Corona Virus Concerns

I will be surprised if there is a parking space in the Lakes or Peak district after this.
Or Cornwall.

The police and number plate recognition are doing a great job. A number of Londoners stopped, fined and in one case had their car confiscated in Betws y Coed on Saturday. We want to remain safe here in Wales. With a devolved government we can do things different.

The old bill didn’t wear PPE🤷🏻♂️, I may not agree with the protesters but I think the authorities are giving mixed messages☹️

I agree EasyT. I have been baffled as to why we can’t have a day out in the countryside, on our own, take a picnic and have a walk. Yet we can visit a supermarket or B&Q!! I’m looking forward to a day out somewhere, which I THINK the PM said was ok now? Will await clarification.

There’s a big difference in shopping for food and essentials at a supermarket or hardware store and having a day out in the countryside with a picnic. Sure, it would probably safe if just you did it, but when half the country joined in, as I’m sure most people would want to do the same, it would be disastrous.

Golf courses in England are preparing to reopen from Wednesday, following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s address to the nation

golfers will be allowed to play - on their own or with one member of their own household.

I do not think any one is really bothered about places becoming "devolved" and letting those with big "chips on shoulders" making their own decisions, as long as when they do the huge subsidies they receive are in line with the rest of the populations instead of higher as now

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said on Twitter: "In tentative steps and in the least risky outdoor environments, we can imminently allow some sports activity like golf, basketball, tennis, fishing - solo/in households. Guidance to follow.
How do you play tennis solo and how many households can field a basketball team?

OH has been taking lots of phone calls for the local club fishing licences (angling shops are closed at the moment.) Although it's the closed season on rivers it looks as though, with appropriate distancing angling on ponds and lakes might be resumed.
I hope similar outdoor activities will gradually resume, although it's noisy the clay pigeon shoot not far from us might be back to annoy me on Sunday mornings. However it's a positive rather than a negative in these circumstances.

Spoke to a friend who's a highway police officer this morning - apparently their latest briefing is to stop no one driving (unless they suspect a crime is being committed) as they are powerless to take any action if the driver now claims to be driving to exexcise!

I agree that is it the job of Her Majesty's Most Loyal Opposition, to hold the Government of the day to account. However job of the press is to report and examine the news so they can explain it to their readers. In the course of doing that they often find that what they have been told by Government doesn't always stand up, so by pointing out the errors they are in fact holding the Government to account. Now the printed press is factional with some supporting one side of the political divide and the rest the other and I imagine if we buy a newspaper we buy one that accords to our own views?
Television Journalism is different because it's governed by more rules in order to maintain an independent view. However that does not stop them investigating the facts and reporting when those facts are found to be wrong.

No I don't teach in a classroom I carryout practical training and assessments of future engineers mostly on machinery and equipment in smaller spaces than my MH.
Matt Lucas on the PM's speech about sums it up
If people start travelling to the country side for their walks and exercise by car, they won't find anywhere to park, around here anyway, all carpark gates are 'welded' shut or boulders placed in the entrance.
as well as being fined for lockdown breaking 14 cars owners were fined yesterday for parking on the verges at Portland bill having travelled out of the county for a visit and thought it would be alright to park on environmentally protected ground.
So I think that using traffic regs instead of inconsistent lockdown rules may still keep the masses at bay for a while.

The B in L and sister in Orange can travel 100 km from home from today. Beyond that they need to have an approved reason and carry a self certified form. All very clear what is allowed.
Boris was a little vague last night. I would hope he meant that as before folk who lived in a built up area, possibly a high rise could drive 10 / 20 minutes to walk in parkland or countryside. If he was meaning day trips to Skegness or the Peak District (for our area) that is going to be a recipe for disaster. Hopefully there will be some clarification today.🤞

I've had a smile over the newspapers recently as in normal circumstances I just buy the Saturday i and am pleased to read it's fairly neutral responses. Since the Waitrose delivery has been arriving I've ordered the free papers and I can compare The Telegraph with The Guardian etc. I had forgotten how much they influence their readers or how much the newspaper owners keep things under their thumbs... but I still like to think we have a free press and media in general, thankfully.
What's been interesting, aside from the news during the lockdown is that TV series are coming to the end of their pre-filmed episodes, be prepared if you are a fan of any of them to see a lot of fill ins and interviews from two metres.
