brue I can understand why your confidence has dropped laughing

Having worn our masks now on a few occasions while out shopping I can confirm that they are not the most comfortable things to wear if

a, you wear a hearing aid over the ear type

    b, you wear glasses

The elastic I've used 3mm much better than the first ones I made. Make it just long enough and no more other wise it does annoy the top of your ear.

I've now made another 2 masks but instead of putting the elastic so it goes around the ear. I have made them with longer elastic and one piece goes around the neck and the other slightly longer piece goes over the top of your head. Very much like the tied on versions but with elastic. They are much more comfortable to wear and the bonus is we can wear them when on the bikes, I tried it out at the weekend and its great, keeps the flies off your face.smile

I have yet to wear a mask, any where, the area we live is not very busy pedestrian wise ,and plenty of  room for social distancing, even walking into town and shopping today ,was very sparsely occupied

,I do carry an F2 mask in its plastic wrapping  just in case i need to come in close contact with anyone,

I can't decide whether I think they're a good idea or not despite the various arguments for and against. From an ignorant point of view I keep thinking that they don't seem to have prevented a massive outbreak in China, where wearing them has been the norm for years.....

Personally I will only wear a mask if it is a legal requirement and if the Health service provides them, Having lived through a world war, Asian flu, a few nuclear explosions this to me is just a blip in life's journey, remember that many other things cause greater loss of life. For example over 40,000 people die each year from sepsis alone. Remember its important to be sensible and follow the guidance we are given, but don't be led astray by the media hype.

Meeting the Wardens on an open site (when that happens!) shouldn't be Dreaded by them, if ALL Members wore a mask by default, and Wardens too of course ! the oral spreading of Germs/virus could be cut down.

Close the toilet blocks, pre pay before coming to site, no shop on site, then you might have a chance to have the sites open.

If those were the imposed conditions, I would rather stay at home. There will be no pleasure in being away and using sites in such circumstances.🙁

I am doubtful whether they need to be worn by members on a Club site but I wonder if wardens might prefer to wear them as they will come in contact with many more people and of course they have no idea how well those people are. However I do imagine that they will be required on public transport purely as a means being able to get enough people on buses and trains. That seems to be the way things are moving.

Masks supposedly only help stop someone who has a virus from spreading it. They offer little to no protection from catching a virus.

Do you understand that PD?, I struggle with the logic🤷🏻‍♂️. If it stops virus loaded saliva from passing thru out of nose/mouth how does it not stop virus loaded saliva from entering in the opposite direction🤔. To me it’s like locking your door to stop folk entering yet you can exit without unlocking. I’d love to understand these odd masks.

There is still the risk of picking up a virus from contact, all you are doing is perhaps protecting your mouth.

I don't mind no facility blocks but having to wear a mask represents a higher risk than I would want to take and it is for that reason I would be perfectly happy staying at home to enjoy my locality and hobbies.

Mark, the medical jury (and subsequent govt recommendations) re masks is still out....there doesnt seem to be convincing evidence either way that it would make any significant difference, i await that outcome.

re: sites...no toilets, pre pay, no shop etc.....just like touring France on Aires...whats not to likewink

i certainly think that, if washrooms are the risk area then sites could open first without them, and that could include no facs CLs too.

...and, folk who have symtoms including coughing (all over the place....) should be at home isolating...or in hospital if its that bad...not on campsites or in shops.

    stay home....etc, etc...undecided

as David mentions, i think a closure of site facs might be more of an issue for some than for others..

our water tanks last us 5/6 days even when showering in the van so we dont have the water mgt issues (say) a caravanner might.

as mentioned above, not much different to when we use aires abroad, or CL/THS in the uk.

we actually quite like our cupboardsmile

I am not sure we know the full truth of that? Logically why would doctors and nurses wear them if they didn't offer a degree of protection. I appreciate that medical masks are worn with other protection. It is also interesting that those countries where masks are worn almost as standard there is less spread of the virus and I am also aware that there methods of tracking and tracing have been more robust.  I am not suggesting there is any sort of absolute guarantee but I am concerned we have been discouraged from wearing masks in this country because of the general shortage of PPE? Might there have been a lot less deaths amongst Transport for London drivers if more masks had been worn?

I suspect the difference is that medics wear masks and bin them to avoid cross contamination. Joe public would likely wear the same one day after day.

There is report out there where the evidence of all types of masks have been scientifically tested. I can't give a link just now but it did say that ordinary surgical masks give about 33% protection. They even tested bandanas. The tougher icu masks are made from different man made fibres much more resistant to particles plus they wear face shields. Our eyes are vulnerable too.

Medics dealing with C19 confirmed cases are wearing full face shields, as well as masks.

Or not, if there are none available☹️

This is where the “oh but I am wearing a mask, so I think I will be ok” issue kicks in. Not necessarily. Lots and lots of variables.🤔

I don’t think anyone could discourage me from wearing a mask. It’s my choice. Getting hold of a more effective mask is the issue, hence all the volunteers making quality ones as close to NHS standard as they can, and lots of others busy sewing, knitting, sticking, pasting, glueing with whatever they can get their hands on.

If you think about it, anything that prevents any amount of infected droplets being sprayed from the body, (sneeze, cough, choke, guffaw) is better than nothing. It sort of takes the tissue/hanky a whole level up. But you still have degrees of risk involved. So safe distancing and regular, quality handwashing is still required. Anything not NHS are more about the wearer not spreading it, NHS is about the wearer not catching it.

I found this the other day. With care, and possibly might need a cotton mask filter to prevent condensation, it covers the three main routes for virusto enter body. Made by an industrial designer playing around with masks. Visibility is good, tube ensures air in, but guards against largest virus droplets, fit is quite tight, lightweight, easy on and off. Says it can be cleaned as well, not sure how though.

Not quite sure about sneezing in it though!🤓

Masks do nothing to stop you catching it through the eyes.

With the face mask issue, I wonder why nobody has thought of wearing plexi or Perspex face shields, a lot more comfortable.

Most shops that are open now have Perspex screens to protect the worker and the shopper.

although a shield  may not give 100%  protection,  nor does a face mask that leave the eyes exposed. Face shields surely reduce the transmission risk or why would all working areas have them fitted?.

Time will tell whether its a conspiracy or not but there is enough genuine medical advice out there that suggests wearing a mask in some circumstances can protect both the wearer and those around them. The minutes of the various SAGE meetings have not been published so we have no idea what was said behind closed doors. The only thing we know is that the various politicians and medical advisors have done their best since the start of this crisis to advise that masks are not necessary but strangely that view is starting to soften. You can all make up your own minds on why that might be. However I expect they have seen the polling which suggest that 50% of the population will be reluctant to go back to normal even when restrictions are eased. That suggests it would have a devastating impact on the economy so I would suggest the softening of response is due to that concern. Clearly whilst the Government has been reasonable generous in terms of what it has put in place in terms of financial support it clearly can't go on forever and they need the economy to recover PDQ. That won't be helped if a large sector of the population is concerned about resuming the old normal life?

plenty of opportunity there for those who crave 'social distancing' (even before the latest situation).wink
