Corona Virus Concerns

The advice today remains contradictory, misleading and open to so much individual interpretation it will allow those amongst us who live by their own 'brand' of common sense to manipulate the wording of the guidance to justify, what many of us will consider, their stupidity.

I never said you did Steve but I did. It was AD who suggested the police made up their own rules with the quasi police state phrase and free reign to do as they wished.
but as you (and I said) it's all down to viewpoints.

Unfortunately, he has done nothing to support all in authority who should be backing him up and protecting us all from those who have their very own brand of common sense. In fact he has tied hands behind backs and made our protectors particularly impotent.

Yes very sad, been members for a good many years. Anything similar from the NT?

I would suspect that the police are breathing a sigh of relief, with the amount of stick they have been receiving from all quarters,, they as always, when they are asked to assist any government with "problerms" are between "a rock and a hardplace" what ever they do

Not had anything yet, but they have given us 25% off next years Membership. We are members of Cadw as well, they have applied a three month extension to our current membership automatically. I inadvertently cancelled our DD with the RSPB last week (as you do when checking your list of DDs😂) we have reinstated that now, gone to an annual DD, rather than the quarterly one we used to have.
I have a feeling that NTS are a bit different to NT. I suspect they might be more reliant upon a short tourist season for the big properties, and they staff some very big visitor centres like Glencoe. NT is the single largest landowner in the UK (excluding Scotland) so they are sitting on huge assets. They have a vast army of unpaid volunteers as well that contribute to keeping the properties open, plus the income from an endless source of TV and film work.
Need to do a bit of reading up, find out what is happening, got a bit behind to be honest.

Not clear enough for some ET.
The BBC Wales news today has a report from a Holiday Park in Rhyl that has had over 80 contacts, half phone, half email asking if they are open this week. This park has a lot of Static seasonal vans on it and the vast majority of enquirers were from the city catchment areas of Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. Most had paid for the year and wanted access to the site following Johnsons waffle fest the other night. Some tourers also made enquiries.
Quite a few didn't understand that different rules and laws apply to the 2 countries. This is a result of the PM not making it crystal clear that his new regs apply only to England. Indeed some callers didn't understand that Scotland also has different rules.
No way I'm trusting the common sense of the population. I'm taking my own precautions.

It has never been the job of either the Govt nor the Police to protect us at this time that job is ours. If we know folk are ignoring rules-walk the other way. If crowds are gathering in tight groups-walk the other way. I need no one to tell me to use common sense, I have a high sense of self preservation that will stop others from harming me in these times. Certainly not a remote Govt nor an overstretched Police force. It became obvious 7weeks ago ‘don’t rely on everyone else’

Rather worryingly, it looks as though the largest issue for NTS is its stock market history.🤷♀️

Agree totally, micky, and it was the very point I was making yesterday, not understood by all.
I'd like someone to explain in what way "stay at home" today, but "drive as far as you like, no limit" tomorrow can be described as a "small step".
I feel for folks living in tourist and seaside areas this coming (hot, sunny) weekend.

Unfortunately this is true due to the lack of clarity and support their job was placed firmly between that rock and hard place, in fact it made their job intolerable. Sigh of relief because blame is now placed on all of us despite the fact that most of us are, and will continue to be sensible adults. We are not the problem, those that 'walk' amongst us are!

Living in Wales I would say that the Welsh government are extremely poor at communicating within Wales, let alone the rest of the UK.
The welsh Government is P poor in communication and all to ready to blame others for their failings.
My daughter has a static that she rents out on the Welsh coast and everyone that she deals with is well aware of the situation ..... why would they not be?

I happen to agree with your view of the Welsh government.
However the crux of my post was that it was the English callers who didn't understand the regulations. Why would they know about what the Welsh government were saying? Although you would have thought that with having their leisure vehicle in Wales they may have taken the trouble to find out.
They were quoting Johnson after his Sunday night television appearance.
Regardless of that they didn't understand that Caravan Parks, wherever they are sited, are to remain closed. So not a great deal of knowing what, who or where they were now allowed to participate in.

Or just playing at being ignorant of what is and is not allowed, trying to see what they can get away with.

Not difficult to understand really, ‘no limit’ is a fairly irrelevant statement. It’s not how far you drive. but what you do at the destination that counts, Anybody driving wherever will be restricted by the reality of the situation e.g. closed hotels/campsites/B&B/pubs/restaurants and a fairly hostile reception from locals. All you can reasonably do is sit on a bench (socially distanced) eating your bag of chips while watching out for starving seagulls. The added benefit is that a few local businesses in dire straits will benefit from the visit. If you want to stay over, you’ll need to sleep on the bench as well. Current overnight temperature is about 4C so unlikely to be a popular choice. So, you might want to take a big step, but all you’re manage is a small step. We don’t need to legislate for everything, some things just work out. What’s the alternative, restricting people to 35 miles or 67 miles or 82miles? It just becomes ridiculous. The most dangerous folks are second home/holiday home owners, they’ll be well advised to stay away, but many of them have proved too selfish to take that advice.

Yes, I've a very good idea. It’s been reported to Ro many a time.

The business secretary says the last two months have been really hard for the tourism and hospitality sectors.
He says the new rules coming into force do allow people to travel more but do not permit overnight stays.
Asked when tourism firms may be allowed to re-open, he stresses the importance of avoiding a second peak and suggests that only when ministers are sure this has been avoided, then it can look to allow people to go on breaks and holidays across the UK

I have had no problem with the Welsh Government Communication. It has been consistent throughout the epidemic. Travel restrictions strict and enforced. There has been very little reported incidents of the Welsh population being fined. It has been incomers that have caused the problems. The previous comments on the Holiday Park in Rhyl just amplifies the position. Boris and his waffle obviously was not understood by the English.

Really I'm sad you can make such remarks as waffle about such things and cast blame
