It's normally advisable to use the route suggested by the club as it'll take into account narrow road, steep hills etc

Yep, there are alternatives but the CMC route is definitely a better route via Newby Bridge in my opinion.

It is quite narrow through Coniston village, so advice is to approach from the south.  The road to the site has a few narrow bits, so take extra care on the bends in case something big is coming the other way.

    Hi Senator5

As the others have said we do recommend approaching from the South for the best route. Please note though, from both the South and the North there are some narrow places on the final approach.

It's a beautiful site and I hope you have a great time.

slightly off topic but as I assume you haven't been before look at the site map before you arrive. It is an extensive site but it does slope downwards from the reception area. Pitches 50-69 are on a level part and perhaps easier for a MH to drive in/out (I don't have one but see a lot around this part) but some pitches on the 'roadside' do slope a bit and will require some leveling.

Apart from that a great site and an easy walk (if slightly long) into the village along the lake path.

The route from the south is definitely preferable if towing, and I notice that the OP's avatar says "caravanner". But he/she also says they are in a MH and quite a few make the journey from the site to the village of Coniston so unless it's a huge unit it might be possible to take that option.

Going in from the south has at least one very narrow bit at Blawith but I definitely wouldn't want to come in from the north.  Lovely walk down through the site to the lake shore and across the fields to the village.  Some excellent eateries.  Good bacon butties at the Bluebird Café.

Went last summer and was a serious accident on the main A590 on way back home and all traffic was sent north past Coppice site and what was an hours journey home took 8. Had to go as far as Ambleside then cut across to M6. It was when passing traffic coming other way that gave problems so if road is clear and willing to slow down and give way it is quite easy to do and I was pulling a T/A.
