Update on 2020 Prices

From the FAQ and the 6 listed sites.
Cadeside is listed as no increase
But if one looks at the 2020 booking price it is £20
This was also quoted at the site last week
The 2019 price is £15 one of the no facilities sites.
Club says Slight increases but this 33% this is slight to me

When i was looking to change my energy supplier the other day i was told energy price's had dropped slightly this year so i am confused as to why the prices had to go up. We have just had 7 nights in a cottage for 3 adults in Wales for £340 at this rate it will be cheaper to sell the caravan and rent a cottage a few times a year.Maybe time to think about giving up the club and joining another.

And would jack up prices for everyone else to compensate. I don’t want younger folk with families subsidising my leisure activity.
12.33 cos I’m very special 😛

The whole concept of caravanning for me is about cost. I can take my dog (at no extra cost on club sites) and have a reasonably priced holiday.
This statement is getting less true especially on club sites and taking into account depreciation and running costs.
I will be changing to the Camping and Caravanning club to try it for myself. It might be better, it might not, but at least I will know and I hardly lose anything by trying another club as there is no advantage in loyalty.
Personally I feel the Caravan Club pricing is far too complex. I also have to question why there is unmetered electricity and expensive to maintain facilities such as shower blocks and pot wash when every van from the last 20 yrs plus has these facilities. Yes, I know there are the stalwarts that walk up to the shower block clutching their wash bag but is this out of I've paid so I am using it, or I'm afraid my van will get damp or I don't like emptying the elsan?

Not ‘every van’ at all.
There are numerous non-facility sites out there if that’s what you want and much cheaper than full blown club sites.

THe reason for unmetered electric is because that is pretty standard in UK sites.
I am happy to use non facility or facility sites but, if I have paid for a facility site I don't want to clean my own shower
The reason that there are expensive to maintain facilities is, I suppose, that many won't use non facility sites

My point is that I think you are wrong. But I tell you what in common with most other internet forum's this one is inhabited with know it alls who are always there ready with a put down.
I won't bother with this forum again and I won't be renewing my membership as stated above.

I think that depends on your definition of "sites". There are plenty of basic CLs and non facility sites out there if, as you imply, you're happy to use your own facilities. But remember that not "every" van/MH/campervan has those facilities.
Regarding price, what would you say is an acceptable price? For £20 a night, say, you could have a very wide choice of CLs with facilities every bit as good as club sites - or you could look at the "small private sites" thread for even more choice.
Club prices are only "unacceptable" if you choose to pay them even if you think they're not good value!.

I’m not sure what the ratio has to do with it. As long as there are vans without facilities, there is a need to provide facility blocks of some description. My own van has a shower but I doubt anyone bulkier than a super model could use it.
As has been said, check out CLs and similar. There’s something to suit everyone. 👍🏻
PS. I count that as advice, not a put down.

The site cost of a holiday pales into insignificance when one considers the depreciation on a new Caravan or MH. We bought a new MH in March and even with the significant number of nights we have achieved, the Site Night cost must be eyewatering. Now we intend to keep our acquisition for a good number of years, so the costs will balance out. However, a fair number change every few years, always after the latest model. If they can afford to throw away thousands in this manner, I not sure that this mid season rise is going to phase them.
That apart, although I am happy to use our facilities when others are not available, I do like a nice long hot shower.😀

It looks to me from the FAQ that the club is increasing prices almost immediately for off peak, the FAQ IS not well written to be obscure I think. Maybe the club is in trouble financially with commitments already made? Price increases for 20120 should start in 2020 not 2019!
The club says its investing £10.5 m on club sites yet it wants more? Do the sites mentioned really need all that money spending on them, a good question that I suspect will not be answered.
I have been a member since 1975 and the club is certainly not the same club as when I joined, particular over the last ten years it's become very much a huge money making business. True, it has to be run proffessionly and business like or it will fold, but I think this price increase is another case of, and I use the phrase "raise the bus fare and empty the bus" rather than "lower the prices and fill the bus".
So what does this "small increase" mean, they don't tell us how much so it's probably not that small. I think this will further deter members from using club sites, particularly in off peak time where price rises will not be welcome. But what ever the members want will not be listened to by the "club" another feature that we have lost over the years.

I haven't either.

We make every effort to predict costs accurately, however during 2019 it has become apparent that the operating costs for 2020 are now expected to be higher than originally forecast.
The largest contributing rises in costs are energy and utility costs, site repairs and maintenance, and The National Living Wage.
Its hard to believe the Club couldn't get it right with the amount of historical data they must have to help predictions. The rises in the living wage are well known, maintenance, even though difficult to predict, must surely be based on well known historical trends, so that leaves an unforecasted jump in energy and utility costs?
When i was looking to change my energy supplier the other day i was told energy price's had dropped slightly this year so i am confused as to why the prices had to go up.
Its probably more to do with customer consumption than anything else.

I'm wondering if the CAMC needs to increase membership numbers. It won't be possible to "fill" the bus even at a reduced rate if there are not enough willing to get on in the first place. So in the present circumstances with rising utilities and wages and slightly less membership we are not going to see reductions.

I very much doubt the Club is in financial difficulty with the reserves of cash and no debt that the Club has. It is more likely concerns over lack of membership growth and falling income.
