Whilst it serves my purpose HD I probably would, certainly until the membership is more than the benefit

Where we live the majority of our neighbours are over 65 years but only us and one other have LVs,and as said to me by an LV salesman the majority of purchases are now being made via a draw down on pension pots or equity release

How did you make that leap of illogic?

Gas for heating is a necessity, joining the club isn't. That's all I said. How you made that statement into I'll pay anything is puzzling at best.

As I said joining the club hasn't cost me anything, I've actually made money on it.

I wonder how the salesman knows that? I’m blowed if I’d tell a salesman where my money came from. 🤔

And that really is it. Just like everything else you buy for pleasure, no matter what it is, you (one) decides if it's worth the benefit that it gives you. If it does you buy, if not you don't, pure and simple.

No idea why those that do think it is worth it should be a topic for jokes?

dead easy I got £1000 in one go (that's 18.5 years at today's rate) two years and last years fee was paid back twice over by the club, in fact got the whole year's fee back in one go at Cotswold Outdoor once.  It's available to you too smile

well I made sure that the £1000 (it was in fact for accessories) was only mentioned and given after I had agreed the price and the deal, so I actually got over £4000 off and then the extra £1000 on top of that. I used it to get a factory fitted tow bar and full electrics and other stuff which I would have had to buy anyway.

but it's a leap of imagination to say it alone covers membership fees for many

I really don't where you got that from in your haste David, but I never said that, I only posted what happened to me and it is indeed true for me that the cost of membership has cost me nothing and I'm still in credit. How much do you save which your membership on ferries and other stuff with travelling over there? Is it equal to the £50+ fee? I have no idea but I hope so. You posted yesterday about 25% off a ferry booking what would that be in real terms if someone did book under those conditions?

As for those that don't darken those places and the mountains I feel sorry for them! I don't darken a ferry with a car and I'm sure you feel sorry for me as wellsmile

That’s ok if you shop at Cotswold out doors. Plus Cotswold give a discount to lots of other organisations Ramblers and defence services discount being 2.

Thanks David I am interested, (btw I see your earlier post was Deleted User as well sadly)

So again another example where the club's membership pays for itself, assuming you, or one, was going to book a crossing anyway.

I wonder why one Club only charges £38p.a., an increase of £1 over the year and CMC increases it by £2 to £54 That is quite a difference for the same service.

For the last 3 years it has gone up £2 each year. If you are an old member and your renewal is due before the end of December, renew before the date it goes up and you will save the £2

and I agree, but I'm using the money I'm saving to offset (and make a profit on the club's membership fee). That is a fact.

Peedee, it's now £46 for the "printed" C&CC membership and £40 for the digital membership.

The CAMC increase works out at 0.16 per month  (you can add extra sixes if you want to get it to the absolute correct amount. wink

Other than that I don't know how either club works out the costing but being a member does save on overall costs with both.

is it? I mean is it the same service? Apart from the disparity in site standard (which I know is subjective) there may be more going on behind the scenes as to what overheads, and level of service... they both provide?

Anyway aren't CAMC members are richer so it doesn't matter wink

I know I can recoup my membership with one over there trip.

Ferry Harwich - HoH 2 May 2020 overnight

    Club price £286.70

Stena (Black Friday 25% discount) £344.60)

    Direct Ferries - £348.00

    Saving with the club £61.30

Booking with the club is therefore a no brainer

But the fact is you don’t have to pay to be in the CMC for the saving, so in real terms your CMC membership is not giving you any saving at Cotswold. As I said they give the discount to anyone.

That’s fine DT, so I will give up my club membership to save a few quid and then pay an extra £12/night to stay on club sites which this year would have cost me close to £200.00 plus couldn’t stay on CL’s and paid £60 a trip more (one way) to travel over there, don’t think I would save much giving up membership

Our National Trust membership went up, as did our English Heritage, also the wine we regularly buy. None are essential but we find them good value. As is the CAMC membership and the CCC one we have recently taken out. Just like the NT and EH they save me a substantial sum on the entry charge.😀

Whether somebody considers CC membership as being of value really depends on whether they wish to use the club sites or not. For me it is in order to access their site Network. But then I am generally happy with CC sites and they typically provide around 60% of our touring site stops.

That's a good point, Steve. We more than make up our NT membership fees in car parking charges alone down in Cornwall! smile

Although no longer members of CAMC, last year we more than made up our membership fees in buying clothing from Mountain Warehouse and visits to attractions like Lost Gardens of Heligan  (2 for 1) and, of course, we were able to stay at many lovely CLs during the year.

If folk don't think the club offers good value the answer is in their own hands - don't rejoin. If folk are happy to pay, that's entirely their choice and any suggestion that means they'd pay "whatever" is ridiculous (IMHO) .  smile

I appreciate not all members would use every club offer available...but the ones we used this year more than paid for our membership...eg:- last week at Chatsworth , an excellent meal at the local Wheatsheaf Pub -20% off final bill on production of club membership card (used twice in week), RSPB savings (over year) £30..Cotswold (£25) and Blacks (£25)..plus a couple of 'two for one' ...

Similar savings apply with our sister club.
