Corona Virus Concerns

On the litter note. The pictures on the TV the other night of the mess left at Chatsworth, which has recently opened its parkland, were disturbing. Also burn marks on grass and picnic tables from disposable BBQ's. Apparently litter bins were provided. Although even if they weren't, it no excuse for not taking it home.

Debsc, I suppose we're twitchy in the southwest because like other coastal and tourist areas we could soon see a massive influx of visitors, they won't be on timed bookings and standing in orderly queues they're just going to arrive en masse. NZ has shut itself off from the world which is only a short term solution, we'll have to see some sort of movement but a sudden rush in July seems like one horrible experiment with unseen consequences. Personally I hope people take breaks closer to home but I don't think that will happen. The club has taken bookings for sites and the floodgates don't appear to be in place. There is very little time between businesses opening up on the 15th and then the rush for holidays.

I find it strange that not so long ago many were marching for the environment and climate change. They, quite rightly, wanted changes. Most of the litter left on our beaches recently, and there was plenty of it, was left by youngsters and young families. Older people were in the minority, most choosing to still remain at home. Teenagers were seen by locals having ' let out' parties on the beach, they left behind a huge amount of rubbish and BBQ equipment. I'm not painting them all with the same brush but what happened to 'let's change the world'

surly the only answer is total lock down 2 weeks no one out the home or come into the UK
after the weekend of marches the amount of trouble in London and Bristol they city's must be locked down if the virus rate goes up there and keep them there the police is to soft where is this no more than six people to be in one meeting

I will tell you if more than six caravans were together side by side today we would be shifted by the police or the warden in our lovely caravan sites

I am afraid it’s going to be a survival of the fittest mentality from now on D. Individuals making their own plans, risk assessments for how to conduct their future lives. For many it will be get out there and get on with things, some putting in place personal coping strategies (masks, gloves, sanitisers, keeping distance), others hoping their employers will have done all they can as well. Some possibly won’t bother too much about anything, will think it either all over, or unlikely to affect them personally.
This leaves quite a few in a huge dilemma, those deemed to be at high risk if they do get the virus, those who care for vulnerable folks and don’t want to risk their loved ones. We are in this category, that R number is critical for us.
I can foresee one convenient little gem dropping into the Govt’s lap. Any rise in the R number can now be blamed on the protest marches taking place, rather than on the Govts inept management of the overall strategy. (I don’t personally think it is the right thing to do at this time, but I can fully understand and empathise with the underlying reasons for doing it.) No matter that places that haven’t seen demonstrations have a rising R number, it will be a convenient cloak for all those who hang on every word thought and deed of our current Govt. The irony is just beyond words.☹️

No matter that places that haven’t seen demonstrations have a rising R number,
unfortunately these demonstrators came from far and wide, so no you may not have seen demonstrations in your immediate area but there were demonstrations the length and breadth of the country and the risk of infection may be at 1 in every thousand, but there were many thousands of protestors returning to every corner of the UK

Unfortunately not only a problem at tourist attractions. We have a lot of open space here in MK which is well used during the recent good weather and unfortunately a large increase in litter. This can't be blamed on tourists!!! A lot of people seem to think that if they stack it against an over filled litter bin someone else will be along to clear it up! We might not have seagulls but crows and magpies do a pretty good job!!!

With the change in the weather this last few days ,it is very noticeable the lack of litter, and as your post it also in this area most of the litter was left by the younger groups who were noted in closer than two metre spacing
And who some months ago were playing truant from school blaming the older generations for it all

I suppose the recent mass gathering will prove one of two things. If in a couple of weeks time we start to see a spike of infections then no doubt those gathering will be blamed. On the other hand if we don't see any worsening of the situation and new cases continue to fall and deaths maintain a lower level than we have been used to recently it could point the way that the virus is gradually being controlled. There is a lot of evidence out there that suggests you almost have to be unlucky to get the virus particularly if you maintain distancing, wear a face covering where that is difficult and be scrupulous about hand hygiene so much is within our own control?

That's in poor taste in view of some comments made yesterday. 😖

I've hardly read any of todays offerings on here as I was pretty disgusted with a lot of the postings yesterday and sincerely hoped that this thread would now concentrate on Virus Concerns and how it might affect the Touring community. It would appear not from the few I can see above.
I've just finished listening to Mark Drakeford, The First Minister in Wales, and basically you can almost forget touring in Wales this season. He quite rightly pointed out that any place open to tourists that share facilities would be the very last to be opened, secondly only those with self isolating facilities including bathroom, toilet and kitchen might, just might, be possibilities but here he was commenting on self contained cottages and the like rather than campsites and even then he did say that if you were to end up at such a place you would be governed by whatever distance measures that would be in force at that time, at the moment it's just 5 miles. So no fun to be had. These aren't new rules they were just answers to a question about tourism in Wales so not set in stone.
I did enjoy his reply to a question saying that a the Welsh Govt. liked to "prepare then announce the measures rather than announce measures and then try to work out the consequences".
Anyway, I wouldn't book any sites in Wales anytime soon, even if you could.

