Corona Virus Concerns

Do you have much experience of HongKong because I am afraid you are wrong.
Hong Kong has seen many earlier epidemics - SARS, bird flu, swine flu and so on. They simply knew what to do and how to do it.
When tne final story of Covid is told tne UK will be seen to have handled things very badly.

It only takes one person (in a non essential delivery van) from an infected area to take the virus into a virus free area, and whoosh, away you go.

China has ‘wet markets’ basically they are walk thru slaughterhouses, folk buy a live animal(any & all animals) it is slaughtered in front of them with no recourse to rules & laws. It is their culture🤷🏻♂️. Ideal situation & breeding ground for cross species infections as has been proved even before now☹️

its just a simple point....
i admit there are plonkers about all over the place doing stupid things, but constantly posting on here (every other post is a 'look at this idiot' one) wont change their actions...unless they are CT members and suddenly get the message....they will generally carry on just 'being idiots'.
if the level of idiotic behaviour is a particular problem for anyone, especially in their own locale, then perhaps avoidance is the answer.
i dont tell folk how to act (despite what M thinks...) but if the huge number of reported (on CT) numpties is causing a problem, keep out of their way...
...isn't that better than encountering them and then posting about it on CT.....especially if anyone feels they are in the 'vulnerable' section.

Why oh why, when we have a thread that is important and of great interest to many on CT, is it hijacked by the usual suspects (you, and we, know who you are) who seem intent of backbiting and bickering amongst yourselves?
It is becoming tedious having to read this rubbish (to get it out of the way) and it is getting in the way of those who wish to post sensible and relevant content.
Why not just open your own thread titled "Let's have a go at each other"

We still have spare critical care beds. Mr Hancock said there were 2,295 spare across Great Britain today, up by 150 from yesterday.

That sounds like good news. Now I want to hear good stuff about PPE supplies.

To be honest, W, yes, maybe I shouldn't have taken the bait. It's just that I have an aversion to being told what to do by anyone simply because their views are different to mine. I have tried throughout the thread to express exactly what the thread is about - my "Coronavirus Concerns". That's what I will continue to do and try to resist the temptation to be sidetracked.

Yes agree and guilty as charged too, having a differing point of view is fine but it crosses the line when one is told what to do, apologies.

Not here they are not Alan, all our supermarkets are open and doing business just like any other normal day.
Aldi wasn't busy this morning at all, managed to get all I and sister needed, even got the elusive Broccoli
Then went to Asda to pick up sisters prescription, queue all along the front of the shop and going round the corner. Decided not to bother going in as I know she wasn't desperate for me to collect it. Will have to go back again another day but will do it when its quieter. She did phone up and ask if they could put it in with her food delivery but was told no.

I must admit that we've been out a number of times on a daily walk, but not every day. We too have met people who don't seem to want to move over and so we seem to be the ones moving over more often.
I do understand what BB means by staying at home, as that's what we've done on a number of days, just to avoid people. Especially on Friday and yesterday, when the weather up here was so nice and we suspected there would be a lot more people out and about. We tend to stay at home when the weather is nice, we're lucky enough to have a good sized garden, so quite happy with that.
Did go for a walk earlier this afternoon, and didn't meet many people, weather a lot cooler and no sun here today!

We have been quite fortunate here. Apart from one cyclist, who came close and worried me because he was breathing so heavily, everyone else, young and old has either moved away or waited while we moved away. A little girl ran close but her Dad pulled her back, poor little thing, she wouldn't understand, so difficult for the very young.

Does anyone on here not have gas central heating? As mentioned in my original post we're intending to move to a rural location in next few years and a few of the areas we've looked at have oil filled systems.
Is this a cause for concern in the current climate? Are logs and coal etc available as normal for those who have open fires or log burners? I assume that these things are essential, but as a lifelong "surburbian", it's something I've no experience of!

Guardian reporting that a group of 10 foreign tourists in India have been caught breaking the lockdown rules. The offenders were each made to write 'Sorry' 500 times ... [and make it look as though they meant it?]

"Apart from one cyclist, who came close and worried me because he was breathing so heavily"
Deb, without "telling anyone what to do' your post illustrates exactly what i was saying...
you admit to being "worried" by this person. tomorrow it could happen again.
if we are to maintain our distance it also requires others to help us do this. the cyclist certwinly wasnt doing that.
we walk every day and are lucky to have a very quiet route to use, with others being very aware of the need for separation and we usually work out who is moving which way in plenty of time....usually followed by a Hello and Thank ypu...
I've not (yet) felt worried....if I do then ill change my routine.

We used to have oil fired c/h, tbells, but like almost everyone else have had gas for some time. The oil always left a smell and I was glad to get rid of it.
We had an elderly neighbour who had her bungalow run entirely on electricity, using electric storage heating at night thereby getting it cheaper but I have no idea if it is still in use.
We do still have 2 neighbours who use oil but not a topic that crops up a lot. I could ask them specifics if you want as I see one of them passing us regularly. I could shout the questions ! Let me know.

Hi BB, I was not quoting an article but the .gov website.
There is no requirement that people at work are doing essential work, just that they cannot work from home, and there are no essential items. You, on the other hand, taking plants to your Dad would not be at work so this activity is not one of those permitted as a stand alone event.

We have gas heating bells but we do live in a rural area and on looking to move house my OH won't even look at properties that are oil fired. We have a few friends who do have this heating and complain each winter year that they are running low waiting for deliveries. I think it would be ok if you are very well organised and remember to order well in advance.

We live in an area without mains gas but use LPG to run our boiler so there are ways around it.
Being fairly rural at a time like this is a blessing. There are very few people to contend with, we have peace and quiet and a lovely outlook yet the local shops and facilities are only a short drive away.

Hi, presume you are asking about oil fired systems?
We were all electric and, as there is no mains gas, it was either LPG or oil as an alternative. We decided on oil, mainly due to the cost and tank siting for LPG, and when new and keeping records it was cheaper than electric.
1000 litres will last up to 12 months and this is for all our cooking, we have a range, and heating.
Filled up three weeks ago at 38p per litre.
