I can't believe it was back about March 2012 that I joined the Forum. I's scary how the time flies. Sad that we have lost so many from the early days too.

As for newbies repeating oft asked questions, it is due to the absence of a decent indexed FAQ section. I've noticed on other forums that this is often quite a prominent aspect for newcomers to a forum. The wealth of untapped knowledge available could so readily be made more accessible with such a facility.

I don't post much, except  a bit in the General section, as despite caravanning for 44 years I have very little technical expertise and we tend to go to the same few campsites,  and until we retire never get away very much.

    P.S. Farmers never retire.

Yes, I remember that November visit to East Grinstead, David.  I think you, I and Rowena may be the only ones left from that initial meeting.  Before that, I remember your posts on UKCampsite.co.uk.  🙂  As you correctly say, the way people use social media has moved on quite a bit.  Even Facebook is often regarded as being 'not as cool' these days!  Many younger folk tend to use Snapchat, WhatsApp and the like, and I know the Club tend to use Twitter quite a lot.  I've never really been a great user of Twitter, although I do dabble from time to time.

As you say, 8 years on and CT is still with us..... and ther is still a hardcore of members who post regularly.

    ......who remembers the 'stars'....?  laughinglaughinglaughing

    Oh, David DSB   I remember the Stars only too well. I was slowly but steadily progressing thro' the rainbow -- up to "middle ranking red" but passed by Malcolm M as if I was in reverse { OH Malcolm,   where are you now  frown }

The only way to stop the abuse was to ban contentious topics

Yes it used to, but surely the way to control it would be for abusers to have their knuckles rapped. If they then persisted given one more warning then thrown off the forum permanently?

This then would leave lively subjects available for debate.

There simply aren’t enough mods or staff to monitor and deal with the volume of abuse that used to exist and banning people has always happened, as it does to this day.

I’m afraid "lively subjects available for debate" would still deteriorate to an unacceptable level and I think most people would rather forego discussions on certain subjects than see a return to the old ways. There are forums where such subjects can be discussed if you care to seek them out.

Been a tad busy this afternoon but thinking about " Days gone by " I remembered that it will soon be Caravan / Motorhome Holiday time at the  N E C and wondered if many { any undecided ?} of the rest of you still wear, as I do, my MERVE supplied polo or fleece with CT Logo when you're there  ??

Even the most mundane and boring subjects end up in a bun fight ,so a lively subject would last about 3posts surprised

It is interesting to note that this thread is probably the most lively one on this forum.

    Long may it continue.

Or will it be killed off within the next two days or so?

OOOOO yes there is / was -- Merve got this permitted only after protracted negotiations I seem to recall  !!

The CT Logo as used by Merve on his goodies is :--

A red triangular flag like item, with a slender black edging.

A green horse shoe to the Left hand side with the opening upwards and 'CT' in the centre thereof.

Then there is 'Club Together' in the centre to right hand side

the writing is all in white.

Should you get to the NEC show, you might, just might, see Brian wearing his fleece OR should Global warming really kick off, He'll be in his Polo Shirt  both of which are in a beautiful Burgundy Colour wink

That's interesting, never seen this out there or in any official CAMC advertising, products or merchandise. When and where did they sell said items, was it before the 'big' rebrand? From what you describe it sounds/looks like it.

As ABM said, it was Merve's design and the club allowed its use although it wasn’t an official CAMC logo.

Are you okay, ABM? Seem to be shouting a tad! So technically not the official thing then, just allowed! Nothing wrong with that is there?

No need to appear to be then! Don't know if you can recall but many years ago one could buy a range of club badged merchandise but I'm not finding any such things, official or otherwise, on today's website. I wonder why, may be time to reintroduce the like?

Of course it may just be me, all I can find/buy these days are those site plaque things but even these have changed colour in recent years from green to white with the new logo on them.

Not so sure Merve can answer the question about why the club lacks those items which once they offered on sale to their members. He, or others, may have a theory about this mind! Not wanting to purchase myself but may be others would like to do so, what do folk think?

I remember Merve talking about it/them and was interested in buying something but I don't remember them actually being offered for sale - perhaps it was meundecided Would be interested, if the idea was resurrected.

I too have my "CT" garment. However, having gone for the T shirt, it is only evident when the sun is above the yardarm and is often swathed in warmer layers. With hindsight, I should have gone for the fleece.

As discussed before on these hallowed pages, CT is not easy to search, use or upload.  It also suffers from the old-fashioned habit of having Avatars / anonymity.

I, along with many others, now routinely use Facebook.  Love it or hate it - and I know many of you hate it - it's very easy to use, upload photos, get alerts, etc. etc. you can also search the groups and label topics.  A big plus is that you know who you are talking to.

CT will probably live on, just as many old bulletin boards do, with a hard-core of users.  But the vast majority of members wanting to discuss caravan issues, look for sites, post reviews etc. etc are now in FB.  No doubt, something better will come along in due course.
