I agree, many of the ‘minority’, ‘brigade’, ‘haters’, ‘ranters’ or whatever label may been used here have had those kind of thought processes and that’s why they don’t own a dog. I could see a time in the distant future where maybe a dog could provide companionship, but for now dog ownership would be much too restrictive even if I liked the idea of ownership (which I don’t).

It’s a two way process Bill. Requires huge commitment, empathy, understanding, 100% dedication from all concerned. Time, hours of training, finances, often a change of lifestyle.
And a lot to put up with at times from those who don’t like dogs. 🤔

SB, I don’t use the words ‘Dog haters’ lightly or without history. I’m not a fan of Cats but if anyone ever mentions them I never attack them nor their owners, I accept it is what gives them pleasure & ignore it. CT has a history of using Dogs & Dog ownership as a weapon to attack others with. The fact that the same words/attacks & attitude is displayed on a monthly basis then becomes nasty & hateful, the same people every time do it for fun. It can easily be stopped being a weapon by everyone👍🏻

The trouble with using such terms is working out who is caught within the net that is cast. Is somebody who thinks that there are too many dogs on sites necessarily a 'dog hater'? I don't think so. Is somebody who is frightened of dogs a 'dog hater' - not necessarily they may simply wish to avoid.
I cannot categorise folk easily into two simple divides such as 'dog lovers' or 'dog haters' or even 'dog neutral'.

Yours is a decision I can fully respect AD, and I wish a lot more dog owners had the common sense to make.
Part of the major problem this country has around pet, not just dog, ownership is the lack of thought given to what taking on a living, breathing creature requires. Dogs in particular need a huge commitment in terms of time, exercise, money, love, attention. Get this right, sign up for the life of that dog and the rewards can be tremendous. But if any element isn’t in place, (and sometimes it’s over indulgence rather than neglect), and things can get problematical, not just for the dog or owners, but for those they come into contact with, which might include fellow campers. Dogs need training and socialising from puppyhood, they need a lot of exercise and stimulation so that they don’t get bored. They need good behaviour rewarding and bad behaviour training out. They need sensible restraint in public areas, but the freedom to do doggy things like a mad run around and a sniff and chase when it’s safe to do so. A tired dog is no bother to anyone, they will just happily sleep until the next meal or exercise comes along.
Put the above together and you start to see two sides of one coin. The time and training neglected pooch, who is bored, naughty and vocal. The over indulged (often overweight) but much loved yapper who is never told to shut up, allowed too long a lead because the owner never lets it off because it’s never been recall trained and wants to lunge at every other dog it comes across. (thankfully but not exclusively mainly smaller dogs).
These shouldn’t be confused, but often are, with the rescued dog. Very special indeed, having to learn at a later stage in life often after horrendous neglect, with a dedicated owner trying their best to get things right which can take a very long time and a lot of heart ache.
I would love to see some sort “responsibility” teaching in schools, alongside Parenting teaching. Some generations don’t appear to be learning good practice at home, but if you can break the poor behaviour, lack of commitment and understanding at a younger age, hopefully it will make better pet owners as well as better parents. Good for all concerned.😁

SB, every time someone comes onto this thread to have a good old rant, usually unsubstantiated, the same sticks are wielded time and time again, often but not exclusively by the same individuals, who may or may not be using it to push an agenda. Hence, it’s not rocket science to take the posting figures, and fairly accurately categorise those who are happy that the Club allows dogs, and those who would not be unhappy if they were banned, priced out altogether. This is why Rowena’s opening post says why dog related posts are on this one thread, so the vitriol is confined to one thread. It’s actually nothing like as nasty as things used to be, trust me, and most nowadays will discuss and debate. But you do get the odd ill thought out comment that reignites the nastiness, or someone who wants all dog owners, not just bad ones, penalising.

Hopefully, M7BON, whose comment and review about Carsington Water reignited the debate will have read the latest 2 reviews and accept that, whatever he/she witnessed during their stay, is not generally the case and that therefore the call for draconian measures may be a little premature!

You might use it as “don’t use it as I don’t agree with you” SB, but I certainly don’t, and I think my previous posts demonstrate that I recognise that others have encountered problems with dog owners on sites. I am perfectly willing to accept that others might not like or enjoy being anywhere near a dog as well without thinking they have mental health issues such as that you are trying to ascribe to me.
I possibly have a longer acquaintance of the history of posts around dogs on CT than you, and can clearly recall some very nasty suggestions and opinions from the past. That’s why Rowena has very sensibly decided that one thread will be about dogs and touring, so that any hurtful comments can be quickly curtailed (pun intended😁). On the whole, it has and does work, except that every now and then someone decides to post rather vague information, factually unsubstantiated, and the round robin debate of blanket banning, punishment by pricing out raises itself again. The biggest irony is that those who (on the whole) politely debate such are, by their own admission, not big users or fans of Club Sites anyway!
So no, not paranoia, merely years of reading the same single seagull type posts that the original author’s fail to come back and provide more information about. (If you don’t understand the seagull reference, then I will be happy to politely explain it to you.)

Far from tired I assure you, quite the reverse. I am happy to politely debate dogs and touring until the cows come home, as it’s a specialist subject, have been doing it (without any complaints) for the last thirty six years. Mainly with three dogs in tow😱

Meanwhile, back in the helpful dog world, we might possibly be looking at using Seacroft Cromer for a couple of nights. I see on Site map it shows mention of a dog walk, just wondering how big this is, suitable for a late night, early morning stroll, limping Labrador? He will be out off site with us all day, getting some proper exercise, but we just need something for early morning quickie really. Looking at December, so dark nights.

PS. There’s good flat cliff top walking at Cromer but not much good for a first and last outing from your van.

We’ve never been either, not that keen on Cromer, but Incleborough is closed, that would have been our preference.
