My original question was why they’re(masks) denounced other than as a protection for others from the wearer. Why not for the wearer from others. I isolated the mask in my question. I know of the entry points into an individual thru the body👍🏻

The mask will take up and retain, on it's surface, the virus from the saliva of those that cough or even breath close to you. It will stay there and can then pass into your body via your sinuses and so affect you, if you are not already suffering from the virus.

But many who have, or are carriers of, the virus do not necessarily show the symptoms, and they themselves would not know if they have the virus or not, and so could legitimately be out and about. Even if they have tested negative one day won't mean that they've not contracted the virus some time after the test.

BB, I was following on from pd's which you queried by your comments, pointing out that people could well have the virus but not be showing the symptoms, but might take to wearing a mask as a matter of choice when they go out.

Precisely, So as not to infect others, not altruistic just common sense. A physical barrier stopping you from infecting others around you.
However if others 'dont care a fig' and dont wear one (until they are told they HAVE to). and possibly even have to have the mask supplied to them.
Then we are screwed.And sites probably wont be allowed to open until next year.

I certainly agree with your last two sentences, BB. We have made a,couple of masks but won't be wearing them till we are required to do so.

I bought some from two medical suppliers. I asked first about supplies being available for NHS people and was assured that there were stocks. (Now read somewhaere else that NHS have to purchase centrally.) Bought two expensive ones that are washable and 10 disposable ones. Absolutely essential not to touch them after fitting. If you do, sanitise hands before and afterwards. Most corona viruses also get in through the eye so to be really sure goggles are needed. That is why they say masks protect other people more than the wearer. We shall wear masks when in indoors with other people. Interesting that the 2 metre rule seems a bit arbitrary. It's based on research done in the 1930's. Droplets from talking go about 1.5 metres. Finer droplets, called aerosols, probably travel further. Sneezing can go 6 metres!!!! So anyone sneezing without covering should be........... (Answers on a post card please.)

It could possibly be the difference between a mild infection and a fatal one. I'm no virologist but ISTM that any barrier is better than none. For those that drive precipitous mountain passes, would you rather have a small barrier or none at all?

Hi, why would you need to wear masks when indoors unless the people are not part of your household and you cannot distance?
The 2 m 'rule' is part of the guidance, and where possible I will stay away from people completely, but I think the wearing of masks is very likely to make people more inclined to breach this.

R.E. your last sentence. I agree that mask wearing will make us complacent especially regarding distancing. An example. Yesterday we had a courier delivery to site. Our system here is the driver leaves package by gate and we acknowledge delivery, then we take it for disinfection. So, this guy has a full paper boiler suit, gloves and a mask, strolls through gate and comes toward me. "Woah there" I say, get back to 2 meters. It's ok he says, don't need to worry about that, I've got ppe on!
How many more will adopt that attitude?

I've witnessed that attitude as well, JK. It's noticeable in supermarkets where some mask wearers charge around seeming to think social distancing doesn't apply to them.

Not of course helped by the fact we are being told they will almost certainly be required on public transport to allow a relaxation of the 2 metre distance. This implies they provide a measure of protection, where as the science seems to dispute that.

If we are required to wear masks, do we supply our own and if so then Ebay or Amazon is a hotbed for fakes at the moment. I have no idea about making one, my sewing skills are non existent as are my wifes

That’s different to the supermarkets I’ve been to recently. The people wearing masks seem to be the most cautious and risk averse, staying far more than the advised 2m distance.

I just ruined a pair of new 'Puma' walking socks
my cutting skills need a little practice also. I think I need some longer ones as it pulled my ears forward so far they looked similar to Prince Charles'But some good ideas out there.

I love all those wearing masks puffing on a fag, or in many instances, something not as legal, mask down on chin. Gives one real hope for humanity.........🤣

OH will probably make some but I have also ordered a box on Amazon, supplier had a good score and reviews generally positive on quality and delivery. Should be here in a week. Don't intend to use public transport and the amount we are going out, other than into the forest, is minimal, so 50 should last a good time, if and when they become a requirement. Worked out at 54p each.
