Aren't they already sort of banned.

I thought a lead had to be no longer than 2 metres. I assume if you lock the extendable lead while on site that would be OK.

If they are supposed to be banned then a single non extending lead should be mandatory which would prevent the lazy owners letting the lead "unknowingly " extend. I find it amazing that this disgusting practice is allowed and it just seems the norm 😡

The club can no more ban extending leads than they can ban the type of jacket you wear. The ban is on leads in excess of 2m and, if you have witnessed a breach of this rule, you'd be best following the guidance in the penultimate paragraph of Rowena's OP on what to do if you have a complaint.👍

My thoughts as well Steve although there are always those that don't lock them. Mind you my observations are from last year. Maybe it has improved wink

This dog owner isn’t a fan of extending leads. We have one but use it rarely, and in specific situations.(It’s used where a dog must be on a lead, but in a wide open space with few others around.)

There are a lot of owners who do not use extending leads properly. I once saw a horse and rider brought down at a one day event that saw both horse and rider injured. Nasty.

In capable hands they are useful. Not in capable hands, they are a ruddy menace. Coupled with a not tight enough collar, and it usually ends badly.

I will definitely be contacting HQ however I feel my concern will be given a token consideration and the filed away. The financial implications of a stricter regime as way too dire to implement at this time. Maybe another change of name would be a good move ie Caravan Motorhome and Dog Owners Club.

NB I am a dog lover and have owned three dogs in my life, it's the inconsiderate owners i have a problem with.

We all have issues with the inconsiderate dog owners of this world, Wedgy, but complaining on this forum will make not the slightest iota of difference as it’s unlikely to reach the ears of either the offenders or those in a position to take action.

Far better to do as we're asked and alert the warden at the time of the offence and/or contact the club as Ro outlines.

maybe you could make & sell extendable leads with meter graduations on them & one that will alarm when it's extended further than 2 meters ....

or when you own your own caravan site you can ban extendable leads all together ... 🙄 Until such time I'll abide by the club's rules which state that any 'accident' should be cleaned up ... which is what you say was done!

Inconsiderate can and is applied to many in our society these days for many idiscretions  , that can and do offend the majority of folk ,its is not a simple "ban" that will resolve it

These are NOT accidents but deliberate dog walking on grassed areas where children play. Accidents would happen on the roads or pathways. On my site I would provide all dog owners with a 2 meter length of rope to tether the dog, following violation of the rules the rope would be used in another way 😅

I agree complaints on here will not reach the eyes and ears of anyone who may have the slightest inclination to act upon my comments BUT it's at least a realse of pressure on my part. I will very quickly revert to my passive normality state.

Please don’t get this thread closed, Wedgy. It's about Dogs and Touring - you know what to do about complaints, as does SB.

"Most exclude them to avoid cattle worrying on CLs...."

Whilst I agree with the point that the best way to avoid dogs and dog owners is to look for a dog free site, it is most definitely not the case that "most" (CLs)  exclude them and relatively few CLs (and we've used many over the years) have cattle in close proximity. (In fact I can only remember one with cattle and it was possibly the most dog friendly CL we've stayed on.) smile

,  One point that is often missed when complaning about dogs,   they are very much a cash cow to many businesses as they can result .(according to last statitics i saw) as much as a 25% increase in footfall, when admitted with their ownerssurprised

Our mutt won't go on a road or path ... she needs a bit of grass. I'm not saying she's never done anything other than in a dog walk area, but it's been cleaned up straight after ..... as per the club's rulz & not yours

I seem to be having trouble communicating today.... my point is that where CLs have a ‘no dogs rule’ the reason often given is about avoiding problems with farm animals and not because they don’t dislike dogs per se. The consequence is that they may state ‘no dogs’ but will have their own dogs.  I did not make any claims that “most” CLs exclude dogs, because that clearly would be incorrect. There you go....hope that makes sense.

Yes, that makes more sense! smile

Now ... what about the bit about owner's dogs being mostly well behaved and not barking at everything that moves .....?  laughing

But you did say most CLs exclude dogs, in your post you said:

Most exclude them to avoid cattle worrying on CLs

That clearly says that most CLs exclude them, which is not true.

And sanitised as per the Covid 19 Rules?

A single gram of dog waste can contain 23 million fecal coliform bacteria, which are known to cause cramps, diarrhea, intestinal illness, and serious kidney disorders in humans.🥶

"How about instead, you comment on something relevant to the thread?"

    OK, then.

I do enjoy seeing the numerous well behaved dogs on site with their owners. There’s nothing more likely to cheer a dull day than a happy loving owner/dog relationship. It’s amazing how many dogs go loopy when they see the LV because they know they're going to have a great time exploring different places.

    Me too.

Also I like that on real sites in real life that is there are hardly are problems. People go about their holidays quite happily mixing with dog owners and non dog owners alike.

It is a wonder then how human beings has survived the 300,000 years we've been on this planet having to deal with all the animal waste that has been around during that time.

I'm sure your right about those awful symptoms but I believe (I'm not a biologist) that they only happen if you come into contact or close proximity with it and somehow get it into into your body

I don't know about you I do not go looking for the stuff, and if by chance I do touch some I know I have to wash my hands.
