Not me, I don't want to know if I've got the virus until I suspect that I'm suffering from it.laughing At my age life is too short for me to be worrying about it.

    Brue

I could be wrong but as I understand it the one announced today I don't think anyone has to join? If someone tests positive they will be contacted (details provided when tested) and quizzed over who they have been in contact with and those contacts, assuming they can be traced will be told to isolate for a period of time. I suppose the problem is that if you initially picked up the virus in a supermarket or on a bus how are you to know who the people were? Even so if they can pick up a few people it will help stop the spread.

The track and Trace App seems to have gone very quiet so I don't know what is happening to that?

Thought I might phone in to admit I'd got the symptoms and had had a 20 minutes chat with a guy called Cummings yesterday. If I've got to self isolate ......... wink

as far as i could gather, for the kick off, those who have symptoms and then order a test will be contacted, not by an app, but by the new human Contact Team....to make things a bit personal...something learned on the IOW trial.

they will collect what contact information they can and attempt to contact those people, who will have to self isolate.

the app, it seems, will be along shortly, to enable folk to fill those memory gaps (what about that bloke on the bus...) of contacts, by using the bluetooth 'pairing' as in the IOW.

I dont think the app is available yet... 'in June' apparently.

EDIT....snap DK, ypu seem to understand it as i do.

I'm wondering how much take up there'll be, I'm not keen myself at the moment.

I thought only those contacts that were considered vulnerable or at risk had to self isolate for 14 days, or those obviously showing symptoms.undecided

Ours starts in June apparently so we'll let you lot in England be guinea pigs for a few days.

Edit - I think it's just a high risk contact, say someone you've been in close contact with for an hour, maybe in a car or a room rather than vulnerable. If it was just a casual encounter with no close contact then you're OK. I think.

that's interesting, I thought we ought to doing what we can to pinpoint any virus hotspots?

    no?

isnt this the next useful tool to keep issues tied down?

there been a lot of 'comment' about 'many and various' who have misbehaved, isn't this the chance to 'do our bit'?

surely, we shouldnt be hesitating should we....or is it the 'data privacy' thing?

    no, dont think so.

the way i understood it (could be wrong) its everybody named as a contact that MUST isolate. this is to stop the spread, which can happen whether you're vulnerable or not.

the ODD bit i picked up was that, once contacted its YOU ONLY and not your household that needs to isolated.....havent worked that one out yet....

I've just checked a few details, here's yet another LINK from the BBC!

edit  Interesting, 1 in 5 Norwegians used it so the take up isn't universal.

I think we up here are to have a similar but different system, there was a long interview about it with someone on the radio this morning.

If you feel ill you should self isolate and contact whoever to arrange a test.  If positive you will be asked to provide details of anyone you have been in close contact with for 15 minutes or more In the previous 5 days.

They will then be contacted and asked to self isolate for 14 days and also tested.  If positive the process is repeated.

+1, that’s my take too. The more that’s in it the more chance of success. There’ll always be the ‘I’m not complying’ types who believe their civil liberties have been breached but I am up for doing my tiny bit too. The amount of key workers I’ve seen in tears but still helping others I owe it to them to do whatever I can.

    Totally agree BB.

I don't really understand the concerns about privacy. The App only knows the first 3 digits of your post code. Until you tell them anything else, if you report being sick, you are anonymous. That was one of the reasons he gave for the delay in introducing it. The only way you can be contacted if you have been close to someone is through the app. A human can't give you a call because they don't know who you are. It would seem there have been issues with that during the trial. Don't know, but perhaps one of compliance.

In reality your privacy is far more at risk using loyalty / discount cards (we have ones for various stores) than installing the App. All your buying habits are laid bare, they even know where you go on holiday. 😂 When we had our seasonal at Cirencester, we received emails from the local M&S about their promotions.

I understand a big drawback with the system is even if you do not have any symptoms you could have to self isolate on numerous occasions,if you have been close contact with some one who has advised they have the symptoms , which in places of high population or if commuting is quite possible,

Steve. The app isn't up and running yet but the contact and trace is starting where you have to provide details of your contacts etc.

When this app was originally announced, it was touted as a "wonder solution". Now it appears that it is only expected to reduce infections by 5-15%. Whilst "every little helps" it's hardly a game-changer. It might just about compensate the detrimental effect that DC's actions will have on compliance.  As for a drive to 'test eyesight' that just happened to be on his wife's birthday - one can understand the view that we are being taken for fools.

Interesting interview between Nick Robinson and Matt Hancock on radio 4 on request for self isolation after being contacted 🤐. Felt sorry for Hancock, never thought I'd use those words for a politician 😡 I fear we're in for another big hit because of a certain persons action and the arrogance since. We will continue to do our bit - at least that way we can't be asked to self isolate following a call, once or multiple times.

Edit I didn't feel sorry for him.

I realise that brue. However, the system that starts today, is limited by the information the person (who tests positive) can provide. In the case of those who have to use public transport in big cities, most won't know who they were close to for perhaps 15 minutes. I see the App as a very important tool in the Arsenal for controlling Covid. Although it will depend on how many take it up when available.

the reason for this is that you might have caught it, but arent displaying symptoms.

if you carry on strolling about, you could infect more people.

    if you isolate, you wont.

as i said earlier, the bit i havent got my head around yet is why the household of the person contacted doesnt seem to be required to isolate too?

if i got the call, as a potential carrier, wouldn't OH be potentially a carrier, too?

obviously something simple ive missed undecided

When you recieve the message or possible messages ,and self-isolate? you would be on SSP that is paid by your company? and as i mentioned in my post could happen more than once, undecided

I think it is hoped that "if" you then show to have symptoms,  it will then be your whole houshold follow youfrown

I think the manual track and trace will be a good system when you know who you have been in contact with like family, friends or colleagues. Where the app will succeed is where the contact is unknown to you and I agree this makes the app a pretty important tool. Whether we currently have the right app we will have to wait and see!
