Sorry, no experience of sites in Copenhagen, but definitely worth a visit by whatever means you choose. I’m sure that Denmark has good transport links, so visits by public transport from sites further afield or even from nearby Malmo in Sweden are practical? Copenhagen is quite a compact place, so won’t take you an eternity to cover the highlights. I’ve always fancied doing a Scandinavian trip exploring Jutland and places like Aarhus - hopefully I’ll happen sometime.

We have been to Denmark a few times, mainly passing through on our way to Norway, but also did a tour there for a few weeks. We have visited Copenhagen itself 3 times, twice we stayed further out and drove in, the last time we used Camping Absalon, from where you can walk to a station and take a train into the centre.
It was several years back, but I seem to remember they were constructing some dedicated MH pitches near the entrance. Facilities and pitches were fine, mainly grass if I remember correctly, but I believe it is quite expensive, we were using Camping Cheques.
The other thing I remember is that they had a long lunch time closing, so best to check on that if you intend to go there.

WTG when I visited Copenhagen in our motorhome we stayed at Charlottenlund Fort campsite. Its a short walk to the nearest bus stop and busses are frequent. Its in a lovely area and very popular so if you do decided to use this site I would book your stay.

Looking at the various websites, it does not seem that expensive on sites in Denmark these days compared to CAMC sites, but then we are used to ACSI prices abroad! There are quite a few ACSI card sites in Denmark.
We like both Denmark and Sweden, but have pretty much ruled out taking the van to the north of Norway (my home place) again, should we actually get abroad again, due to grandparent duties, as it is a long way and much too expensive on a UK pension!

We Scandinavians are all supposed to understand each other, but apparently, according to a radio programme we heard last time we were there, the young people from different countries prefer to communicate in English!
Finland is a case apart, though many Finns do speak Swedish. I remember the first time we were there, in 1980, we had a puncture on the caravan ( we did have a spare) and a Finnish lorry driver came to our aid with a large jack, he spoke only Finnish. Then we had to source a new tyre and the tyre place only spoke Finnish, and this was in Helsinki, it was quite a challenge!
Easier these days I think.

Regarding site prices, if using ACSI, you may well find that electricity is metered on some sites. Apparently electricity is expensive in Denmark. Also some sites charge for water for dishwashing, and showers.
We prefer to use our own facilities and heat water on gas if that is the case.
They are also keen on "green taxes"

In the original post the suggestion was to possibly do a hotel break instead of motorhome. That’s what we did and it would always be our preference for a city break.
That said, my main recollection of Copenhagen from just a few years back was that it was eye wateringly expensive. I can still remember paying £10 for two coffees plus one fudge brownie at a very modest cafe! Enjoy!

September should be fine, the climate in Denmark is fairly similar to Northern Germany, Scotland and North of England. Days will be shorter of course than in June.
If camping, check site opening dates as some do start closing down in mid September, but I would expect plenty still to be open.
