Italian Question

Can those of you who have toured Italy tell me if you can gain access onto a site pitch before the 12-3pm siesta period. Have had no trouble with other sites in Europe, just wondering if Italy is the same ?.

We have toured quite a bit in Italy but must admit it would be very unusual for us to arrive at a site so early. We have arrived at site during the lunchtime closure, although not usually as long as you mention, and just had to wait. Are there particular sites you have in mind?

We visit Italy quite a lot but don’t recall ever being able to reach a site before lunch. Most areas are quite laid back so it shouldn’t be a problem but certain regions can get very busy at particular times of the year so may have restrictions. A quick look on the web site should give any specific arrival and departure times.

The OP ask's can you arrive before the siesta time.  The short answer is yes.  We've never had a problem arriving between 9 and 12

Thanks Oneputt, we will be there end of April, May and June, last year in Hungary and Romania we sometimes arrived well before 12 and had no problems, maybe because there were not many or even no others pitched.

Some Siesta periods run to 4pm, we`ve never had a problem prior to 12pm, the Italians take their siesta`s to the extreme on some sites where any noise whatsoever will be greeted with disdain, from our experience the more international sites don`t take it so seriously and movement is allowed.

Its many years since we holidayed in Italy, at that time it certainly was ok to arrive before siesta but not during it, although you just queued outside until they opened up again.

As said some sites it was 3pm other 4pm, nice to hear that nowadays its not so hard and fast. We are not keen on sites that close for such a long time as we often are looking to arrive around 2pm when touring. We don't travel so far now between sites these days, not after the first couple of days that is.

I’ve never had a problem accessing sites in Italy before the siesta period. However, during August (and during Pfingsten - Whitsun) when many of the popular sites are full, your pitch, even if pre-booked, may not be available until after the siesta period. On the site where we go regularly access into the site is available anytime from 8.00am until 10.00pm for new arrivals (apart from during the siesta period) but you may have to wait on an internal road for a pitch to become available. At other times when the site is not full I’m sure you’ll not have a problem.
