arrived last night at Poole ferry port for this mornings crossing.....only van there....NEVER been deserted like that before......

checked BF website and, despite a few cancellations for french action tomorrow, no problem today.....so check if you're heading for St Malo

had a word with lovely BF lady this morning and they only have 50 vehicles on the trip today, so very quiet.

safe travelling and check for issues on 9th.

Ha! nice one Husky. Stick of bread, perhaps or case of Tempranillo.

...just passed through a foggy section for first few miles but has now cleared and the sun is out.

funny how seeing that yellow ball makes everything feel so much better.

David, its Cherbourg. get in 13:45 french time and then an afternoon stint taking us just past Nantes.

tomorrow a long drive to Irun (just past Urrugne) and then across the Pyrenees on Friday via Pamplona, Zaragosa and down to Benicassim.

might arrive in time for a sundownerwink

    not envious at all.

I am. Didn't manage a Continental trip last year and looks like it will be the same this year. Until I have all the appointments sorted I am finding it difficult to find a slot long enough to justify the crossing to far away places.

yes, i checked that page this morning, safe in the knowledge that, in the event of any disruption on our trip, the Club would have contacted mewink

having said that, i did post this thread as it seemed mighty strange not to see a single van on the dock on our 10:30pm arrival....

a couple of cars/vans did arrive around 6:30 this morning which was when i confirmed our departure with the young lady.

at the end of the day, we could have had a day or two on the south coast....smile...so not too dangerous.

Thanks BB, we have managed to squeeze a few nights in Rome followed by a med cruise before Lanzarote laughing then 3 weeks after that we are off to Spain for 9 weeks with the van. Look forward to hearing about your travels.

    Enjoy

Its a real pain having to work around appointments when planning a longer trip. OH is waiting for 1 appointment but it could take months so we are just going for it and hope we can then arrange it around us.  Dentist, hairdresser and other various ones are not so bad but hospital appointments can be a pain.

Hope you manage away in the UK and probably near continent this year so as not to miss out.

    Apologies for the off topic.

'BB', can I ask if your route into Spain and onwards is also acceptable for caravanners? Just toying with the idea of Spain this year, but the Murcia area.

i have done that route with caravan, 7.3m coachman and Sorento no problems, did not like Zaragosa municipal site, very expensive even for 1 night and not very clean. Alternative route is Irun - Burgos - Aranjuez then cut down into Murcia. Last year we went Poole - Cherbourg, this year Portsmouth Caen, we only live 30 minutes from Portsmouth ferry, Poole is ok and you can pitch up in the port legally, they have a shower block but never used it, and a cafe that does mean bacon butties in the morning.

i would say it certainly wasOK for caravanners...

the route from Cherbourg then Rennes, Nantes and to Irun, is free (or toll) motorway/dual carriageway all the way, however we stop in a aire/car park at Irun so no good for a caravan (although we had two from the travellng fraternity there last year...

camping Larouletta at Urrugne is regularly sed by CT ers...

from there the N121 is single carriageway to Pamplona and not too steep, then free dual carriageway to Zaragosa and then the free A23 motorway all the way to Sagunt and Benicassim.

we do this last stint in a day as could be bothered with Zaragosa site, stayed once and didnt like it much.

for MH ers there are other aires available to nreak the trip but not much in the way of sites in the winter.
