Just returned from a necessary trip to Royal Liverpool Hospital. The sineage on the roads in North Wales explicitly tell people to stay away. The best was by traffic lights saying" If its red turn round and B....off home.The Nat Park Car park at Bala lake is cordoned off. Heed the advise STAY AT HOME

Who's Janey Godley? Where have you been?
She is a Glaswegian comedienne whose speciality is the voice over, but substituting 'her wee [imaginary] pals' who pass weekends together ina static caravan on the coast. Hence 'Treeza' will bring the soup pot etc for the social get together, and Janey's pithy analysis of whatever topic the voice over covers is a joy to behold.
She attended a protest gathering about the visit of the President of US, and had an interesting debate with a Police Officer who was proposing to arrest her for carrying an offensive placard. The Officer backed down when she argued eloquently that her placard was a summary of her analysis of his actions and offered to supply supporting evidence ...
Elaine and I really enjoy her work, so I am, perhaps, just a wee bit partisan ...

Mountain rescue announced today that they will only rescues those in real need of it to protect their people.
Those lost on the mountains will be told to wait where they are until the next day.
Those walking injured will be told to walk off the mountain themselves.
Hopefully this will focus the minds of the those stupid enough to go there.
OH said on the group he is a member of that a number of the 365 MHers are looking for places to stay with the sites closing down. There has been quite a few offers from farms and those with land to spare to use there land (certain conditions would apply I would think) quite generous an offer under the current climate.

Really? Which MRT has announced this? Just shown my wife your post (police officer) and she finds that extraordinary. MRTs that she has worked alongside have the same mentality as all emergency services and will always attend, whenever needed, as quickly as possible, regardless of the danger, as much as their own H&S assessment allows.

I must say that, if true, I agree that is an extraordinary and very disappointing state of affairs, not withstanding the "idiocy" of anyone risking themselves and others out on the mountains at present. Not sure how "real need" might be assessed now differently from more normal times.

Which MRT is this? none of the lakes teams have anything like this? It seems a very strange statement and at odds with their purpose and being available 24/7

Being outdoors has many health benefits both mental and physical and we are happy for individuals to take advantage of this where they can. However, at the moment, we ask people not to take any unnecessary risks. If they are going to go out, they should walk, climb and cycle well within their capabilities so that they are more likely to stay safe.
Also if you are lost, waiting a day perhaps won't make any difference and indeed all it means is that the team may have to go out at night or in worse weather conditions when the people lost have developed hypothermia.
The thing is you can just as easily break a bone on a lake shore path as high up. If I lived in the lakes I would certainly be doing some walks (alone) but not the more 'dangerous' ones and all low level.

If Tammygirl could expand which MRT has announced this.
One aspect of MRTs is that they never judge, advise yes, but they will never fail to attend to anyone as quickly as is reasonably possible regardless of whether a patient has acted against advice.Nor would they threaten to do so.
An MRT would never leave a person in distress until the next day because they’ve neglected advice. They would also never ask a walking wounded to make their own way off a mountain. They can’t professionally assess a patient's injuries from a distance nor would they try.

BBC Wales reporting that the Welsh Assembly Government are ordering the closure of ALL campsites, static or touring in Wales. People to be asked to vacate by Monday. Also closure and severe restrictions to hotspot areas in National Parks, such as Snowdonia, Pen-y-fan and Sugar Loaf areas of Brecon Beacons NP. Following the unprecedented scenes this weekend.

That is hardly the point though is it? Idiotic it may be but frankly I find it hard to credit that any MRT would act in the way suggested.
I'm trying to remember what happened in 2001 (?) during the foot & mouth crisis. Weren't all the fells put out of bounds? Maybe that should be considered now, sad though that would be.

If I lived next to a mountain, I would happily go and walk up it right now. I wouldn’t drive 200 miles to walk up a mountain right now, I think that goes without saying given everything highlighted on the news currently.
But if I lived in Threlkeld for example, on a day like today I would go for a stroll up to Scales Tarn without a second thought. With all the right kit and due diligence of course and on my own whilst observing distancing.2 -
If you look at the MRT incident's list quite a few call outs are not on the mountains but lake shore paths and low level walks, any where that traditional ambulances can't get to.

yes the same for me. I went for a long walk this afternoon around the estates from home, thinking about the lakes. The closest I came to that was one road was called Striding Edge.
