I suppose it saves the expats having to drive 300 miles to Morrisons in Gibraltar - which has been there for 25 years. They stock Yorkshire tea .

    nor us, David.

in Benicassim (our first stop this coming week) we have a Mercadonna (two in fact), Lidl, Consum and various other small supermarkets, so plenty of great choice already.

would the Spanish be interested in Tesco?....i doubt it....

I saw this in the local paper a couple of months ago and at the time thought it a bit strange that Tesco picked Mazarron a small town in the middle of nowhere where the Brits that do live there are in out lying areas, it could be that Iceland have the monopoly in the Costas where most Brits live. Near us there are three Iceland's within a 30 minute drive and they now sell Waitrose products which is great if you want Marmite/Branston and like BB says no Spanish would be interested in what Tesco sell.

As said, Mazarron seems a strange choice. I'd have thought Torrevieja, Santa Pola or even Benidorm would have been better.

    UPDATE

Just been talking to the wife about this and she says its not Tesco at all but the company who owns Iceland opening a new venture by buying Tesco products and selling them through their new stores like they do with Waitrose and I have to say the picture does look remarkably like our local Iceland and the wife is usually right when it comes to shopping and most things actually.

thanks for update, my daughter lives and works in Spain and as we will be in Mazarron mid April for a couple of months with the caravan she sent me the article from the local press. We find groceries etc in Spain to be quite cheap but more competition is always welcome if it helps keep the prices down.
