Dog friendly Spain
Hi all, we are planning a trip to Spain from mid March to mid May. We want to be around the Valencia / Murcia region. Would be obliged if anyone could recommend a dog friendly site that actually has somewhere to walk from the site, we only need a mile or so because our dog is 12yrs old
Thank You

firstly let me say Spain is not very dog friendly especially when it comes to beaches, from April thru September apparently there are only 50 dog friendly beaches in the whole of Spain. You did not say what type of walk you were looking for but for a good beach site that is dog friendly you probably cannot get any better than Camping BolNuevo, even if you dont go onto the actual beach there is a good promenade with a couple of good tavernas. The beach/promenade are immediatly outside the side gate to the caravan park, it is a big site with lots of long term campers, but March - May is normally much more quite. Look up Puerto de Mazarron, it is approx 1 hour from Alicante.

I don’t own a dog, but stayed at a nice site just south of Valencia in June this year - Camping Devesa Gardens Resort. There were dogs there so I assume it’s dog friendly. ACSI no. 2902. It’s surrounded by the Albefura National Park and has loads of walks including canal side to the largest lake in Spain. Across the road, you can walk directly to a fairly wild beach through the nature reserve. It’s a great location for outdoor types and cyclists. Bus stop outside main gate directly to Valencia which is lovely city. Local boat tours on the lagoon and visits to the rice paddies which you don’t see every day. The site isn’t in a built up area, but is fairly self contained e.g. shops, restaurant etc. You couldn’t describe it as a quiet, small site (which we tend to go for) but I liked it a lot.

I've taken a dog to Spain many a time, I've even kenneled one there while I popped over to Morocco. It is mainly town beaches that have dog bans not that any one takes any notice so I wouldn't worry about it too much! Bonterra Park is ok, there is direct access to the cycleway from the back gate. Marjal Guardamar has a traffic free long lane leading to the beach where I have taken my dog before. Those are just two off the top of my head.

Hi
You wont have a problem with the dog because Spain is very dog friendly in fact you can hear them barking all night most nights, sorry poor joke but if you lived here you would know what I mean.
Seriously all sites are dog friendly can't think of any I've been on that aren't and all with somewhere to walk the dog, Valencia and Murcia is a very large area and if I was you i'd invest in the ACSI card which lists about 100 sites in those provinces which are all good sites and for about 20 euros a night, also note you have a motorhome because there is a lot of private camper stops popping up everywhere and even cheaper and all allow dogs. Someone earlier mentioned Alcossebre there is now a brand new camper stop in the town which is excellent value at 10 euros plus electricity/wifi, swimming pool and bar. You have picked the best time to visit this area because most Brits have gone home so plenty of space.
Enjoy

Kiko Park allows dogs, as do most campsites in Spain. The beach has a no dogs policy but dogs are tolerated.
Playa de Mazarron is a site on the beach and there is a dedicated dog beach.
The sandy beach at Alcossebre is definitely no dogs and it is policed. The stony beach by Tropicana is also no dogs but further along to the right, you would probably be okay. An English woman with a poodle, on the beach at Tropicana, was soundly told off by a policeman last year.

The Aire at Alcossebre gets very busy, with people waiting to take the spaces. The pitches are quite tight. We had a look but didn’t stay. There’s absolutely nowhere to walk a dog from there.
We like the free Aire at El Grau/Grao, overlooking the beach. There is a dedicated dog beach there, out of season. There are also lovely cycle paths, bars, restaurants and shops close by and the marina is great for a potter.

If you or others are arriving by ferry at Santander please be aware that two of the closest campsites to the ferryport - camping Virgen del Mar and Camping Cabo Mayor - both have a no dogs rule.

The beaches change with the weather! There have been a number of storms along that coast and the sand gets washed away. Your photos may well show sand but it’s not there now!
We quite like Tropicana and the town of Alcossebre. However, the amount of dog mess lining the lane outside the campsite this time was gross. It’s really put me off going there again.

This is the web site for the new Camper stop, we where there in August and they were still building the bar/restaurant but it looks like one we will use a lot next summer.

Thanks and I have book marked it. In the past Play Tropicano and Alcossebre has been a no no for us, too many low trees on the campsite and not a great deal of space to manouvre, same with Camping Eden and to a lesser extent Bonterra. Bring on more camper stops like this.

We like Camping Eden at Peniscola - we don't book, just turn up with an ACSI card - and can cycle to Benicarlo from there.
do like this site, but be warned, they rent out the restaurant facilities /function room to the general public for things like weddings, when we were there early this year some very loud music was still to be heard at 0400 hrs followed by losts of car doors slamming, best not to get a pitch too close to the pool

Too right. The number of well established unoccupied vans when you arrive mid-week is a red flag for us.

Has anyone stayed on or been around camping Azahar near Benacassim?

Read the hard hitting reviews for Camping Azahar on UKCampsite, and in many languages with review scores on Trip Advisor. They are not encouraging.

We too have benefited from the kindness and generosity of some Spanish, like the weekenders who left a largely unused sack of charcoal on our pitch when they left. However they keep different hours to us and its their country so we try to understand while keeping our distance but its still better than lawnmowers or leaf blowings
Agreed, they’re just like most folks, mostly good, but thoughts of bonhomie at 2am when the extended family of 10 next door are in full-on party mode can wear thin.
Useful spanish phrase..... ¿Me prestas tu soplador de hojas?
