Should the Club put it's foot down?

It's good to know I can rely on you to come up with some facts and figures Corners.
"Off topic......Nevers, lovely to have you back occasionally. Hope you are keeping well😁"
I'm keeping well thanks TDA, hope you and yours are well also.

Even if it's as little time off as this, that's the equivalent of 4 days a week (two couple site) when only one couple is working, that's more than half a week, one could call that most or the majority of the week! I reckon it is even more than that.

But environmentally, burning gas is much worse than using green electricity - Extinction Rebellion will be coming to a campsite near you any day now.

will they glue themselves to the gas tanks?

We no longer use an awning but when we did have one many years ago we did heat it on one trip away.
OH was studying at the time and was using the porch awning as his 'office' one day it took him longer to go through a 'mock exam' than anticipated. This took him into the twilight hours and as such the temperature dropped. He didn't want to come inside and abandon it so I put the fan heater out there to take the chill off. Guilty as charged Gov.
When we tour in the UK its usually in the colder months so no awning used. In the good weather we adopt the attitude if its nice we site outside, when it gets chilly we go inside.
We have come across one site (an AS) that has notices in the office and around the site and facilities block that state ' NO heaters to be used in awnings' on walking back from the facilities one night we counted 3 awnings with heaters (the radiant type) these were on seasonal pitches. It was not winter, just a chilly evening. If an AS site with owners living on site can't 'police it' then a C&MC site generally bigger stands little to no chance.
We also saw once (on a club site) a lady drying her washing in the awning with a couple of fan heaters. We only noticed as she was standing at the door of the awning looking rather warm, we got into conversation, she told us she always does that rather than the use the tumbler as she would 'have to pay for that'

Last time we were at Tredegar it had become a one couple site, and it was very busy?
edit.....that’s a cracking predictive text at the end of your sentence😁

They're full (sometimes) because a large number of members can't be bother to look for better priced alternatives, and there are plenty out there.! It just takea a bit of research, which many people can't be bothered doing.
1 -
That is rather insulting.
You can't accept that a large numbers of members actually like them and think they offer excellent sites at good rates?

It’s a very easy option to book a Club Site and accept what is on offer, and a lot of folks do it because it gives them the standards, expectations and convenience they are looking for, and that’s a perfectly good reason to stay a member and go with what the Club offers.
But for others, Club Sites don’t offer the degree of choice that might be preferred all year round. I know we are finding it more difficult to find a Club Site we like that isn’t too far away, between November and March. Hence we explore other options and have found some very nice ones that meet our Winter preferences.

Update for you on Tredeger and some other small sites (under 100 pitches)
The wardens at these sites where in the past had two couples although it was only at weekends there were two couples, can now have a week off every 21days, it is normally their choice to be single couple with consultation with the area manager

Thanks for update JVB, good to hear staffing models give staff some preferences.

And with a known good quality of sites, it is a very good reason to use club sites over the unknowns of a lot of "private"sites it a shame that there are not more open in the Winter period although more if viable are open for longer into the next year

There might be some truth in that regarding some members. Certainly not the whole reason though.
When I first started caravanning I used a lot of CLs for short breaks and some non club CLs. Also used Club sites but the sites were chosen for location. At that time I found some of the private sites well below par compared to club sites. These days most privately run sites have upped their game. Even so, for me and the things that I want CC sites do provide what I want and other options are generally second choice.
My first consideration is location - is the site where I want to be. If there is a suited CC site then my choice is simple. My first consideration is not cost. That is secondary to me. For what I want from a site I personally do not see a significant (to me) savings on other commercial sites and in fact I consider some commercial sites overpriced for what they offer to us. Others might well love some of those sites and some seem very popular.
We have a 15 night December chillout break to Southport area every year. For us, having used other sites a while back to visit theatre or Flower Show at other times of the year, the CC site is the dearest for us in that area but is by far the best located for what we want and is therefore worth the extra.
For this member it is not so much that I can't be bothered to look for cheaper sites but rather that it is very much a secondary consideration.
If I ws less well off or perhaps toured for more than 4 months of the year cost might be more of a consideration and of course there are cheaper (and dearer) sites available

We have never found any of the small private sites we have researched a disappointment luckily, and go back to some quite frequently. They are are proving a good alternative in Winter when we choose hardstandings more and other comforts.
Just considering one of your favourites for next month possibly for a few nights....Ferry Meadows. A good price, comes in at under £19 per night with mid week discount. Would like to link it to another, but Stamford site closes on 4th November😡
Edit, sorry ET, I was answering JVs post. 😊

I must admit that I can recognise myself there, up till about 3-5 years back!
Club sites do offer what we like, are easy to book, no deposits, easy to alter or cancel if necessary.....an important consideration at our age.
However, in the last few years site prices have been rising at a rate much faster than my pension, and peak and shoulder periods have been extended, so we have become much more cost conscious and started looking at other options much more. It was either that or go away less.
We are now using more CLs and CCC sites than CAMC sites, and not planning or booking so far ahead.
