Morris Leisure refund policy

Prior to the Corona virus breaking out we booked 3 nights with Morris Leisure. We are now self isolating because of our ages and we both have underlying medical conditions. We contacted ML to cancel our booking only to be told we can only have 2/3rds of our deposit back and they are keeping the rest as a admin fee. Our holiday with ML is 8 days away so we're not cancelling at the very last minute.

I've just seen the news and virtually every single travel operator are offering full refunds to their customers which is in stark contrast to Morris Leisures policy. We are semi retired and tour a lot and when thus mess clears up we will tour again. If Morris Leisure insist on keeping some of our deposit we will not ever tour with them again. 

What do people think about ML's policy?

    Could you not have changed the booking for a later date?

    Not sure how long they ask for cancellation as never used them, the other club its 31 days notice. 

    It does seem harsh given the current situation but if its in their t&c's i guess they have the right.

    The other club is also sort of sticking to their conditions, no refund if cancelling within the 31 day period, but allowed to amend the booking(s) up to the end of the year.

    No allowances being made for the government's request to not travel unnecessarily, or for the over 70s to social distance.

    I have no problem with it. The place is available and not to go is your decision

    We could transfer to later in the year but we won't be touring again for the foreseeable future. We do have 2 club sites both in Wales which we are happy to use sooner than later because they are fairly isolated and we think it'll be safe there.

    Two ways of looking at that - if ML sites are still open they'll have staff to pay and other overheads regarding facilities so you've done well to get 2/3 of your money back at little over a week's notice. If they had decided to close the site then I think you could have expected a full refund.  I wouldn't be complaining under the circumstances.  But it does show the advantage to members of the club's much maligned booking system.

    We've been offered no refund at all  by the company we booked a cottage with for May, just the opportunity to amend to a later date (and pay the difference if that works put more expensive).

    Yes EasyT I see your point, but these are unimaginable circumstances. We are not going because the risk to our lives. Sounds dramatic to say that I know but both of us have serious underlying conditions and if we get C19 we are in trouble.

    I think two thirds of the deposit refunded is pretty damn good. 👍🏻

    I'd not complain if I lost three thirds. What price safety, eh?

    I completely understand your reasons for cancelling, FB, but just exactly how much have you lost in cash terms? Surely that's trivial in terms of your health?

    It isnt ML’s fault either. Yes its tough but you try being in business at the moment, its hell out there. They are not a charity.

    Locally I've read that as events are cancelled like gigs in pubs or theatres, they are asking if instead of asking for a refund you consider giving some to the artists who now can't make a living.

    Hard times for so many. Son concerned, as are the directors, of his small company surviving with the likely restrictions.

    I cancelled two pitches with plenty of notice at new year because my dad fell ill, ML offered no refund & I didn’t expect one! 
    I thought it was a nice gesture that they will let us use the deposits at any of their sites within 12 months.

    +1.  Hard times for all now and I would be happy to get 2/3 of a deposit back if the 1/3 might help them be in business next time I wanted to visit, I suspect many, many businesses will not survive this.

    Just done a dummy booking for next week.  They have an offer of 3 nights for the price of 2 (OP had booked 3 nights) and also a discount for being a CAMC member.  Total price prior to both discounts was £92.70, after discount it was £56.40.

    Deposit amount is £30; therefore a refund of 2/3rds is £20.  A loss of £10.

    I'm sorry, but to me losing £10 is a very small price to pay.

    When we had to cancel a few years ago 4 days before the booking, they were very good. As the booking was classed as still part of Easter, the deposit was £10 a night, £100 for our 10 night stay. They saved the deposit on their system for use anytime in the next 12 months, at any of their sites. We used it about 11 months later with no problems. Personally I think £10 admin, for a cash refund,very reasonable. There was no charge for deferring it.

    Like others I don't think £10 is unreasonable. If I am staying on a Club site and decide to leave early, as I did last year because I was unwell, I lost one nights site fees because I couldn't give enough notice. When all this horrible business is over we will hopefully still want to use all these sites so it is important they don't go under. I suspect over the coming months they will be under extreme financial pressure.

    I've just cancelled our booking but deferred our deposit for a booking later in the year. We are still going to go away but to a quiet isolated site in Wales that we have used many times before & we know we will be safe.

    ...yet youre going to two club sites "because they are fairly isolated and we think it'll be safe there."....

    do 'club' customers carry a lesser risk to you than those that frequent ML sites?

    however 'isolated', these are club sites which attract other members and you wont be inside the van all the time, so contact at any of these sites is inevitible, isnt it...

    surely, either vanning in the current situation is OK (for you) or it isnt.

    to post an expression like "the risk to our lives" seems to suggest you think vanning isnt OK.......??
