Recommendations between Malaga and Madrid area

we are planning on beginning the homeward bound leg of our Spanish trip (early summer) from Malaga area heading ultimately back to Bilbao. We plan to stop at Haro for a couple of nights prior to reaching Bilbao, and probably Aranjuez before that.

Option suggestions welcome though for the leg between Malaga and Aranjuez. A first stop at either Cordoba or Granada area is a possibility, but there seems to be a void between either of those two, and Aranjuez. Each is a leg of a little over 200 miles, so doable, but I’d prefer to take things a little more leisurely by splitting that distance.

Anyone got any recommendations for a stop over. We prefer reasonable toilet facilties, and we have a 8m long caravan, but other than that, pretty open. I’ve scanned through Archies but not yet felt I’ve found sufficient info to find a preference. (We don’t normally book ahead)

I can second that. We've stayed there and once saw a TA stay on a pitch fully hitched up for the following day. They didn't even bother with any steadies so should meet your length requirements.

Tbh David I can't remember the entrance way. We had a small 2 berth when we visited last so it probably wouldn't have registered. Glad you remembered though.

Thanks both of you. That’s exactly what I was hoping to find. I missed it on Archie’s.

BTW, our 8m van (well, when we collect it next month) is a SA Adria. Same body length as our current Swift, but with a longer A frame.

Actually, whilst I’m on here, any favourites on the coast either side of Malaga? Reviews seem so varied. One mans meat is another’s poison, I know, but sometimes it’s difficult to imagine they are talking about the same place,

Sorry Ian but the nearest I've been with a caravan is Seville or Cadiz area.

Great suggestion for me also so thanks to all above. I am going down to Manilva in September and scheduling an overnight at Santa Helena. Having never stopped there before I am glad for the above recommendations.

Santa Elena s about 170 miles from Malaga and makes a useful stop over.   If you can afford the extra night, take the drive through the mountains and visit the Cimbarra Falls.    (Drive to Aldeaquemada then take the dirt road to the car park - then walk.)

As a change from stopping at Aranhuez, if you have the time go via Toledo and stop at Camping El Greco - just on the edge of town.   North of Madrid, there's Camping de Miel at La Cabrera (Km 57) or a bit further on Camping Riaza.   You can see descriptions of all these sites on my blog.

    Hi

This site is in a lovely location close to the beach/bars/restaurants but is also the most expensive site in Spain. In the low season 40e a night is on the steep side.

€31 per night - I have the booking confirmation. You are quoting the extra large motorhome pitch prices.

And for stays up to one month the price includes unmetered electricity.

    Unlike most sites in Spain.

    Hi Nutsy

Called in September and that's the price I was quoted after they asked the size ended up the coast at Tropical near Estepona for 18 euros, most sites I visit here in Spain have electricity included in fact I cant think of one that charges unless you stay more then a month mind  I only use ACSI sites or camper stops

    Hi Phil

I was referring to Alicante Imperium at Vila Joyosa when I remarked about electricity. I was there last year, and shocked to find electricity metered from day 1 (only staying for 3 weeks) at extortionate prices. By the time I found out from other brits on site, after about 3 days, I had run up a €50 bill!!!. Purchased a  10KG gas bottle from reception and switched everything except TV to gas. Obtained a suitable "pig tail" connector from a local caravan shop, which I now keep in the van.
