Overnight at Cherbourg?

Do they still allow caravans to settle on the dock overnight ready for the early ferry?

I seem to recall there is room by the terminal building, but very few people will have needed to stay overnight because the ferry back to Poole has usually been in an evening, not early in a morning.

But the British government has paid Brittany Ferries for some temporary extra sailings back to UK in the mornings through November 2019  - to cope with the 31st October Brexit, which isn't now happening. Are you booked on one of those sailings?

So maybe  a phone call to Brittany Ferries to confirm available overnight space.

We stayed on the dock at Cherbourg in late June for our morning return. There were about a dozen or so others also staying.

However, there are no early morning sailings shown in the BF timetable beyond November. Of course, this may change in the future with a new Brexit date - whenever it might be !!

If you don’t go for the dockside option, I can recommend La Gallouette at Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, about 20mins easy drive to the Cherbourg ferry. Nice site with enough within walking distance to keep you happily occupied for a couple of days - town/port//islands.

Came back via Cherbourg in September this year on an early morning ferry.  As we drove towards the dock, just past the Esso petrol station there was an area that had at least a dozen vans/MHs parked up

Yes, it’s one of those places that people just pass by en-route to wherever. The town has some fab unfussy seafood restaurants and a lovely deli which is quite famous locally - huge array of interesting food & drink products. The walk out to and around the fortifications of La Hogue is a must for those who are fit enough. Not that far from Utah Beach and museum either.
