Spanish trip collapse
I'm afraid our long awaited trip to Spain will have to be cancelled, one of the dogs is on steroids and the vet says it will interfere with a rabies reading meaning we won't be allowed entry .
Such a shame as we thought everything was finally in place, the brexit saga hasn't helped either although we reckon things are already sorted but they won't announce things yet.
Ah well lost deposits for ferry and accomodation is nothing as we still have the dog.

Hard luck Andy. Hope insurance might take a bit of sting out of monetary loss, but I rather doubt it. We have never been tempted to take our dogs overseas, too much hassle for us. Our priorities are your priorities, but no doubt some will differ. Enjoy a trip over here, it’s a beautiful place👍

not saying your vet is wrong but would double check his info. We took our dog to spain March just gone and because it looked as though we would leave the eu on 29th Mar without a deal we conformed to the possibility of having to have a blood test on the dog to check that the level of rabies anti bodies was ok, we started this process in Decemeber 2018 as we knew it was a long process and as it was he failed first time passed second, however, my understanding is that if we leave with a deal then everything will remain as is regarding rabies and my understanding is that blood tests will not be required and checks made for level of anti bodies will not be made and pouch can travel on his/her normal pet passport, all this is on the proviso that the rabies jabs have been kept up to date with the required boosters. could be wrong but worth checking on the government web site.

also note that if your dog has alreay had a blood test and a check for rabies anti bodies and passed then you do not have to repeat the process, i think these tests are quite new in the UK, our pouch is 8 years old and never had a blood test.

Booked for January for 3 months in Spain, we have a meeting with the vet tomorrow, thanks for all the input.

"our pouch is 8 years old and never had a blood test."
Are the rules the same for kangaroos?

Well its been officially confirmed by the vets that the dog can't travel, in that case neither can we, it would be unfair to take 1 dog and leave behind another for 3 months as they are both very much a loving part of the family.
Instead we shall wait till June and do a big tour up one coast and down the other of Scotland, probably up the east of northumberland then round Scotland and down the cumbrian side through the lakes.
As we have cancelled the ferry it gives someone else a late opportunity they thought they'd missed.
