Leaf blowing
We are staying on a beautiful site in Yorkshire, surrounded by beautiful scenery, hills and trees......we have had the wardens leaf blowing incessantly and I mean incessantly a constant never ending drone....we totally understand the need for health and safety in this day and age but surely there has to be some responsibility by the staying public who to be honest are amongst other things walking through fields and up stony hills.....we are in such a beautiful place surrounded by beautiful views and to be honest it has been ruined somewhat by the leaf blower....it really has not stopped at all and as fast as they are getting blown more are falling fastly from the trees. It is a never ending ridiculous task. At least wait until maybe the trees have felled the majority of their leaves then have a tidy up or at least have a days break In between. It has not even rained this week it has been a glorious autumn break with dawn to dusk sunlight and A LEAF BLOWER. I wish I could record it for you all to share

It’s probably because it’s not rained that the wardens have been using the leaf blower. Wet leaves don’t blow but to need to be picked up.

This leaf blower obsession must be a caravan club thing , we regularly stay at Setthorns in the heart of the new Forrest in the autumn and they never bother to blow or clear any leafs , they let nature take its course, nobody slips of falls over and you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the place

That is our argument Husky, people who come here are here to enjoy the area and with that comes trees, thousands of them, I get that when leaves are wet they are dangerous but just clear around maybe toilet block etc let the rest work with nature.

Possibly Easy but no grass here TBH, it’s the least grassy site to be on, all gravel and minimal small usual bit between some pitches but not enough to sit on like some sites just to give a bit of green between pitches I suspect and also for less upkeep during the more inclement Yorkshire weather.

I don't see the point in blowing them from one place to another. Either pick them up or leave them where they fall. Blowing is a waste of time, money and effort.

In our opinion leaf blowers are one of the most useless pieces of equipment there is and as Jill says why not just rake/brush them and then pick them up?
We have even had the local council using them in our very narrow, no pavements, streets to achieve absolutely nothing except moving the leaves from one place to another and covering everything and everyone with a layer of dust..

Isn’t the idea to blow them into one place where it’s then easier to pick them up? That’s what we do at home.

Leaf blowers vie with lawn mowers in our top five dislikes of Club Sites, so we fully concur SM1. It’s either one or the other depending on the time of year. We call it “boys with toys” time, as never seen a female Warden doing either. I recall enduring a long holiday at Threeways one year where we kept a record of the number of times we were mown around at breakfast, which was almost every day. Thinking we would get a peaceful Autumn break somewhere same year, we booked Whitehouse Beach, only about half a dozen on Site when we were there.................all gritting our teeth as it was shrub and tree trimming time. Chainsaw and shredder going all day long. Part of why we switched to more CLs.
Fully understand need to keep roads, paths and pitches safe from slippy leaves, but Club needs to do a bit more research and investment, you can get quieter sweepers nowadays, I know because I’ve used one!

If that was the case, and I am not talking about withing peoples gardens etc, it might just justify the noise, dust etc but that is not how I have seen them being used.
We have even seen the ridiculous, but funny, sight of the leaves being blown to the side of a footpath and, as the guy walked along, them being blown back by the wind to where they were.

I agree Jill. We have bought a leaf blower at home because it's hard work clearing lawns etc (we have a lot of trees) our leaf blower also sucks up the dry leaves too. Blowing leaves and not bagging them up defeats the object, ours get bagged into compost bags or spread onto borders (even then they sometimes blow away again.)
I've no idea what the policy for leaf blowing is on sites except to clear lawns and makes paths safer but continuous leaf blowing is just noisy and time wasting.

I do not think it was the wardens doing the chainsaw shredding ,and as there are more site that close at this time of year, and are normally as where we are very quiet ,then it's when leaf clearing ,tree cutting and the last cut is carried out as has been going on herewith both ride on mowers at work and both couples sharing their time on the "toys"

I was doing my Cinnamon Trust dog walk yesterday morning around our town park where there were two guys with leaf blowers. One was blowing them off the path onto a narrow strip of grass - the other was blowing them off the path on the other side onto the same strip of grass. At least I guess that was the intention. I'll leave it to your imagination to guess the result!

I know it wasn’t the Wardens doing the chainsawing, nevertheless, the noise was still awful. The site in question wasn’t open all year round so it could have been better timed, as others have pointed out.
I fully understand that both routine and planned maintenance has to be carried out. But both at times can be very disturbing. I also don’t doubt that both female and males are fully capable of using chosen machinery....it’s just that we have only ever seen males riding the tractors, blowing the leaves. 😁

It wouldn't be so bad IF they did pick them up, from what we've seen they just walk around blowing them off the road back onto the grass so in dry weather as soon as a puff of wind or vehicle goes past the leaves bliw back again. Total waste of time.

At home we have 5 silver birch trees, plus many shrubs which shed leaves over a couple of months. The ones that fall on the borders I don't worry about, the ones on the grass I lift with the lawn mower on a high setting. Much quicker than raking, much lighter than the blower/sucker

I asked this very same question earlier in the year when Mrs Warden was blowing leaves during a storm however the usual dyed in the wool Club members all backed up Mrs Warden suggesting that perhaps as it was very early on in the season, she might be practicing 😂 and the thread was closed. Wardens blow leaves on the entrance to Chirk .... by the time they've finished it's time to start again.

That what has been happening here the mowers are picking up the leaves while the blowers are keeping the public paths and roads clear to stop them going into mush with vehicle movements, as when the seasonal site are closed every thing these days has to securely locked and all machinery taken awayfor serviceing and to locked secure storage , most seasonal sites are then secured and have a "winter caretaker"normally a local resident who is tasked with checking for problems and then contacting EGH ,until the site staff return about a week before the site opens to get everything back on site and get the contractors in to get water and electricity checked for safe usage

To be honest it was the 2 male wardens doing it, unless the females did it whilst we were not there and on the mention of dust we were commenting on how we were glad we were not over the road where a caravan awning was getting covered in dust When said caravan owner came out and pointed it out to the warden....he moved away after a short conversation but was back again next day, same place, same job...we did get out and about by the way that’s how long every day it was done, till the 5pm tractor run for rubbish

In the ‘old days’ when we were wardens pre 2010, we had two leaf rakes. Put the leaves in the trailer to tip with the grass cuttings. Very good for the waistline, and very peaceful. What could be lovelier in the blue sky autumn days than enjoying fresh air and exercise.

Generally I imagine that the Wardens are doing their best to make the site look presentable. From what I’ve seen they blow the leaves on to the grass. then ride over them with the ride on mower which is an effective and efficient way of clearing them up.

As the sound of leaf blowers can be heard on many sites, I presume HO has a hand in this, leaving wardens to balance HO requirements with customer expectations. It is a reflection of poor communication by the CMC which could easily explain why it is necessary rather than leave us to speculate.
The CMC seems to prefer to communicate what it wants us to know rather than about what we want to know.
There is a wider debate here about what we want from our sites - 'rural delight' or 'spic n span'.
