I would have prefered the whole electrical charging system to have moved over to metering, then if you wanted to top up your EV or toast your feet then you picked up the tab involved.

However, the looming issue with increasing mains rechargable EV take up is the supplies to sites and on site infrastructure is going to be inadequate, obviously some falling over earlier than others.

Therefore there is that wacking great bill to pay to up the sites provisions to accomodate EV recharging.

In these seemingly high £8 for pure EVs charge, IMO little doubt will be a cost recovery element for that provision. It is unsound to claim it is wrong simply because a domestic unit charge is lower.

If everything went to meters, then the increased demand problem will be the same, but then every pitch renter will carry it rather than a bias being placed on those with EVs that cause the need to up the provision. As already said, the metered electrical energy can't be resold at greater than its cost, so recovery can only be by paying for the facility.

It has got to be covered, the choice the club face is do those causing the issue pay or does it lump it on every one renting a pitch on the site. As we don't need it, I am happier those that do pay for it, rather than me pay for their motoring fuel and the infrastructure cost so that they can fuel their EVs. When we aquire one then I accept we should pay not others.

Someone has to pay for all this extra provision and the power taken, who do others feel should pay, users, everyone or the club take in on the chin?

But the national grid as admitted ,were unable to divert supplies as they are are contracted to do (hence the very large compensation claims) because the rest of the grid was under in their words "stress"

They will if get as popular as some "hope" with some sites supplies already stretched at this time of year and with LVs getting more power hungry an EV as some say drawing 10amps as well

The site has set limits. We cannot use more electricity than the Grid can supply. Hence my earlier post.

Hence as I said more tripping of bollards as its members we are dealing with, who still want to add to global warming by heating the sky with large radiant and other heaters in awningssurprised

So without large investment by the "both clubs" upgrading the supplies to the sites and also the site supplies    power outages will get more often and as it seems it will be every ones fault except the membersundecided

Club is possibly just tinkering round the edges of what is likely to be an ongoing culture change in terms of vehicles.

We will happily embrace an EV.............once we know that the electricity is generated cleanly, and once we know just how the Government is going to claw back all the taxation currently gained via petrol and diesel fuels. Most likely scenario probably a tax on road usage, but it could be levied via EV charging points, who knows?🤷‍♀️

We will probably give up touring though, be all about cottages, train tours overseas hopefully. Might dump our old van in a nice spot and use it as a static.🤔

We think we may have about two years (longer hopefully) before we have to seriously consider our leisure time, hence we are doing what we can now cool

Then it will be a matter of useing our previos companies conceptions, and coach tours, and maybe  a small hybrid as "back up"if still ablesurprised

Or as M and go for a holiday park but in Norfolkwink

Long may it continue for you JV, we will keep touring as long as we can, I don’t see an EV as imminent at the moment. Besides, we shall want one that can cope with snow!😁

Bring on metering ocisd, but then you you knew that would be my response. Metering will help keep consumption down because members will just become more careful about how much they use. It might also encourage more use of solar panels which in itself will help keep consumption down because all but the heaviest users will only want EHU to keep the batteries topped up.

Perhaps we will see a migration to the "other lot" as they offer non-EHU pitches and one won't have to subsidise EV owners/ awning- planet heaters.

Note to self: Consider another Solar panel to boost existing setup.

The new electric trains that were supposed to run to Swansea and beyond are now going to have diesel engines as well.......there's Progress for you.

While the  Government finds it so easy to ignore the Climate Change lobby, why should we Caravanners and Motorhomers worry about upgrading our units ?  or perhaps Yes, i have an EV, but it also has a big diesel engine in the boot.....just in case.

Don't  do as I do, do as I say. (even though it is blatant hypocrisy).

Who knows.....but if I was in the market to change my car, at the very least  I would  be looking at a hybrid right now and I suspect many others would do the same. If we were to remain a two car family one of them would definitely be an all EV for local journeys and the other a hybrid for longer trips.

If I replaced our runabout it definitely would not be a hybrid. It does so little mileage that a hybrid would be pointless for us. More likely a 3 or 4 year old petrol with 30,000 on the clock.

...or an immaculate 10 yr old Audi (or similar), 60 mpg, 600 mile range, loads of grunt if you want to tow, plenty of room for 4 and luggage.....cost...peanuts.

also 'recharging' available at thousands of 'charging stations'.

if the club is to upgrade its policy on charging electric vehicles on site, the simplest way is to use meters so that higher level users pay more, those that are thrifty pay less.

as i reported in another thread, the site we are on here has just invested in meters for each of their many pitches, with data being fed back to the office by wifi, just check your bill and pay before leaving.

    simple.

Not sure if that was in response to my post. If so why would I want to eventually replace a small runabout that probably does under 1,500 miles a year presently, is easy to park with a car with grunt and a high battery range?

Only 28mpg solo down to 15mpg towing my elegance 530 so perhaps I will stick to using the Sorento when caravanning !

i wasnt talking about a car with a long battery range....what 10 yr old car EV car has a 600 ml range....are there even any 10 yr old EVs?

no, i meant that there are plenty of older cars that have far superior all round performance at the fraction of the EV prices (especially formthise who tow) and, if replacing a car now, as we only need a runabout that does less than 3k a year why would i (or others) spend a shed load on new tech...when old tech is so good.

adding £8 a night to club site prices (when an electric cost is already included) might seem fair for the extra use, but it makes touring at CC even more expensive....

expensive enough for even 'club only' customers to have a long hard think?

Prices will come down BB as more and more manufacturers enter the market. Who knows what incentives the government might introduce to increase take up even further and will vehicle manufactureres continue to produce vehicles that are only ICE driven ?

    Pretty much my view.

It is not £8 a night as the charge is only for days when onsite charging is required. Presumably those using EVs will get used to finding alternative charging on their journeys. It won't be costing me £8 a night and I have yet to see an EV towing onto a UK site

expensive enough for even 'club only' customers to have a long hard think?

I doubt it makes any difference as I doubt that they have EVs.

It's not just about ICE v EV though. It's the manufacturing footprint that also adds to the CO2. Consider the environmental impact of junking the current vehicle population within the next ten years.
