I've just read this comment on a post on a Facebook Group

"Not allowed to charge straight from bollard. If you charge from caravan you are now expected to pay £2 per charge for hybrid and £8 per charge for full electric on all CAMC sites. Charges came in this month."

Is it correct?

Her profile says she's a warden for the club so I presume she's got that information from an 'official source'.

Enforcement difficulties were my first thought too.

The link no longer seems to work.

I cannot see these charges applying to sites without EV charge points. Unless changes are made to pitch supplies.

The information for Cayton refurb does mention the provision of some pitches with EV charge points however.

EasyT the refurbs at Clayton include EV charge points but these are separate, not on pitches.

I can only get the basic link on Goldie's post as I don't do FB and the group is private.. The idea doesn't quite make sense as charging times and batteries vary and so do costs.

The information is correct there is an article in the Feb magazine it commences on 1st March , and will rely on members Honesty advising the site staff of their charging requirements,  charges are correct as per £ 2 for Hybrid

    £8 for full EV

But must not be direct from the bollard only via LV sockets

As per site staffs comments today  "will it work?" unless we are going to keep looking for who should and who should not be charging it will get more of a problem "if" more come on sites

My batteries on my differing gadgets vary in charging times & have different batteries yet I can ‘plug & go’ without a 2nd thought they discontinue the charging themselves🤷🏻‍♂️. I doubt if EV’s will be made difficult to charge. BP are getting involved in a really big way, it’ll be easy guaranteed👍🏻

So it could end up as £112 for fourteen nights even if a vehicle is only partially charged? This still doesn't make sense....I'll have to read the article when it arrives. smile

I understand the info that has been given to site staff also does not make for an easy read but they understand that it will only be charged to members when and if they "advise" they will be charging their vehicle not for the days they are on site, and it is for 24hrs but from when to whensurprised

£8 is more than a full motorway charge but most only partially charge. At home we might do it on 50% so unless pitches are metered for all users this doesn't add up.

There are several sites already on the club network that have separate EV charging facilities that i understand at the moment are operated with a token obtained from the site office

Recently one of the CL owners mentioned, I think, 22p per KW as the cost of supplying power. If the CC is on a similar rate £8 would allow for charging at the full 16 amps for 9.5 hours. Plus of course you are also paying for electric on your pitch fee.🤔

Thank you for the replies. I only posted it as I wondered if I had missed reading something from the CAMC. It’s highly unlikely we will ever need to charge a car as we will be sticking with our “gas guzzling” Discovery.

But I can see that it may become an extra administrative burden for the wardens.

I am a little confused with these charges, you only have to look at the difference pitch fees for a non electric and electric, there is quite a margin.

A PHEV like the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV use less than 10 kWh to charge from empty to full, o are they charging 20 pence a kWh. The VW Passat and Golf GTE has a smaller battery?

I thought you were not allowed to make a profit reselling electricity?

22p sems a very high rate per KW.

is this a joke ? how are the wardens going to police this, not that i have an ev but what happens if you just want a quick top up before you go out for the day, are you going to pay £8?, as i said before, what is to stop you doing this under the cover of darkness, rely on members Honesty, i dont think so, i find this really hard to believe, will only lead to more curtain twitching, owners of EV's should pay for charging but not like this.

You can get some idea of costs from sites like this one, where you can also see the range of differences in chargers and batteries etc.

But while you are charging your PHEV or EV you are very limited on your site electric use.

If you are on a 16 amp bollard charging a PHEV you need 10 amp to start the charging process, then a consistent 6 amp for 5 hour to charge?

so the club ban plugging directly into the bollard because they are afraid this would lead to more trip outs at the bollard, far better to risk you blowing the electrics on your caravan or MH , not an expert but can see some serious H&S issues arising out of all of this, e.g. people fiddling about in the dark trying to restore power when all around is very wet from recent rain yell, lets hope we dont get many ev's on site, or the whole site could be cast into darkness.

6amp charging to PHEV is not a problem on a 16amp site. Often come across 10 amp sites on our travels and that is adequate to run all necessary caravan systems
