Corona Virus Concerns

No doubt AUS was quick to react and close its borders hence some very low figures, but there average age is slightly less than ours, and age matters, there populations densitys are much less than ours so the virus spreads less, not sure how many confirmed cases they have but probably a lot less than ours, so they probably had less issues with providing beds, equipment and PPE, and we know in the UK some of this contributed to the number of deaths, so i dont think you are comparing like with like

Sorry, but no rant, it’s just the way the country has evolved over the last three decades. I see three ex Chancellors are warning that the UK unemployment rates could mirror what happened in the early 1980’s, so heaven help us all with what’s to come. Don’t forget we still have the Brexit negotiations to happen yet.......🤔😱

Leaving was the easy bit. It’s doing the sums that matter.

Sorry but I have problems being positive about another 176 deaths. Those precious folks were someone’s mother, father, son, daughter, husband, wife, partner. ☹️
176 in one day. Greece only had 179 in total. Hurrah for the UK.☹️

you are correct , i do think the UK is doing OK, and yes 40,000 deaths is terrible, but if you put this figure against the numbers of people that have died from flu over the years it is pretty insignificant , but flu deaths are the norm now and nobody kicks off such much anymore, and if you remember some of our so called medical professionals were predicting 250,000 deaths from coronavirus at the outset, with hospitals overflowing and patients stacked up outside, did this happen, no, so for me the present position is a positive, it could be a lot lot better and if we had been proactive in some areas rather than reactive then things may have been a whole lot better, but it is what it is, move on we can make it better.

You may be correct in your analysis so far, but if the "experts" are correct and some of the Government who do not listen to them ,but take notice, as it seems in the past of their "advisor/s"
The second phase, that is quite likely , the 250,000 deaths is a possible figure

JVB, very few of Australia's population live in the outback. If we were comparing deaths per square mile you would have a point.
However many people live in the major cities:
Sydney 5.3 million London 9.75 million
Melbourne 5.0 million Birmingham 2.5 million
Brisbane 2.5 million Manchester 1.9 million
Perth 1.9 million Leeds/Bradford 2.2 million
So, as you can see many of the cities have comparable populations, Maybe the cities of Australia are not as densely inhabited but comparing 100 deaths there to almost 40000 here, surely no one can say we are doing OK.

I have been a member of CT since it's introduction, Rufs, and that is the most disgusting post I have read in all those years.
I hope you will not try to excuse your use of that expression in any way - you should be ashamed of yourself.

I think you may have misunderstood the predictions. I seem to recall a quoted possible death rate of 1-2%. Based on our population of 60,000,000+, the result would have been horrendous, outstripping worldwide deaths from flu. These numbers were of course based allowing the virus to go unchecked.

Look, i have 1 daughter and 1 SIL on the very front line, one has worked in London for 6 weeks non-stop, he came home for 1 weekend for his birthday we saw him for 1 hr he parked on our drive and did not leave his car, he slept for almost 24 hrs non stop. Our daughter is currently working in 3 practices to cover her own work and for those who are off sick with the virus , they have 3 children who we are helping to manage at harms length, so please dont preach to me.

Are you suggesting that excuses your use of inflammatory language?
Time to take a step back and a deep breath, Rufs.

It is not preaching to inform you that you have overstepped the mark.
Your current circumstances do not give you any right to post extremely offensive posts does it?

I have never in my time on CT made such personnel comments re anybody, but to read that comment irrespective of whether the person knew or did not know anything about our personal circumstances is disgusting, it was tantamount to wishing the virus on one of my family.
MY comment was not in keeping with who i am, and was inappropiate for this forum, but i cannot apologise, but i will take a step back and take a deep breath, thank you for your understanding.

I see the Australian Police are trying to stop the BLM protest planned for this weekend following their PM expressing concerns about the health risks concerned. Surely we should be doing the same in this country. There doesn't appear to be much social distancing happening in the previous demonstrations here. The MSM appear to be very interested in the large gatherings on the coast in the warm weather but not so interested when it comes to the protests.

At the outset it was suggested that mortality from C19 was about 2%. Three months on and we have a body count of 40,000 from 280,000 cases. That equates to a 14% mortality and still, ISTM, that neither those in charge or the population at large are taking it as seriously as they should.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but, from where I'm standing, some of the decisions taken seem to have been woefully inadequate bordering on the irresponsible.

We have no idea of how many cases there have been cyber ....... only how many of those tested showed positive. Initially only those showing systems were tested and the numbers tested are low. I suppose the random testing that is carried out might give a better idea but I am sure that mortality will be below 14%

+1👍🏻. Posts have been erroneously claiming C-19 is just bad flu, really?🤷🏻♂️. Here is just a snapshot, factual-not guesstimates or repeated fake news-

We are told that the virus knows no boundary's, yet we are allowed to go out and demonstrate without masks and social distancing but we are banned from attending our church, how exactly does that work?
No doubt this will be removed due to the religious content whilst politics is allowed in spite of the clubs T&C's
God bless you all

Well C that will be very interesting for sure but it’ll take many years to get a believable average, that’s if it gets a listing of its own or will it be lumped with the whole influenza family🤷🏻♂️

Those who have been demonstrating it seems by the reports ,are the same who are burying their heads in the sand ,when it comes to anything that may affect their "liberty? whereas the majority of the population and some of the government , take notice of those who we hope , are more aware of the seriousness of what is affecting much of the world and can "advise"of what to do,
ie closing for 12weeks at least ,places, where the virus is in their opinion more likely to be more easily, spread

OP, I think religion is only frowned upon when it becomes partisan & creates animosity(similarly with politics). I’m atheist but respect all others right to choose a particular God👍🏻
