Update on 2020 Prices

I was just answering another poster's comments, Kj, suggesting alternatives to look at for anyone unhappy about club prices. I think it's pretty common to talk about other site prices in threads such as this isn't? Surely you've done it yourself often enough?

I was quite surprised at the response given the animosity shown on here towards the payment of electricity consumption. Perhaps the Clubs need not be all that concerned about upsetting the membership with the introduction of payment for consumption and start its introduction.

You will sometimes hear folks saying (something like) “If you can afford a £20,000 caravan, you can afford (high?) site fees”. That may or may not be true, but for me it was about paying up-front for cheap holidays in nice locations. I am of course generalising, but site fees are important, to me. I do like CC sites, I know what to expect, but I can see myself using them less and less because of the cost.

Deposits will be a liability on the balance sheet not asset.
I do not see any logic in your argument, yes they have some cash in the bank for a period of time but apart from that nothing. If you cancel 30 days ahead you get a refund, if like me you never book in advance you never pay a deposit?
Having a deposit does not allow you to plan in advance, we are currently having an election and it may happen that one party or other gets in power and suddenly puts up the minimum wage or does something to raise power prices or whatever, having a deposit will not deflect these increased costs that any company would have to pass on deposit or no deposit.

And why it is so difficult to get a pitch on most club sites during the peak seasons in the UK ,and the latest "gold plated"(,not my words) sites around the country it seems are despite what some say about prices, still dificult to get a pitch on

Blenheim Palace installed a solid gold loo. It lasted around 48 hours before an inspired tealeaf Googled DIY Plumbing and made off with it!

There’s a lot of misinformation or misunderstood information on this thread.
The prices for 2020 have been available for months, as part of the rolling monthly booking system. They don’t come into use until January 2020. So book for a date after 6th January, and you have a very good idea of what you will pay.
The increase to 2020 prices will only apply if you book something after 12th November, and isn’t likely to be that much above what is already on the bookings website pages, it’s just tweaking the final figures to account for recent negotiations. It happened last year, and will continue to occur until, if ever, the Club can pin down exactly its financial forecasting. Difficult as affected by lots of ever changing variables over so many sites. And of course such a variation of visitors and weather conditions. A cold spell will need heaters up more, a warm spell (last February?) will see the heaters turned down. Then there as those that like a sub tropical environment in their caravan (and awning) while others will just put on a jumper! All unknown variables. Staff sickness, unknown variable. Maternity/paternity leave, unknown variable.
Its not an exact science over lots of work places and lots of employees, lots of visitors.

NTH, thanks for the info.
We only use C&MC sites in the low season, in the peak season its CLs or the C&CC. Every year we wonder if its worth the membership even at this time of year the C&CC are cheaper. The sites we have used have been equal to the C&MC in quality.
The differences we have found is that the facilities block isn't heated to the same degree, still warm enough just not the sauna temp we've encountered on some of the C&MC sites.
The showers are push button, so possibly those 2 points save some costs who knows but at anything from £5 - £9 a night difference I know that its enough to make us think twice when looking at sites.
Waste of electricity is not unique to C&MC, CL/CS & C&CC all suffer from it. As has been said there are many folk touring that have not come from a camping background, they live in their vans like they live at home but because the price covers all they will never do anything else.
Something has to give at some point and this club has decided the way they are going to deal with it is to put up prices again.

When I received the price increase email I took a look at booking 9 nights at Bridlington site for October 2020. The cost came out at £306.
The same 9 nights with C&Cc sites at Barnard Castle or Cambridge cost £168.
Like Tammygirl we generally use either CLs or CC&C sites for our 70+ nights away

Riveting. I think it mentions enjoying your touring. We’ve decided to take our loose change piggy bank away with us, don’t want to get caught out by those annoying 10p and 5p increases.🤔🤣

We have found the opposite C&CC sites dearer that C&MC but like you we do not use many and mostly book last minute so with their booking system I think the pricing is a bit more dynamic like a cheapo airline. However we have used their THS & district meetings as these are just turn up stay as long as you like for a reasonable cost. The C&MC district meetings you have to book and stay the whole time as far as I know so not so practical for us.

Why does someone have to come from a camping background, we do not like to be cold at home so do not want to be cold when away, nor do I want a cold shower, we always use our heating on Mix 2 in any case.

I may have posted this before -my age you know! On two of the sites that we visited last year we were overcharged as we had booked before a certain date. I went to reception and got my refunds one eas 65p for a 5 night stay and another less. Both refunds went into a charity box

Came up automatically for us ET. So nothing to put into charity box. But we did purchase a couple of books from reception, and that went to Yorkshire Air Ambulance😁

I think it is the over 60s discount that makes the CCC sites much cheaper than the CAMC sites for we oldies.
TG was mentioning going to Sandringham on another thread and that the CCC site was a good bit cheaper, so I looked at the prices with and without the 60+ discount. For next week the CAMC site worked out just under £1 per night cheaper for 2 adults at the full price, but several £s more than CCC when the discount is taken into account.
There are only a few places where both clubs have sites close to each other, so not always possible to make a real comparison.
As caravanners, we always book ahead, though with a CCC site not more than a few weeks ahead, so I have no idea how their prices work if they have this "dynamic pricing".
Once we have decided where we want to go and when, we check out CAMC sites, and if acceptable might book. But we would also check CCC prices if they have a suitable site, and if the difference is significantly in our favour we might book with them.
However, we look at CLs and CSS too before we decide, so yes, price does matter to us, and I am sure to quite a few others too.

It would appear that all of the non facility sites that were £15 this year are going up to £20 pn next year, unless I'm reading their listings wrong. Obviously this is to ensure that these sites get a lot less occupation and give those at HO a reason for closing them down.....disgraceful.

I don’t think you might be looking hard enough MkNx. Perhaps not on this thread, but ask away under CLs and you could be amazed!👍

Would that be because your CC membership is free, JVB?

I don’t think so Nellie. I checked Bromyard Downs, and I think that is staying at £15. Nunnykirk I think has lease issues, no idea about the huge leap at Cadeside, but it's only got 16 pitches apparently. I haven’t checked them all though.
