There is a new update to Archies Campings on line today. For those not familiar with it, this is a website with files of POI's for more than 33,000 campsites throughout Europe, which can be downloaded and installed on most types of SatNav. There is access to an App which can be used on smartphones, or tablets, and used when not on-line.

Archie has been doing a lot of work on UK sites, because users have complained that not all UK sites take tents, and that a lot of the sites listed (Club sites) were members only. As a result these sites will be a separate download from other UK sites.

Other updating work has gone ahead as usually, changing opening dates, phone numbers, etc.

Please share this post with any other forums where you think it provide useful information. As well as camping and caravanning, these could includ motorbike groups, hiking groups, etc.

I think one issue some of us have now is that vehicles, be they cars or motorhomes have built in satellite navigation systems and I have yet to discover how any third party POI's can be loaded onto these devices. Another point is that both my car and my motorhome have TomTom sat navs but both are different. Fortunately the one in the motorhome seems similar to my stand alone Start 60 so is not too bad on routes. It also has campsite POI's load but they are not as comprehensive as Archies. I wonder if Archie has any information on loading his POI's onto built in systems?

Hi ValDa , that's a surprise as I was looking at Archies yesterday and was sure it said the next update was in Jan 2020.

Like David have a car with built in sat nav but download the pois to Google Earth for my winter nights spent planning!

I have still got my Tom Tom in the glove box but it has not been used for at least three years now so maybe time to 'upcycle' it to someone without sat nav.

You may have been looking at the update just after it was published.  Archie tends to update the site every two months, so the next update after (01/11/2019) would be on lst January.  However, the updates go on line when he has time in his busy schedule to actually publish the new version of the website.

We too have a built-in SatNav but keep a Garmin in the glove compartment, as our 'built-in' is very very out of date.  It's a Ford and we reckon it was last updated about the year 2000!  The newish road where one of our sons works is not yet added to the Ford SatNav!

I think for those who have built-in SatNavs, it may be worth looking at downloading the App to a tablet, or mobile, as once downloaded updates are free of charge for life! (And these two monthly updates will be done automatically.)
