membership having just expired. I thought it made more sense to re-register as ED (again) rather than MM.

They tried employing a cleaners at Hillhead, but unless things have changed there  were more times that the site staff were also with them ,   as it was found to be not cost effective, for the lower standard that was employed, and there was not any sense of pride that is found when club staff carry out the work

We have rethought a great deal about how we shall go about living, holidaying, seeing loved ones. It won’t change a lot of things for us, we aren’t into shopping at all beyond bike shops and for plants. We shall stick to online buying for almost everything basic. We prefer visiting quiet, lonely places mainly, enjoying ruinous places rather than busy historic houses. Hopefully we shall get away later in year, when things have settled down more.

Caring for Mum is my main dilemma. In order to do that, I will have to limit who I see, and where I go. And where I take her. But hopefully, we might manage a nice cottage holiday somewhere, concentrate on scenery, a bit of beach.

OH has to have a scan next month in one of big Sheffield Hospitals. I am dreading it☹️ We don’t do cities.

Ttda, we've thought about hiring a cottage in a couple of months time to take MiL away. How are you going to go about ensuring the place has had a deep clean? Going to do it yourself or asking the owners/company for assurances, not that I would wholly trust them and still clean the thing myself. But, where do you call a halt to the cleaning? Take your own linen and towels etc.? Interested on your take on it.

Having worked in a company that decided to change from in house cleaning to contract cleaning I am inclined to agree with JVB. Whilst, at it's best, the contract cleaning might well be done to an acceptable level it was never as good as achieved by the in house cleaners. There was also greater flexibility which tends to go out of the window when you contract such services out. If the wardens have to spend more time supervising they may as well do the job themselves. Not sure that it is a wardens job to supervise others and if you have to bring in Club management it rather defeats the purpose. On larger sites it might be better to directly employ a cleaner/s as part of the warden team rather than use contractors. Alternatively bring in an extra warden couple for the peak season.

Lucky employer but as we have noticed apart from the long siestas there seems to be a diferent work ethic than in the UK when employing staff on minmum wage,as most if not all contractors do in this countries cleaning industry, and without any expences for travel ,to work for a couple of hours?,

And when i was working back in the 1990s before the minimum wage and WTD was introduced it was no better ,

And as for "many" companies they all normally rely on "casual labour" to fullfill their contracts which is very noticeable with diferent staff that are supplied, who need "supervision" when on site which if lucky,  at times may be a member (if availble?)of the contractors staff

I doubt there will be a cure but a vaccine is the most likely way of countering C19.

I dought the site staff who will have a direct imput, would accept any contract because it was the cheapest,,but as it is well known any company will say they will promise  allsorts to get contracts , as I would think you have found in your senior position before as me , retired earlywink

Wherenext, we are doing a lot of thinking. We have two shielders, one in each household, so we haven’t even achieved being in our respective homes together yet, let alone a holiday cottage. So it won’t be anything imminent for us, certainly not until daily case rate is much lower. At the moment we have got as far as thinking not too far away (so no overnight B&B stop.) Travel distance of around 3 hours would give us plenty to aim at, but I have to say there are places we have used before, with an excellent cleanliness record, that we will consider first. We have never been big users of cottage booking agencies, prefer to liaise direct with owners. We would liaise with the owners as much as possible, trust them to be honest with us about past visitors, in return giving our own health assurances. We would take cleaning stuff ourselves and do some of our own cleaning when we get there. We usually take two vehicles anyway, but if one of those was MH, then this would give us a mobile cafe, rest area and private loo for all of us. It’s also about what things we do as well when away. OH and I are keen outdoor types, walking, cycling, climbing round ruins can fill our day. But Mum and Sis are totally different, they like to browse nice shops, walk the streets of towns. Mum can only walk so far as well. So it's very much about what can we do and enjoy once we get away. We like to have lunch out, but that’s going to be risky,🤷‍♀️ We coped fine back in March up in Dales, took a picnic out, there were no cases recorded where we were staying so we did do a bit of shopping, visited one of two quiet museums, but only ate out once, after some research.

A lot to think about for us at the moment. 🤔😁

Rather liked this, sent to me by my son who runs a restaurant / bar.

The degree of social distancing is it going to be 1m or 2m is certainly high on his agenda at the moment.

Yesterday we cycled from our village into Hull using old rail track and cycle lanes, stopped off at the marina for an egg and egg and bacon sarnie. We then cycled into the centre and the shopping queues were enormous, scuffling by the entrances with no distancing. Just what is it that people are finding it so important that they feel the need to join the shopping stampede.

I'm an infrequent shopper but when in town like to browse and usually come out with nothing, I suppose my behaviour will now be frowned upon as taking much needed space.

I'll give it a miss for quite some time.

Its the Boris Bounce, he told us to get out there and shop until you drop to get the economy back on its feet, the fact that social distancing went out of the window as witnessed at the Nike shop is totally irrelevant. undecided

I think whatever the distance "social distancing" is set at it will be meaningless to some. There is a guy on our estate who buys and sells fishing tackle and I saw him yesterday looking in a boot of a car with the owner no more than two foot apart. No masks. We went to the garden centre for the first time yesterday, mainly people of our own age, hardly any spatial awareness of what was going on around them. Probably during the lockdown proper we didn't notice this as we rarely went out except for walks. In those immortal words of Kenneth Wolstenholme many think it's all over!!! For us I think it's going to be a long time before we are comfortable going to something like a pub. Not that the industry is waiting on us as we didn't do it a lot before!!!

I was out with my wife-portering/bell boy & chauffeur. It’s times like this I’m happy I have a pickup. She loved every second of it👍🏻😊. I even bought some kecks👍🏻. It wasn’t crazy at Kingswood Meth, big queues mind but quite civilised, social distancing but I only saw about a dozen wearing masks & gloves.

I too know a couple who manage an eatery/pub.Their main concern is opening at 2metres not being cost effective whereas 1metre they’ll just make a profit but will need to churn🤷🏻‍♂️. Whatever the Govt decisions will be-damned if they do/damned if they don’t.

Yeah it's not everywhere Rocky, we saw them outside Primark, just a mass of people, and even 'Shoezone' had queues🤷‍♂️ Shoes are handled frequently by many, I just don't know how that operates in a safe manner. I need more time to return to some kind of normality.

All those 2 metre signs and pavement stickers, will they black marker them to 1 metre or pay out again to the printers money-mouthlaughing

As someone who doesn’t ‘do’ shopping the lockdown hasn’t been too onerous.  Everything I want I can get on the inter web so mixing with folk just isn’t a problem.  From day one of the lockdown there were people who didn’t and wouldn’t obey the rules so I don’t expect any difference now,  There’s a guy I’ve met on a number of occasions whilst walking and he just won’t distance at all so I put on my mask and walk on the road, his response is always the same, your effing paranoid.  I just put his behaviour down to him being totally thick

I reckon they’ll rely on word of mouth. Although some folk do their own thing regardless of advice or even rules&regs🤷🏻‍♂️

i went to Homebase yesterday, traffic has certainly picked up since the opening up of lockdown to shopping. There were no queues but i found it difficult to follow the arrows when you are looking for items. Fortunately it wasn't that busy that you could not maintain social distancing but there was a queue at the tills nicely spaced apart.

After seeing the pictures of the crowds at the shops, glad to still be in shielding. Unfortunately those of us who have obeyed the rules will be put at risk by the few idiots out there.
