Get club's European Holiday brochure. There may be a few ideas.

Pick area you want to go to and google by putting in campsites.

Its a start for you. See how you get on.

Bayeux, Camping de la bord d’lAure, some 5 miles inland from Arromanche, is fairly central to all the D Day beaches and is walking distance to the Bayeux tapestry although, IIRC, it will be on loan to the UK next year. Out of season you can also get ASCI discount.

Yes, I personally would follow CY's suggestion - because I like that situation in the town with shops and restaurants at hand .

Others will want a big commercial site on the beachfront, with indoor as well as an outdoor pool and an on site bar/ restaurant too. But others who prefer CLs  at home will make for an unpretentious small campsite in an orchard. All of those can be found - it depends what floats your boat.

Travel can be inward to Cherbourg and homeward from Caen to see all the main beaches, but do look inland as well. Timing matters too as the caravan season in Normandy tends to start later and finish earlier than it does here at home.

    Happy planning!

Rather than the holiday brochure, I'd go for the Caravanning in Europe book (France obviously). Yes you have to pay for it but it includes many more sites than the brochure and they have reviews by real caravanners.

    I'd agree with this.

Also, if you are going out of the high season see if the ACSI Camping Card book is available in December. There should be details of a number of sites which may be of interest.

As eurotraveller implies, recommending sites can be difficult because what one person may consider suitable another may not like.

If you look at the two books mentioned you should be able to choose sites suitable for you. I would also recommend a large scale road atlas of France or, at the very least, a map of Normandy. You will then be able to see where possible campsites are in relation to the places you wish to visit.

We visited Normanday a few years ago with the caravan and stayed at Camping la Cormoran which was excellent. The site was a 40 mins drive from Cherbourg making it very easy for the ferry also the site is right across the road from the beach and within easy reach of the D-day museums ect and handy for all the beaches. The site itself was great lots of things to do a bar, take away, and swimming pool and the pitches were huge.

    Hope this helps

Good post Francis - everyone who goes there is impressed.  It's a campsite with a covered swimming  pool, whirlpool, sauna, gym, tennis, entertainment, bar, games room, playing field, archery, hairdresser, masseuse, bike hire, car hire, communal barbecue ...and lots more. It comes as a delightful surprise to those who have only known the barren sterility of Club sites at home.

campingfrance.com is a good site for looking for different types of campsites.

Quite a few years ago we used this site http://www.sous-les-etoiles.camp/index.html but it was run by another couple who have apparently retired! Really up to date then! But it was good.
