Planning trip in our motorhome using Portsmouth - Santander crossing & heading to southern Spain. Any info regarding places to overnight en route to Malaga area? Anything we should know?

Only three sailings per week on that route over the winter - two economy and one full fat - so book now if you haven't already done it.

Others will advise on the best of the alternative overland routes across Spain.

A few more details would help posters to give you better info.

When, where and for how long would be useful.

We've travelled from Scotland via Portsmouth to Spain on the Santander crossing in April.

Stops for us in the uk would be around Manchester, then depending on time of ferry spend the night near Portsmouth, if its a late crossing we would just drive to the port that day.

Once in Dpain there are sites near Santander you can spend the night, again time of arrival dependant. Sites at Burgos are popular if arriving during the day or Salamanca. If you arecrossing to the Costas then some stay at the Municipal site at Zaragoza, well placed and open all year, not the cheapest but convenient.

Others woukd chose to go round Madrid, and down to Cordoba.

So many routes to chose from.

If you don't already have it I would recommend getting the Acsi discount card, it comes with books for all europe and you can get an app as well, well worth the cost as you can recoup the cost on just 1 night stop.

Also look at the motohome apps like camper stop etc.

Thanks for replies. Thinking to go at end of January for about 6 weeks, no rush. Any comments on weather conditions at hat time would be appreciated, plus Portsmouth- Santander crossing v Portsmouth- Bilbao. In fact, any ideas at all!

Tammy, are you sure this is open all year as their website seems to indicate opening dates for this year as 15th.April to 14th.October?

We'll be looking to say around there in mid March if it is an all year site.