Why should it be when they haven't? Were you not around yesterday?

so was the defacing of the Winston Churchill memorial especially as it was the 6th June the official date for the D Day landings, as was the defacing of the Abraham Lincoln memorial, a guy who was assasinated for trying to quell the slave trade, and the risk of spreading corvid-19 within our gallent police officers trying to maintain law and order, but i guess we will just have to get over it and move on

But nobody has tried to pretend those incidents should be joked about, Rufs.

Yes NZ is COVID19 free for the time being and life will be as it used to be 😀. Extra relief for me as my daughter and her family live there. But Ahern has said that it will probably return and they must continue to be vigilant. No new cases for 14 days.
Their prime minister jumped very quickly to isolate their country. They locked down about the same time as us and quarantined anyone from outside at the same time. They were taken from the airport, not sure about port entries so won't comment, by an airport bus to an airport hotel and quarantined. Our quarantine is rather different you can travel on public transport, although there is a request to use private transport, to the address you give. So I can see flaws - not least how many get infected from your internal travel? Who's going to check if you're where you said you are and how often? Ours seems very halfhearted and to a certain extent I can see where the questioning is coming from. NZ still have quarantine for their returning nationals, only those folk allowed in at present, but they have been and continue to talk to Oz about an air-bridge.
Many workers in NZ had to take annual leave as well as having some government assistance. Not too up on furlough here, or there, to be honest, but daughter and grandchildren have been back at school for 3 weeks, this is week 4 and her hubby went back to work 2 weeks before that so the financial hit was for a considerably shorter period than here.
NZ is not the only country to impose quarantine, Singapore did/do, a friends granddaughter went back before our lockdown to be with her parents. Before leaving the plane/airport she had to confirm her address and phone number for her quarantine. Almost before she arrived at the family home she had a phone call to ask where she was and a police visit later the same day. These were continued at random times throughout her quarantine, sometimes more than once a day.
To enforce a tight quarantine you need hotel rooms to accommodate the arrivals, transport to get them there without contaminating the general population, food for them to eat AND the resources to enforce 🤐
I was all for quarantine at the beginning, I'm not sure it's anything other than a 'feel good' easy way for the government to appear to be doing something now. After all why would folk want to come here from a country with better R rates?? Lots of European countries who are opening up are not keen in inviting/allowing us in 🤔 I wonder why?
I think our industries/businesses, of all types, are going to be hit very very hard. We will be paying for this for years and years 😱

Pleased to hear NZ is COVID free, it must be a relief to you not having to worry too much about your family. Ours are in Hong Kong and Macau. Macau is free of the virus, due to strict early lockdown and quarantine for outsiders. Macau had designated hotels for people to quarantine in for 14 days, so they were easy to check and keep track of. Our system is just ludicrous, as you say it’s purely a government ploy to say ‘let’s show we are doing something’ exercise, in reality it means nothing. Hong Kong is getting more relaxed but it has extended its quarantine period now to September as they had 5 new cases recently.

Hong Kong has a population of C. 7 million, NZ C. 4 .8 million, UK C 66 million all these countries have variations in population density. London alone has a C 8 million, twice that of NZ. It's impossible to compare countries, age and health demographics play a big part too.
It's not our fault we're dealing with such a deadly disease. Let's hope testing becomes more reliable and more widely available so that we can find out what is really happening, until then the risk is going to be out there for a long time. Stay safe.

When talking to some of the younger generation, it seems ,they cannot understand what all the fuss is about ,when pointing out to them because they live away from areas of high population ,and very few it seems , cases in this area , it seems as a result . ,does not mean they do not need take care,,but then it is the "older generation that is "advising" what do we know? so its the raised eyebrows syndrome

Hi TW, I may be wrong, as it is taking an age to find anything so not easy to follow the thread, but I am pretty sure that Cyber was being ironic.
After my post, that he quoted, you said some comments were 'shameful' and I presumed that this was Cybers way of drawing attention to that.
I am sure he will say if he disagrees and we should know that by abouit a week next Thursday the way CT is going today.

I see it differently and that’s what matters to me.

I think I have untangled this JB😁
I think folks from all generations have different view points and concerns. Our family network covers lots of generations, from newborns to 91 year olds, and they have all done their best in their own way to find out as much as they can about what’s going on, how to keep safe, the younger, fitter ones supporting the older more vulnerable ones in lots of different ways, the older ones giving the thanks and love for everything that is being done, a bit of financial support if required. I can’t say I have seen the younger generation being any less concerned then the older generation. Either locally or via the media.😉

Agreed we are a densely populated country, but if some measures had been taken earlier, learning lessons from other countries - some on our doorstep, who knows? Sadly we never will, so we are where we are.
But I think we did too little too late, unlocked very quickly, still trying to get tests, PPE sorted properly 😢. More interested in headlines/good news rather than substance. The quarantine is just more lip service as it stands. We do need to get the country moving financially but who knows where we're heading. Not to hell in a hand cart I hope!
We keep hearing how many tests are available but, touch wood we've not needed one, as you said trying to get one wasn't easy and you still got a message saying you might not get one and in fact you didn't succeed in the time frame😢. Yet no day have we taken up, from what I've seen and read, the full 200,000. So to me those not used should still be available in the system for later use?? Based on say a chicken laying 2 eggs a day but not both eaten daily there will be a surplus 🤣
Let's all do our level best to stay safe and well. Using our common sense 😉.

Irony is great when done in good taste but not in the context of the appalling statements made yesterday.
