We make very little use of CMC offers. Maybe a two for one somewhere every other year. We do typically visit 4 or 5 RSPB sites during a year but then we are members anyway.
It would be a no brainer for us to be members though as, apart from providing a network of sites of a standard that I like, to assist with my touring route choices (whether facility or non-facility). I also use one particular CC site for a 2 week December break over Christmas. Usually we stay on this site because it is exactly where we wish to be and better than the nearest alternative. So if I wished to use that site for our typical 15 night break there I would need to be a member

No you didn't actually get your fees back, all you did was save the cost of the fees on something you purchased. Not the same thing.

No I disagree. £50 odd went out, more than that came back. Hence the membership fee was paid for. Simple really.

But that £50 odd could just as easily have been saved if you'd use one of your other membership cards such as NT, EH, RSPB etc. so you could have said that they paid your membership fees to one of them.

The point is still that the "club" are increasing the charges by more than inflation.
What is the point of the club, if it is not to benefit the members of that club?
This is a club which is not run for the benefit of the members.
While I'm likely to stay (ferry discount) it is only worth the saving if I take 2 crossings per year, as the first crossing saving only matches the membership saving. And even then, Stenaline can be much cheaper if you book direct while they have offers runnning.
I'm not a fan of the club.

Of course one could use another discount card, I think the scout leaders Cotswold discount is a higher % than the club
But picking on one discount is not really a true reflection, you have to look at the whole package.
Someone says that Stena have discounts, (Black Friday 25%) but if you check an overnight crossing they match the clubs price then you have to add your cabin, so the Stena price is up to £50/£60 (depending on cabin chosen) more expensive.
I spent more nights on club site this year than previous years, if I had not been a member that would have been another nearly £200. Only takes 5 nights on a club site to save the membership fee. CL's are for club members only so I wouldn't have been able to utilise them for the 50+ nights we used them. For me the benefits far outweigh the cost of the membership.
When I no longer benefit I will cut loose from the club, but at the moment I'm not going to cut off my nose......etc.
It's not whether I'm a fan of the club or not, for me it's about the what value I get from being a member
If I didn't participate in what the club had to offer it would be plain lunacy to continue to paying a membership fee

but if folk werent members of CC they wouldn't stay on CC sites, would they?
I wouldn't generalise as thats not necessarily true. I've met people on sites that aren't members, Dutch couple this year, but haven't carried out a survey. I've also met up with family members who aren't club members.
Stayed at a couple of commercials and not intending to stay at any others, by and large wasn't impressed. Clubs CL stock does me very well.
Why would I spend even more membership money on the other club if this one meets most of my requirements.

It seems to suit the increasing majority of members who are filling most club sites for the longer periods, that ever increasing number of sites are open, and as some complain that they can never get on sites as they are always full,so it seems the annual membership fee saving £12 a night as well as most other benifits that membership brings is well worth it

good post, agree with all of it.

...by more than inflation
An interesting phrase, often used by IanH who predicted a good few years ago that the club would be out of business by now due to the inflation busting prices rises, yet here we are )
Anyway why should the club, or indeed any leisure organisation, keep its price rises at or below inflation? I just don't understand. If the club isn't in one's budget then sorry but buy something else, It is not a a charity to enable cheaper holidays for all? One day it might be too expensive for me, but that's life and I won't complain.
I could understand your point if we were talking about petrol or travel prices (I have to go to work...) or food, gas, electric.. but we are talking about joining a club. You simply don't have to join if you don't want to, if it's not worth it or giving you any benefit?

As a rule, I tend not to join any subscription required Club or other Institutions that don’t give me benefits, or meet my interests. It’s just one of those common sense decisions that have to be made in terms of financial management.........
😂

Forkhandles, yours is a basic but crucial mistake. Don’t think of it as a Club, but as a multi million pound holiday business provider. It remains a quite unusual business structure, and there are still Club like elements, but it’s prime function is now to provide holidays in a variety of ways, in a variety of locations, with a variety of underpinning services. Hopefully generating profits, that go towards maintaining and providing locations and services.😁

My posts were not contentious and certainly didn’t warrant your rather rude description, SB. Yours is another candidate for deletion, I imagine.

I think HQ need to sort this out, because I can now see most of the “content removed” posts. It’s a shambles...........

Refresh the page and they go. Revisit and they’re back.

Yup.......still it’s fun doing multiple “reports”😂
Oo, a variation.......disappearing likes now!
Can you imagine the flack if the bookings section was like this........York..I’m in.....I’m out again.....I’m in....I’m booked in twice now!🤣🤪
And all while paying a higher membership fee (just to stay on topic😇)
Page 10 is the culprit, that’s where it starts to go haywire. It’s like a good pudding, if you start to remove some of the key ingredients, it all falls apart.....
