I remember we were staying in Coniston when the outbreak first hit the news and I seem to remember all the paths up onto the fells being closed, or at least having notices up to that effect. I believe it was pretty much universally adhered to. Folk do need instruction rather than invitation at times of crisis! frown

As you alluded to I think there is a huge difference in going up Scafell Pike and around Derwentwater. The first is being an idiot as a  slip or fall can happen to the best of us.

But as you say none of the Lakes MRT have nothing like that? I see the National park fell top assessors have stopped too.

I remember red tape around some of the paths and routes onto the fells. But I think it's academic, or as Del Boy would say (with more ironic accuracy) epidermic, as unless you live in the lakes very very few will be on the fells.

Most of Europe has issued legally enforced lockdowns or similar restrictions on movement, supported by on the spot fines. 'That is the law. You will obey or else suffer the penalties'.

So, when UK asks politely that people follow the Government's advice on social distancing and non-essential travel, but issue a legal ban on opening pubs, cafes et al, they are inviting people to take compliance on distancing and travel as optional ['if it was serious, they would have issued a ban' reaction].

Health professionals have begun to come forward today to make this point, whilst also hinting at the difficult decisions they will have to make on who will be allocated the ICU Bed and ventilator. Italy's ICU Beds were swamped, yet they have twice as many as the UK, and the UK infection curve is set to mirror that in Italy. Less of the Sergeant Wilson polite imploring, more of the Sergeant Major bawled instruction needed.

What part of "please do not do non essential journeys " did you not understand? ,although you were not alone in your "does not apply to me " as were those who numerouse politions ,and local authorities stated this last weekend, with the stupidity ,of people,

After BoJo speaks tonight, we will be told, not asked, to stay at home. A very clear message me thinks.

Doubtless you will find a way to misinterpret the message to garner points to go up the cast list of a Christopher McQuarrie screenplay to while away your time indoors tongue-out

This a time where childish point scoring is uncalled for to be frank.

Did you teach kids about humanity, which is what this COVID-19 is about, or was it just sums?

I hope some sort of legislation will be put in place to enforce the social distancing.

There have been two deaths in Cornwall today. One, the one some of you may have seen featured on TV, was known to me. He lived in the village across the valley. Tell you what, that sure brings the reality of the situation home if anyone has not been taking the issue seriously.

That's the second (at least) mention you've made of "a Christopher McQuarrie screenplay" KS.

Am I the only one in the dark? Please enlighten!  undecided

The leader of the Snowdonia MRT was saying a similar thing on the radio on Saturday, when Snowdon was as busy as on a Bank Holiday weekend.

Thanks, WN. He wasn't a close friend and I’d not seen him for quite some time. It’s a bit of a shock though to realise someone living that close has succumbed.

Sadly, we are all likely to be similarly affected.

I’ll wager a full nationwide lockdown, with some exceptions for vital travel, key personnel. All businesses to close except food, maybe fuel.

3 days earlier than I predicted way way back in this thread

EDIT, the edit I was dreading, wife is on an off day, she’s just been told to get ready and be at the station for 9

When we have an unpresedented crisis like now the needs of the few must take second stage the need of the many. Its tough but one could have anticipated this and made adequate arrangements, Blaming others does not cut mustard.

I really have no idea what you're on about Keith (or Sharon) or what point you are trying to score yourself.

I have always said stay at home but walks are permitted aren't they? I think they will be permitted even after any message tonight within the 2m rules. I have never said drive anywhere to walk anywhere. Please post where I did?

All I did was correct a factually incorrect post by TG. There is enough fake news about isn't there?

Like others I have no idea who Chris what-his name is eithersmile

Well what was expected after the attitude of the denials amongst us , and has been forecast by many on here, has come into force, ,but I expect there are still those who do not think it means them, the problem we have in the UK is going to be the enforcement

My other half has just called me, she’s been asked to do 12 on 12 off for a week, then 3 off, switching to days after that, again 12 on 12 off. Basically covering known areas where yoofs meet, breaking up any groups and sending them home. Plus... checking pubs aren’t hosting lockins

In an effort to help you, someone has posted on another forum that for people in your position you might try contacting communitysupport@yha.org.UK it appears they may have rooms. That is as much info as I have but worth a try, I hope it helps.

A quick read of the list of permitted external activities seems to give a loophole for anyone minded to break the rules.

    1. Infrequent as possible shopping 'I went for a toilet roll, but they said there was no stock, but to come back later after the next delivery today ...'

    2. 'My upstairs neighbour is vulnerable and was asleep when I did my shopping. She needs food supplies urgently ...'

    3. 'I did my shopping this morning, now I'm taking my exercise ...'

    4. 'The dog needs exercising twice a day ...'

As JVB says, enforcing is going to be a nightmare for those minded to flout the ban.

Yeah, give it a few days and Boris will be back on declaring a full on lockdown if the public don’t fully comply, basically after the Bill passes through Lords on Thursday night, then the Police will be able to do more.

Marty, are you in Lowestoft or Yarmouth.  If so how long do you need a site to stay on?
